- Earlier today, Stewart-Hass Racing announced that Josh Berry will drive the #4 next year, taking Kevin Harvick's place after he retires after the end of the 2023 season. Dale Jr had Josh on the show to talk about how things began to materialize for Josh to make this full-time NASCAR Cup series opportunity become a reality.

Dale Jr and Kyle Busch have given so many great drivers the opportunity to advance in their careers. They both have made it a better place.
You can tell by the look on Dale's face how excited is about this. He's believed for a long time Josh deserved to be in Cup. I imagine he, Kelley, Mike and L.W. are over the moon happy and proud of Josh, and a large variety of people (driver's, crew chief's, engineers, etc) have accomplished coming up through their company.
Definitely a bromance there.
Happy for Josh!!! He earned his ride the hard way. I'm going to be cheering for him throughout his career.

Jr has brought a lot of great drivers up. And they've all gone somewhere else, with no JR motorsports cup team.
When Rick Hendrick sells his stake in JR Motorsports, then thats when you can expect to see Dale Jr. enter the Cup Series.
I mean, Hendrick motorsports is basically JRM cup level. . .chase elliott graduated from JRM, Alex bowman is there because of Jr, William byron graduated from JRM. . .
Go back and look at some of the older episodes. JR explains why he hasn’t gone to cup, yet.
Jr and Kelly have repeated over the years how much of a shoestring budget they're on.
@@gogmotis9322 exactly. This sport is expensive. And the cost of a charter is hard to swallow when running a 4 car operation, and a lmsc operation. And sponsor money barely covers costs.
Proud for Josh. Wish he could have gotten a ride with Dale Jr and Chevrolet, but proud he is getting a chance to show his potential. I hope he has a lot of success at SHR.

There shouldn't be one person who is upset about this. Josh Berry's path and story are very rare, but the perfect example of the American dream and what happens if you stay true to your course, work your ass off, and refuse to sell out. That man was sweeping the floors in between dirt races a very few years ago. Josh has capitalized on every opportunity he's had since filing in for Michael Annett. I recall JR speaking on the difficulties of getting sponsors in the beginning. Now he's a full time cup driver and will pilot one of the best rides in the business. Stewart is off a little right now, but these boys will straighten it out. Congrats Josh 🎉🎉🎉 WE LOVE AND PRAY FOR YOU
My favorite Xfinity driver replaces my favorite cup driver. I'm really happy for Josh and I'm excited that I still get to root for the 4 car in the years to come. I think he made the right move and racing for Jr really helped.

I'm damn proud this is happening! When I first saw the podcast when JB was the Cars tour champ, I liked him then and especially hearing how he mentored guys who made it to Cup, I wanted to see this happen and it is a better case scenario with a top team!
Calling SHR a top team is definitely a stretch.
@@jaredchampagne2752 I don't think so, Harvick is 5th in points. They may not RIP off 8 wins a year like a few years ago but I'd definitely consider them as a top team.

Josh Berry has worked his butt off for this ride with Stewart/Haas Racing. Junior is an awesome guy and Xfinity car owner.

Rick Hendrick is actually responsible for Chase, Bill explicitly says so in the documentary. I'm sure Dale was on board, but given Rick's part ownership, it probably wouldn't have mattered if he weren't in that case.

And it speaks enormous amounts that getting into cup is not a good move, and a bad business decision, since JRM hasn’t joined cup...such a shame. Cup will die unless it stops being an ultra mega wealthy elitist hobby with no profit incentive.

Cup is a dying sport and just eats huge amounts of money, theres no profit in that business, the only chance you have in cup, is if you have successful empire businesses and can have 100’s of millions of dollars to burn on a hobby, you can have a cup team. JRM will never have enough money to get into cup, and Dale Jr. has acknowledged that getting into cup is the worst business decision possible . Its sad to say, but I’m just being a realist here.
You know how you make a small fortune in racing, you start with a really big fortune, Junior Johnson
I'm sure he is appreciative of Dale, but I would have been publicly thanking and praising Dale a bit more for giving him his first real break and promoting him as Dale did.
Dale Jr. Put Cason Hocevar in the 8 car next year. Sometime we are just one break away from getting what we want. I hope he does great in the 4 car, even if its a Ford.

I remember you when you were only about ten years old. We were racing at a go kart track in Virginia.
It was a pay track called Hot Shots at Smith Mountain Lake VA. We had just raced and you kicked my butt in that race. You weighed about 75 lbs soaking wet and I weighed more like 200 lbs...lol. You looked up at me and said....I'm gonna race NASCAR some day!!!!

While I am very happy for Josh I can't help but to wonder how frustrating it is to spend so much time grooming Driver's just to have them snagged away because another team never planned for the future.

net worth and liquidity are two completely different things.. also stuff like this is beneficial to JRM when up and coming drivers see drivers from their xfinity team getting contracts with the major teams they're more willing to sign onto JRM even if the contract isn't financially beneficial for the driver early on. on top of that any time Berry is talked about they'll always bring up his time at JRM so free advertising. there very little to gain in cup and a whole lot to lose for them.
I doubt Josh will make much of a splash in cup. Look at the statistics. Cole went back to Busch along with many others.

The fact that JRM still hasn’t entered cup, is just concrete proof that nascar is a dying sport. Its so sad. I wish competent leadership would take charge again and get people excited about the sport, but the lack of self awareness and tone deaf leadership is bringing the sport to the grave, sadly. All good things come to an end.
