Amazing point. I mean think of it. Winter of 83, northern half of the Midwest. Vita carnis, Midwest (plus Canada). Mandela catalogue, Midwest. Gemini home entertainment, you guessed it, set in the Midwest. Greylocke, also Midwest. Midwest Angelica, that’s literally in the name. I’d cite more but the point’s been made and the only example I could think of that wasn’t set in the Midwest was the tangi virus in Louisiana. So yeah, never live in the American Midwest if you don’t want to die to unimaginable horrors in analogue format lol.
The dad in Jack Frost got to me as a kid too. I think it was the same thing that makes claymation creepy, just enough to make it look alive, but your brain knows it’s not supposed to be.
Its crazy this was made by Linkara, the writer of the Lightbringer webcomic, star and director of the Atop the Fourlth Wall movie (and series), along with the infamous running meme
You know what's crazier? That Linkara made this as an April Fool's joke. Dead serious, if you check the upload date of the original series, it was all on April 1st, and if you watch the end of the epilogue (the original upload), there's two words in large font: "APRIL FOOL'S"
@@samtinkle9076 I don't know what's worse... That fact that Linkara made this... Or that Winter of '83, a really well made analogy horror series (and quite possibly the best thing he's ever made), was made as an April Fools joke.
Thing is when he pulls himself off of his various soapboxes, Lewis has potential to be a really damn good horror writer. Look up his story compilation for king of worms as well as alot of the entity stuff. I mean the dude turned pokemon sprites (the entity being based off missingno and king of worms based off the pre silph scope ghost sprite) into eldritch gods. Granted he does have his character win through but it'd be kind of hard to run a show when, you know, the world has been wiped from existence.
God, I still remember that Jack Frost movie, for some reason the damn line "It's better to have a snow dad, than no dad" that the bully says near the end of the movie is just stuck in my head several years after I watched it when I first watched it
But in all seriousness I just so happened to get the first video on my recommendation a couple minutes after it came out early in the morning, and I was so hooked, i love this kind of slow burn horror, and especially when it doesn't take 10 years to finish, but especially since each part came out every hour ai kept refreshing the page every hr or so just to see the next part It reminded me so much of when he did the entity(Missingno) arc and seeikg the horror slowly creep in
Fine, then go away and let people enjoy the vid without your personal bias. Make a vid of your own about how bad it is, we'll see how many people care to watch.
i really love any horror that capitalizes on the unpredictability and sheer power of nature. forces we deal with all the time, but that we still don't truly understand and are ultimately at the mercy of... i guess that's why it's called "the supernatural"
I must say, your calm explanation of spooky stories is a breath of fresh air. It is also nice to find someone who doesn't just show long stretches of original videos or read every bit of text on the screen.
you wanna know the scary thing? I live in Minnesota, and i can safely say, some of the weather and blizzards we have up here are as terrifying, if not more, than the ones depicted in this analog horror series.
I remember when I realized this was fucking Linkara. A man I remember for the Lightbringer comics and being one of Dough Walker's props... and he made something that was actually incredibly enjoyable. If you see this by some chance Linkara, I'm sorry.
Jack Frost (horror) is the kind of film that's "So bad that its hilarious", Kinda film to watch with friends, with a pizza and soda/beers and just enjoy a really cheesy film.
Genuinely no other channel makes me drop everything and watch like this one does, your commentary and jokes are absolutely stand-out and I hope you have as fun making these as I do watching because holy hell

Minnesotan here, analog horror aside, wind *is* the killer during the winters here. If you plan on visiting, outside of pants, boots, a cap and gloves, make sure your socks are wool, you got wool long underwear, your jacket has a fleece or wool liner, and above all else, you have something to fill the gap between the collar of your jacket and your neck. The winds here always find a way through your layers, tuck your shirt in, wear a scarf or neck gater, ensure your socks go higher than your ankles, and make your trips outside as short as possible. No joke, a few years ago, the WIND CHILL shut down schools and folks called in to work due to how hellacious it got. We’re talking frostbite in under five minutes on exposed skin.
A lot of the choices here have got to be homages/inspired by Doctor Who episodes, yeah? “Who turned out the lights” = “can you help me with this”, etc.
my one question for this is. how was a town in Minnesota not ready for snow and got stuck inside?. like what? i guess if its a small enough town they wouldnt have their own snow plow. but like really? not even one snow plow for a place known to get snow?
I dont say this as an insult towards Winter of 83 because I enjoyed it. But, how painful to me that this person put more effort and energy into the characters and story of a Joke analog horror series than UrbanSpook did in the entirety of The Painter. The mayor in this series has more personality than the entire roster of The Painter. And this series was made as an april fools day joke while The Painter was to be taken seriously.
Few things are as frustrating as 4 Plus not noticing the obvious appearance of the skull in the snow, and instead focusing on if somebody's arm fell off somehow because the wind was too cold, then going on to somehow miss the "YOU WILL NEVER BE ALONE AGAIN" message that's covering the entire screen. My brother in christ they put everything right in front of your face, how did you miss that
the way just listening to the tape makes you so scared for carl when the fake steven millbanks... its honestly amazing how just the voice acting can get you that emotional. carl denby carried.
