Pixel 6 Pro, 3 Years Later: The first REAL Google phone, revisited!

- What was the first proper Google phone? Was it the T-Mobile G1, the very first Android phone? Or the Nexus One, the first with Google in the name? Or the original Pixel back in 2016?
I don't think it was any of these. Instead, it's this guy, the Pixel 6 Pro. So as it approaches its third birthday and final Android OS update, let’s take a look at how it’s fared…

Watching this on my 6 Pro. Still a great phone (much better than it was at launch, with all the bug fixes along the way). And still the prettiest implementation of the camera bar.
Can you record 4k 60fps from front now ?
@@Gaming60fpsno
Looks like my note 8 which I was a fan of
Thanks to your video I realised that my phone is 3 years old... I got my 6Pro a few days afterr they came out in the UK and its been my only phone since, Still going strong and working great.
Got mine on launch typing on it now.
@@dougsmith6357Did you change the battery or are you still using the same one?
@@IncelBoyidk if they’ve changed their batteries but mine are doing so much better since A14 I have pixel 6 & 7pro
Mine is also still going strong. Think I will be upgrading this year though.
Same. I will be upgrading to the 9 pro xl.
I’m still using my Pixel 6 Pro! It’s been amazing, big screen , great connection and durable. It’s been 3 years and works like it did on day 1 I love it.
They have good trade in deals so I'm upgrading mine
Rocking my 6a from the very first release date and gotta say this is by far the smoothest Android experience ever 💪🏻
Watching this on my Pixel 6. I never had any major issues with it and I still love it.
Just for precautions, avoid factory resetting your pixel 6 series devices to avoid bricking your phone. Google has already acknowledged this issue and is apparently doing some work to solve this
Just bought mine, in perfect condition from eBay at the beginning of August 2024, refurbed, unlocked for £209 factory reset... All good. What I did notice was that the battery charged like a whippet out of the gate, but not after I had set it up? I had been on a Sony Xperia z2 since they came out... Well it's like going from horse and cart to a Ferrari 😊😂
Charged it Saturday 13:45, it's now Tuesday 9:11 am and it is saying it will need charging again at 15:00...
I'm really pleased with it, I just hope it's as waterproof as they make out!
@@MrIanspeed glad you're enjoying your pixel 6. Just a precaution, if anything, don't trust or even disregard the water resistant rating of devices if it is a refurbished device. As it is likely that the seal is not that water resistant anymore. I am also using pixel 6 and aside from heating issues caused by the inefficient modem, I have no regrets.
@@jpara_dise I know, but to be fair, doesn't look like the case has ever been separated on it, just making sure I backup every day to my NAS drive, as the only real drawback is no external memory in case of it being bricked through either water or updates.
I purchased the Pixel 6 pro at launch and enjoyed it for the most part. My frustration started when the updates started making the phone behave differently. It's like every update made the phone mess up.
Cell reception was subpar and so was battery life. Mine recently started to not register finger movement on the screen and the battery started draining rapidly with the phone heating up. Overall, the Pixel exclusives were nice.
I recently retired it and moved on to the OnePlus 12.
It was exactly the same... Owning P6 was like a beta test. And a horrible one.
And how's your experience with the OP12? I've got a Pixel 6 Pro and I'm thinking of replacing it for the 12.
The Pixel 3A has been my absolute favorite.
Right. Can't believe this pixel 3a i got aside from the battery is smooth af
I own the Pixel 6 and there's just one thing that genuinely lets this phone down in 2024 - the fingerprint sensor is still really inconsistent. Other than this, it's still holding up really well. I'm gonna make it go till the Pixel 10.
P6 Pro is great, but Google destroyed the camera as of late. Any picture that's not taken in perfect light condition it gets aggressively darken by the post-processing software no matter what version of the camera app you have installed.
And the zoom lens tends to over expose 🥴
My 6pro after 2years still rocks 😍
The Google Nexus was first real Google phone. Not tied down to carriers and unlocked bootloader made it a pure Android in its origin. After my Nexus S I switched to Apple because I was tired of jumping through hoops to get back to why I loved Android.
Still rocking this bad boy since release day , and so far works fantastically for me. Tink im still going to try and use it for another year or 2
Honestly... I got the 6 pro earlier thisbyear... If not for its rocky and glitchy launch I would not have gotten it for as cheap ast it had.... Its actually the best value for phones its generation.
The 6 Pro is the Tensor model I see the most of in the wild
I enjoyed using my Pixel 6 Pro. Now on to the 8 Pro, I think I'll be leaving the hype train and sticking with this one for a while. The 8 Pro is excellent!
The Pixel 2 and the 6 Pro are the best designed Pixels in Google's lineup.
im still using a pixel 6 as a daily driver and i love it and im not planning on replacing it any time soon, also i know the magical skill of modding and i will update it with some kind of port from the pixel 7/8 when support ends, i really love it
What's the battery life like?
@@houseyy3013 it gets me through a normal day without problems
I like the 6 pro battery life was better than the 7 pro. Now I use the fold watch is great cause pocket friendly battery life is good
In my opinion if google really cared about the environment, they'd give the 6 series & 7 series 7 years of updates (including the A models too)
I love the pixel 6 and i still have one as a backup phone with the 15 beta, ill probably install a rom when it loses support
I have a question...if i may. Does installing custom os have any impeding impact on payment apps or have issues with security on banking apps?...
I still use mine. it has gotten better over time
Was a big fan of the Pixel 6 Pro's design language.
For me pixel 4a was and still is one of the best pixel I have had because it had headphone jack and good battery life compare to pixel 6. I'm using pixel 6, and every now and then I get overheat warning issues.
I had a Pixel 6 Pro. Bought it around launch time, and stuck with it through its teething pains. It became a pretty good phone after a few months of updates. My only three complaints with it were a subpar battery life, not the best cell reception, and how warm it would get from time to time. I've just upgraded to a Pixel 8 Pro less than a week ago. The issues I had with my old 6 are no more.
I'm about to get a pixel6. Do you find recent camera updates worse than before? Someone has complained how camera got worse over time
still using it, AWESOME
Good retro review of past devices. Do more videos on such
When the pixel 6 pro dropped I got myself one and I was amazed by the camera set up. Now I have a pixel 8 pro and it's brilliant but one thing is bugging me with it, and that is best take. It doesn't seem to work when I take a picture.. other than that I really have nothing to complain about, pixel has always been a favourite of mine
I agree. The pixel 6 was the first all Google phone.
My pixel 5 is still as snappy as when I bought it. I'm glad I didn't encounter many bugs except for Android 12. I'm holding on to my Pixel 5 until I can get a phone with a rear or in power button fingerprint sensor. Until then, I'll keep swapping the battery in the Pixel 5.
I am about to get my pixel 6 pro soon. So exited about it.
You’ll love it, I’m glad you’re not listening to all
The hate cuz this phone is awesome!
You will love it 😃

@@houseyy3013 I wouldn't say it's the best, or the worst, but it's better than I've had before. It will do 4 days with 30% remaining, I don't have data on or WiFi most of the time. Mostly using this for my Locus maps OS app and phone calls, and a bit of Solitaire. Still a hyper quick phone! No regrets 👍
I coincidentally received one as a gift from my mother, its pretty great, and ill keep it for atleast another 2 or 3 years, then get the pixel 8 pro after that time.
Went from a 3a to 6pro and pre order the 9pro. I love this 6pro! Im excited for a smaller pro phone
Still got my 6 Pro, its been a decent phone but its knackered now, as others have mentioned it had probems early on but got better with time, hopefully i'll be getting the 9 Pro XL soon.
I use a Pixel 6A and I'm very happy with this phone. I feel like I can comfortably use it 3 more years from now. Early on I suffered from the call dropping issue but it seems to have become somewhat manageable in the recent updates.
I got the pixel 6 in February 22 and ive had it since. Never had any issues with it (apart from bugs on android 13 beta but its a beta that's expected) and its still going strong and i see no reason to upgrade yet
What's the battery life like?
@@houseyy3013 it's alright. I can get a full day out of it and don't really worry about it very often. Although I still don't trust it on mobile data it's a bit unpredictable so if I'm going to be disconnected from WiFi for a while I do take a powerbank. Although I don't often need to use it I just take it for peace of mind. But most of the time I'm on WiFi and it lasts me the day
Upgraded from a Pixel 3 to the Pixel 6 Pro, and I think I like the 3 more. There are 2 key features from the 3 that the 6 Pro doesn't have: dual front firing speakers and easy one-handed use. Yes, before you point out that I should've got the smaller 6, I really wanted a zoom lens. That's the sole reason I got the Pro.
What's the battery life like?
@@houseyy3013 pretty bad. It cannot last a full day on most days. Better than the 3, at least.
@@MrElliot1210 compared to the 3, how long does it last
@@houseyy3013 sorry, it's been a while since I used the 3 and I was in high school back then so I didn't use it as much. The 6 Pro would last a full day more often if the drain when it's idle was less.
@@MrElliot1210 okay.thank you.I'm thinking of upgrading from a 3XL
I may be in the minority but I got a Pixel 6 Pro at launch and have not had a single issue with it. I'm gunna stick with it until the Pixel 10.
Same!
How's the custom rom scene for the pixel line of phones? Genuinely curious as to how much community support the pixel line has once its been artifically EOL'ed by the manufacturer.. so many previous phones could have lived a longer life had it not been due to manufacturers limiting the useful life by lack of software support!
Idk how true this is from what I’ve been reading the pixel lineup is the easiest to download a custom ROM?!
Was looking around for something to replace my 4a with and found the 6 pro refurbished for like 240. After this video I think I might go for it, I didn't want to spend over 300 (maybe 400) hundred and all the new phones don't excite me that much
Awesome video. Well informed! Thank you!
I miss the old days .
Me too!!!!!!!!
Watching on Google Nexus 5❤️
6 pro still a beast 😈
What's the battery life like?
Please do another video after 2 years!!!!!
I Love these Look back review. Because I believe the real prices of these phones were afte 2-3 after their released dates. Planning to get 1 now. Buying new released phone for a person who's on a budget like is not wise. Thank you for this review. I really appreciate it.
As I used to say pixel 6 pro coming to end of era by next year sep 2025... Later will join for pixel x xl...
And I am from Nexus 6P, Pixel 2xl, pixel 6 Pro and by 2025 will get into pixel x pro....
My Pixel 6 had a bloated battery and made the display separate from the body. Seems like a common issue with this phone.
One of my favorite google phones was the nexus 6. That big Motorola device.
I have owned the first pixel xl, pixel 2, pixel 3 . And currently have the pixel 6 pro 512 gig. I will be getting the 9 pro xl next.
@XDA
I'm still using the #Pixel6Pro
