    There's a story from WW2 where a ship only had lemon jello and the crew were freaking out and wanted a different flavor so the cooks just added some food coloring and everyone thought it was cherry.

    I recall that my stepfather, from New York introduced my small backwards town to gummy worms. Everybody thought I was trying to trick them into eating rubber fishing lure. I even had to eat one for them before they'd try them.

    When I was three or four years old, a friend of mine introduced me to gummi bears. This was either 1979, or 1980. My friend was half German, and probably got them straight from Germany, since you said they didn't come to the United States until 1981. That never occured to me.

      It depends where you have your gummibears from
      The German Haribo Gummibears have since 2007 6 flavours/colours (before there were just 5 flavours and the green gummibear was strawberry flavoured. That is how it is still with the us haribo gummibears)
      Dark Red: Raspberry
      Light Red: Strawberry
      Green: Apple
      White/colourless: Pineapple
      Orange: Orange
      Yellow: Lemon

    Um, actually ... Since 2007, there are six flavors in a bag of Goldbären (at least in Germany) with apple flavor taking over green and strawberry now being a light red.

    • @SECONDQUEST
      @SECONDQUEST 2 года назад

      Um actually... Way fulfill every stereotype of the annoying person correcting someone lmao. You can say the same thing without "um actually." It'll look less "know-it-all"

    • @Jinx313
      @Jinx313 2 года назад +4

      @@SECONDQUEST I could have, but there are two rules; all of the corrections must be preceded by the phrase “Um, Actually...” and you can interrupt the statement at any time. If you don’t precede the correction with “Um, Actually...”, you lose the point and someone else can buzz in to steal the point. ;-)

    Using gummy bears for teaching German is not just about culture, but language since the German name, Gummibärchen, contains two aspects of German foreign to English: the ä and the diminuitive suffix "-chen"

    I love gummy bears! My preferred brand for a while was Black Forest, but my work doesn't carry them anymore, except for the organic ones, which taste nasty to me. I'll eat the Haribo ones, but they're a little waxy for my tastes.
    I also had a coworker tell me you could soak gummy bears in vodka and then eat them, though I don't know why you would.

    • @delusionnnnn

      You soak them in vodka then eat them because it gets you drunk while tasting delightful. Just don't eat them too early.

  • @delusionnnnn
    @delusionnnnn 2 года назад +1

    Soak gummi bears in liquor for a week and refrigerate, they're fantastic. They grow about 2x height (4x volume). Don't do it at room temperature or they get gelatinous and sloppy. Serve next to toothpicks. Vanilla vodka is the biggest crowd pleaser, so if you're only doing one batch, use that. Use enough liquid to cover and add more if they start poking out. But try other liquors, too. Jager or sambuca (bonus points for black sambuca) is good if you like black liquorice. Gin and tequila are probably a bit much for most people. Chartreuse is good. Orange liquors are good choices. They actually soak up a lot of alcohol, so don't think you're going to eat 10 of them like candy.

Brachs used to be king for me, but it's been awhile so it wouldn't surprise me if they changed the recipe for the worse since last I had them... probably to make them vegan or something, like how Thin Mints and McDonald's french fries got ruined.
