Fun facts: Later USA invite Iran team for friendly match in USA. If not mistaken,the game ended draw there. But its a first time US nation invite Iran for a sports event in their country.

I was there that night. “The mother of all games”. Me, my brothers, our friends and 10s of thousands of passionate, emotional other Iranians. I predicted the 2-1 at the hotel, which was recorded by one of those handheld cameras. I knew, that Mahdavikia was going to score as he started to run with the ball. I immediately got up and shouted goal, goal, even though he still had quite a fair bit to run. Everybody shouted at me to shut up and sit back down, but I would continue shouting Gooooal. It must have inspired or triggered everyone around me too, as they all also got up, shouting goal, before Mahdavikia had scored… And then, then he did score!!!! The stadium erupted. There were far more Iranian fans there than Americans. Easily twice as much. After the match we went to town to celebrate. The city was bursting with Iranians, eating, drinking, singing, chanting and dancing. It was an unforgettable night. That night we didn’t feel like having won a match, it seemed like we had won the entire World Cup out right. What a night!! 🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷
