That's for the faint in the bootstrap art, i made one out of a copper wire and showerhead resistance, i used a brass tv antenna as the support and coiled the resistance around the copper, glorious 120w 19v psu, it heats FAST.

3:29 - I've never understood why people mark things to be cut or drilled if they're not measuring them. It's not as if they're marking a specific place that needs to be cut/drilled, they're just marking a spot by eye. Why not just position the saw or drill by eye?

I only have cheap soldering irons, but they have plated tips and every one of them quickly develops a notch in the side of the tip, usually right in the one spot that gets hot enough to actually melt solder.
Don't use this method, this soldering iron is almost disposable, use hair dryer resistance instead, get a multimeter and learn how to use and calibrate it then measure the current while turned on just for test first, connect it very well at one end and go reducing the length until the psu poops or you get your wanted power level, when you find it remember to leave a little bit more length before cutting.

10 watts doesn't do jack shit, get at least a 12v psu with 2 amps and a round 12v jack and you're way better than dealing with the 5v shit and connectors, plus you can connect it very easily to car lighter or battery, usb suuuuck for power.
Dude, don't lie it's obvious that there's more than 10w there, you either bought the negotiator chip to higher voltage or you are simply powering the stuff in 9v, no way in hell this is 5v 2a, i made mine with the resistor inside a copper tube going straight into the tip it's efficient as heck and if i limit it to 10w it barely heats the solder let alone solder anything on a board. Should have abandoned the usbc stuff and gone trough direct barrel jack as there's tons of unused network equipment with 12v 2a 24w or even more sometimes, and with the barrel jack it's easier to connect to a car battery or 3 to 4 series liion.
Yeah, you make a tool to make a better tool, bootstrapping is an art. Could have simply used a piece of copper wire and a gas stove to solder the soldering iron.
That's totally up to you, the less resistance the more conductance and the more power it takes, it really depends on your project, see ohm's law or search for resistance calculator.
