On your 18' traditional trout boat, how's the weight of aluminum compared to the fiberglass boats so common on the river? I have a Stealthcraft Hooligan Inflatable we use for skinny water. But my fishing friend is shopping for a rigid hull boat in the 16' to 18' range for fly fishing two people in 4,000 - 12,000 CFS flows, and a 9.9 - 20 hp 4 stroke outboard. Light weight is a key element so she can tow with her 4 cylinder Subaru Outback without trailer breaking
The 18ft power drifters base hull weight is 550lbs. Later this year we will begin building our traditional trout boats in the 16 and 18 ft range. Our XJ 5021 traditional trout boat weighs 700lbs. It is larger than its fiberglass counterpart and depending on the brand it can weigh slightly more.
