Gaha Sattasai (Prakrit) / Gatha Saptashati (Sanskrit) was written by King Hala. Hence it was known as Hala's Gatha Saptashati. There is an interesting story about him (& his queen). His queen was a princess from Sri Lanka & can speak Samskrt fluently. Once while they were playing "jala kreeda" in the palace pond (swimming pool), he began splashing water on her. She held her palms against the splash & said "Rajan ! Ma`odakam taadayat", which means "King ! don't splash water that beats me". King Hala who doesn't know Samskrtam, thought she is asking for Modakam (Modak, that is offered to Ganesha) as she was pregnant. He got modak s made, took to her & asked her to eat. She laughed at the King Hala's ignorance of Samskrt & explained it (ma udakam = not with water). Hala was embarrassed and began learning Samskrt. Gatha Saptashati's translations in Telugu are available.

What a fascinating style of narration you have Sir. I have one question, Sir. Gaha Sattasai was written by 17th Satvahana King Hala almost around 1st Century AD whereas Vatsyayana belonged to 3rd-4th Century CE hence Kamasutra was written later than Gaha Sattasai. How come Gaha Sattasai make a criticism of Kamasutra when it was written earlier also would it be fair to make a comparison of both when these two were written in a completely different time and space. I'll patiently wait for your response Sir. Thank you.
Thank you for watching the video, thinking it through and asking a very interesting question. Gaha Sattasai has been compiled over time and it spread from one region to another, over time, moment/culture specific situations were addressed in form of short poems and were added to the compilation. Thatswhy a time frame of its compilation has been allotted to it as mentioned in the video. This gives rise to a commentary on relevance of Kamasutra which finds its place in the early poems of Gaha Sattasai. The fluidity of its movement through time and consequent evolution allows space for speculation. In its own way, Kama Sutra, is supposed to have undergone consistent effort over centuries before reaching its datable form. Also, your observation is brilliant, because, Charles Wilkins while translating Bhagvat Gita with the help of Kashinath Bhattacharya, had observed that it was composed before Atharva Veda, since it mentions all other Vedas except Atharva Veda.
