Spot on Brian, I have a 21 x4m comp and it's s great handling car feels a lot like driving my f90 m5. Not a surprise they are similar in suspension components
Brian - Love your review - very thorough, covering all the important factors with thoughtful commentary. Really appreciate your point of view. First view of your reviews. Will look at your other reviews. Hopefully there’s one on the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Please do one if you haven’t done so. The car is still very competitive even though it has been out since 2017. Thanks!
So bummed to find out (too late) that they don't have soft close doors. Before I had them I thought they were gimmicky fluff. Now that I have them, I absolutely love them. I hated the beige/alcantara interior when I saw it a couple years ago, now I love it. Hated the LCI X3M/X4M but it's growing on me. I'm evolving! Or adapting to BMW's strange new course.
I have one, and its amazing, you wanted to know the aero at 177mph , took mine there last week, well 170mph or 275kmh and its fine, not much wind noise. and very solid, Porsche 911 turbo s that I drove to 310kmh is really not much better, both have the wow factor.
@@BrianMakse it's a hell of alot of car for the money especially used. Drove my friends 911 t and loved it but it's over 300k, I'm not a multi millionaire to scoff that amount......so I waited ......and then drove a x3m and was sold for performance and practicality and room. It's only a slower than the 911, not a night and day difference at all, faster than the 911 4s for sure which I also drove and way more tech. Heads up display is a Must on any sports car, when I'm going over 200kmh I don't want to look down. See everything important with hud. Great vehicle and my 2020 at 65k is a friggin bargain for what you get and absolutely comparable to cars over 300k new.......
On what planet would any one prefer the pedestrian version of an engine, you mean all those forged components scare you? much more power in addition to the handling and braking disparity. Your wallet might prefer the b58 but not a single person who cares about performance and money isn't a factor would choose the s58 any day.
@@Tireburner7 This planet? Your comment is so judgy and short-sighted. Because the B58 produces more torque a good bit lower in the rev range and still produces incredible power. It will feel, and likely be quicker around town in most scenarios. It's anything but "pedestrian" LOL. Plus the car is actually comfortable enough to enjoy, better gas mileage, lower insurance and maintenance cost, etc. Sure if all you're doing is wringing it out on a track the M / S58 is phenomenal, but get real - nobody is doing that. For a car to actually drive every day without a jarring ride the M40i is a much better choice, hence why the vast majority of reviewers I've seen prefer the M40i as well. Money is no option for me, and I have a tuned M40i over the M.
@tronner10 seems that there's an issue with reading comprehension, nowhere where did I say it's the best engine "on the planet", I said on what planet, not judging, it's a saying. But yes you have to be seriously disabled to think that BMW's racing division would take a pedestrian engine used in every single 3 Series, 4,5,6 and 7, give it to the racing division only to make it worse? Yes, the s58 is a b-58 made better in everyday, hence 90% of the components were changed out or different. All facts, not a single thing I stated is an opinion. Next it seems like you bought a car with a b-58 because instead of talking about the virtues of the engine you then go and talk about a BMW m40. Using the same logic, why would anybody need a M40 when I can get a 30i with an M sport suspension, giving it the same thing and have a car that's just a tiny bit slower but that doesn't matter since nobody's taking it to the racetrack right? If you want to let the world know you couldn't scrap up do a real M, this is the quickest way how. The real reviewers? You mean Automotive English Majors who get to try a car once on a track? Nice story to make yourself feel better, haven't seen a single review from car and driver, Motor Trend Cara Automobile Magazine that stated they prefer an m40i. And in my comment, finances weren't taken into account because if they are then I'm not buying a b-58, I'm working on a sound business decision where I don't need to worry about $15,000 difference in a car and then spend my life in comments to justify why I bought the cheaper version. Since you're a little confused, let me recommend a better car for you that will handle even better than your m40i, a 30i with the same M lite suspension and 200lbs lighter engine over the front wheels, make your m40i feel sloppier than a m40 compared to a real M.
But you would watch review videos for them? I don't like Android phones. I don't watch review videos on them either. I don't like green beans. So I don't eat them. LOL
You sound salty that a suv that can fit a family pushes almost 1g on the skidpad, does a 0 to 60 in 3.2seconds Ndwould roast an evora to 60 and destroy it in the quarter mile. Every car has an intended function and for someone who has a family, needs one car, needs awd with some clearance, a great suspension and insane speed, there's not many that do it better.

I have one of these. Best car I've ever owned by far.
What a beauty.
12 litres?! Wow never would have thought.

BMW was due to nail one. This thing is not only the best looking SAV also mad fast.
I dig this thing. I'm torn between this and the M40i.
Your wallet might be torn between the 2 but if you care anything about performance, nothing to be torn about
Great video Brian thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just bought one in marina bay blue, love it!!
Congrats!

Thanks, Larry. Yes, they’re a QV episode here, no worries. Hope you enjoy.
This review was exquisite. Such depth and credible insight to the drive. Well done. Can u get isle green metallic ?
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. Haven’t looked at the latest colour choices, but likely.
Stunning colour!

If soft closing doors and interior color are you main preference points, this probably isn't the vehicle for you.
sweet color and I like the interior you were a bouncing on the road. reminded me of my 2001 M Roadster lol🐒pox returns

Got '18 m40i. Prefered the B58 over the S58. Such an underrated vehicle

Excellent review and very fair.
Glad you liked it!
Dope colour!
what can you do if you need a trailer hitch on an x3M (not an x3m40)
Install a hitch.
i wanted to know if you knew of one that would fit/work@@BrianMakse
@@robertdelvecchio7438 try your dealer or local hitch store
thanks for that advice - i consider it priceless 😈- i just thought you might know more than the "average bear" @@BrianMakse
@@robertdelvecchio7438 I do, but I can’t assume you live in my spots. Do you want an install in so cal, Detroit, or Toronto?
I guessed that 🎉xx
You are really getting thrown around.
I would never buy an Apple phone. Would never buy a BMW for that matter either.
Ur Missing out 😂.
That's right, Troy!

I like reviews but I rarely watch Apple or BMW or Mercedes reviews.
And I sort of like green beans
Celebrating 50 years of visceral, fun lightweight cars by releasing an overweight, ugly great barge......yeah sounds very 2020s.
They’re also celebrating with the M4 CSL which I happen to be driving at the moment.
