After they beat my team in the 14’ final they never advanced out of the group stage. 2014 Final was very close. Either team coulda won it! Yes the goal by Gotze looked easy but it wasn’t easy to get that goal. Germany has my respect and they’ll always be a rival to my team Argentina!

At least the US fought hard. They only made it out of the knockout round of 16 once. They just cannot compete w the other Futbol countries. They fight and play their best but they just cannot get a win! The 2022 WC vs Netherlands was insane. Insane bc the US never showed up for that game. One of the US best games I ever saw them play while losing 1-0 was against Brazil in 94 WC.

Against Yugoslavia, individualities saved him. Against Iran he left many doubts, Mexico was knocked out and Croatia took advantage of the fact that Germany had a veteran group.

Been listening to the 'American Fiasco' podcast which talks about this World Cup from a USA perspective in detail. Gotta say that is extremely poor marking on the 2nd goal, for all the talk of the weird 3-6-1 formation the Yanks were playing individual errors always undo you at this level of play.
I came here from the American Fiasco podcast as well. I was thinking the same thing, like "wow, how do you get so far out of position to defend Klinsmann on that second goal?" I agree with you. It sounds like the weird 3-6-1 formation may have left the defender isolated in that moment, but he had to do better there.
i'm always torn about that podcast because i absolutely love it as someone who grew up watching that u.S. team faceplant at the 1998 world cup. but at the same time, was USA even that highly rated? The podcast makes it seem as though people legitimately thought this team could make a big run at the 98 world cup but they just don't seem like they matched up well with anyone. Granted that podcast revealed there was a lot of drama going on too
