If you are religious one thing that keeps me going is a quote from St. Alphonsus de Liguori's "uniformity with God's will", something along the lines of peace is always attainable when we ourselves desire what God does and stay cognisant of the fact that all is how he wills it. There was an account of two martyrs being burned and torn by rakes whilr joyfully screaming "blessed be thy name and thy will which is being done unto us". I just thought wow, what do I have to complain about, even in the darkest times you can be at peace when you want what God wants and are aware that whatever is happening to you is happening for a reason, our own spiritual betterment and in some cases to be a role model for others, as the two martyrs all those many years ago. Anyways, great video, thanks!

The ones that resonate with me the most: cutting off negative people; the discipline of staying focused; exposing yourself to new experiences, books, learning, art; role models (my late father is a big one for me); short and long-term goals, doing your ancestors proud. Wonderful video, sir. Thank you!

Inspiring others and giving your listeners on RUclips and especially your Urban Gentry fans worldwide, very good tips on how to stay motivated and staying positive always. Can't believe that I am listening to your recording 5 years later which is especially very relevant in such difficult times (during the worldwide pandemic). Gov'nor, it's a shame you have the huge medical bills as an "English man in New York" in the UK you would have nought! This only make me appreciate the NHS which is the envy of the western world, but this is only temporary as we are steady heading towards medical bills as the NHS is cash strapped. Hello TGV, I've followed your watch videos for over a year now, but have only recently delved into your archive of non-horological stuff. I've found these videos very inspiring,, particularly this one. I will now take a closer look at Terry-Thomas, thanks to you. He sounds like he has a story to tell. In return, may I recommend a biography of the late great James Robertson Justice - What's The Bleeding Time. Danny Baker, a South Londoner and auto-didact like yourself, heralded this book, and rightly so. Thank you for nudging me towards Bulova. I now own the Hack and the new smaller Lunar Pilot (white and blue), 2 cracking timepieces. Maybe the Accutron in the future? I have only admiration for what and how you do what you do ,TGV. One day I'll own an Oris Pointer Date. That's been my grail watch for a while. Health and happiness. Mark. A West Londoner living in Berlin and devotee of Siouxsie and the Banshees since 1978..

Great to hear you put into words your thoughts on ancestral 'connection'. Something, I imagine, many people also think about, but are perhaps wary of saying in today's fast moving and persistently youth focused culture which can fixate on innovation - often to the detriment of refinement. Like you, I regularly find myself reflecting on, and taking great strength from, my personal heritage, recent and distant.

'For millions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your mum and dads side successfully looked after and passed onto you life, what are the chances of that? It comes to me one and a while, and every time I tell folk it gets the best smile.'

Tristano - Very inspiring video. I'm impressed with what you have learned in your young life-time. Some of what I have aspired to for 50 years. I only hope to be around another 30 years to see the man you are yet to become. This video reminds me of a favorite Socrates quote "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think". My Best Regards, John

Thank you John. Very kind words indeed. I am reminded EXACTLY who and why I make videos when I read comments like this.
      EXCELLENT quote, gotta love Socrates.

Love your show. It has given me a lot of direction after my home was burglarized and my Omega Speedmaster and Seamaster were stolen. BUT... you need some serious help on your coffee game. Perhaps we can swap advice.. Step 1- Invest in a grinder and grind fresh.. It makes a huge difference.. Step 2- Ditch the vanilla "creamer"... The Moka Pot is class though... you nailed that!

You kindly and maybe deliberately missed to mention that hate for an enemy , maybe a business competitor that you might have a history, that polarizing energy is a great source of energy and strength. Our culture ostracizes the sheer energy that comes from crashing our villains , like rivalry is only part of the arts nowadays , which is far from the truth . Love your channel and what you do. One of the few channels I would sit and listen to/ watch the entire 30 minutes video ,without even graphics or animations aiding your topics. How a gentleman should treat his enemies? How to remove the effeminate notion that accompanies modern gentlemen? From Greece , dearly.

    Hi TGV,
This is one of your best videos my friend, please do more videos like this one in the near future. It really helps people to think and do positive things in their lives. Negativity is very dangerous and it leads often to depression.
    Best wishes and stay healthy,
    Darko