I'm not a big fan of flat screens.
But who knows, I may just like the flat and square design of the new #Pixel9Pro Series.
Had the same 6pro. Really enjoyed it and now loving my 8pro👍🏾👍🏾
I am watching this video on pixel 6
I have owned two pixel 6 pro,in the last two years. They were great as I had upgraded from a pixel 4xl, but now with my current phone pixel 7 pro. I'm never looking back..
P.S. Nexus 5x was one of the best phones google ever made, too bad it had manufacturing hardware issues.
Where's Jaime?
Great video as always 😀 i have Pixel 6 pro and OnePlus 12, but i love my Pixel 6 pro more 👍
What's the battery life like?
On pixel6 pro? One day of battery life
Still rocking my pixel 6 Pro! Slowly dying now though
I'm about to get the pixel6. What issues do you mean by slowly dying?
@@gverebone the battery doesn't hold charge very well, dies within 6 hours :/
My 6pro kept over heating when i use my map with location. I upgraded to pixel 7pro overheating still exists. I have complet😮lost all trust on pixel i went to s22plus no issues there
My pixel 6 pro heats up like im holding upside down an Heat up Iron ready for freshly washed clothes😢😢😢
And 5g works like trash on Pixel devices ,
I have the pixel 6 pro and its good
i see pixel content i like
Watching on my Pixel 6. My usb c port has a loose connection and the phone sometimes gets very warm. Otherwise good phone. I think I will upgrade
When does it get warm? While charging or playing, or both? And did you try to clean the usb port?
Google needs to move on to their tensor or maybe use the snapdragon and add another chip for their npu and other ai stuff, this could then lighten the workload of the snapdragon chip and eill have a better performance than ever. Their tensor tends to hewtmup compared to competitors specially on gaming side.
I won one on an eBay bid £159 ,( didn't expect to win) phone is in immaculate condition, work's flawlessly. Not that impressed with the x 4 zoom lens , tends to over expose photos a tad . Must admit the zoom photos look natural and less processed than the main camera. No overheating or glitches.
I’ve had mine since launch, it’s been an amazing experience I absolutely love mine. ❤❤❤
Still the best looking pixel in my opinion
Watching this on my pixel 8 pro. Waiting for that pixel 9 pro fold which is the only flavor of device from Google I haven't used yet. There's a Google nest hub in the house. I have the original pixel the pixel 4 XL the pixel 4A XL the pixel 7 pro and of course the pixel 8. I would take a pixel over just about any other phone any day
My pixel 6 battery is swelling and display is popping out
I bought the Pixel Pro 6, 7 Pro, and 8 Pro, but I always seem to end up going back to Samsung. For me, the S24 Ultra is definitely the king.
But the notifications not come with screen off

Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying it. Should I buy it? Plz help
Hi I wanted to know when you update 500 firepapers
In Australia the main problem with pixel phones is everything under the sun that's an Android phone has more features and use than a Pixel unless your an enthusiast that is. As you'll need your rooting and magical skills to unlock Pixels features. So in other words it's just a run of the mill phone with nothing that any other android doesn't have.
Why my pixel 6 pro, did not support 5g?
Owning P6 was a nightmare for me.... Never again.
How so?
I got the 6a and love it 2 years later and it's still going strong but I'm getting the base model 8 on Wednesday. Maybe I'll get the pro but most likely just the base model.
The first proper Google phone was Nexus 6P
Will 6pro get Android 15
hello there !
Nexus One is the only answer
Nah pixel 6 pro zoo. Was better than s20 ultra zoom at the time

Nexus phones dude…. 1st amazing google phones was the nexus 4 and 5 personally nexus 4 was amazing
We are still in the COVID era.
lol
@@AjaxJP factually there's still a considerable amount of people succumbing to the virus still as well as becoming disabled from Long COVID. But lol.
It's over. It's actually called post-covid era. It's over, you can leave the "covid" label. They already got what they want, inflated prices for everything.
S22 ultra is better
