Good guide, but I wished Citra natively supports 2 monitors. It seems like an obvious thing to support for DS and 3DS emulation.
When you have the "Citra Window" open, go to the top left and click ("View" -> "Screen Layout" -> "Separate Windows"). Than just drag the "Second Citra window" (The Touch Screen) onto the "Second Monitor" that you are you using. In my case I was casting an "Extended View" onto my phone, through "SpaceDesk". I found this to be a lot easier and more reliable than messing with the "Configuration Code" and using "Borderless Gaming".

This works but I cant seem to go Fullscreen on my second device. I have my taskbar hidden but I cant seem to get the top bar to go away. Did you find a way to fix this?
@@NoThoughtAllFeels Click your Mouse onto the Second screen (Your touch screen device) and hit F11.
An even easier way to play 3DS Roms on Citra though, is to just go to ("View" -> "Screen Layout" -> "Side by Side" or "Separate Windows") and use your Mouse to play on the 3DS Touch Screen window.
@@JMan5886 Yea I had tried doing that but it didn’t work. Did some more testing and I was actually able to do it by making the 2nd monitor tab fullscreen on my main monitor, then going out of fullscreen, dragging it to my 2nd monitor then going fullscreen (fn + f11) on that.
Works perfectly there. Didn’t have to mess with the View settings other than splitting both screens into separate tabs. I definitely didn’t want to mess with any of the folder files and download another program. Thanks for the help!

@@AlejandroGtrrz i assume it would work i just used a generic Pad i had and my PC and it worked just fine after I fiddled enough with the settings and my monitor i finally got the bottom screen to work properly on my 2nd monitor also so didnt need to use the pad anymore.

You're welcome. I actually didn't come up with anything new (other than using spacedesk), I simply repurposed information from confusing written tutorials into an easy to understand guide.
As for NDS emulation, I have never even used them, so I wouldn't be able to tell you
Technically, it should work like a charm with melonDS, idk about other emus
@@inventionscreator8875 I tried with melonDS, but you can't do it because you can't set a separate specific custom resolution for the top screen and bottom screen.
this is a great video, but i think that top screen settings in citra are slightly incorrect
3ds top screen ratio is 5:3 while modern monitors' is 16:9 so using the entire monitor stretches out the image. in case of 1920x1080 monitor, top_top has to be set to 60 and top_right to 1860 (which is 1920 minus 60) to restore original screen ratio.
the math is 1080/240 = 4.5 (ratio of monitor height to 3ds height) and 4.5 x 400 is 1800 (400 is 3ds width) and 1920 - 1800 is 120 pixels exactly, so 60 pixels on both sides. this can be repeated for any resolution, for 4k it needs to be 120 pixels on each side so 120 and 3720 for top_top and top_right respectively
That is true, but 15:9 (5:3) is nearly identical to 16:9, so I would rather simply stretch the screen a little bit to fill it completely.
AeliusDawn Works like a charm!! I have Citra running 4K on my 80 inch living room TV and the bottom screen is running 1920x1080 on my HP 21 Slate Android Tablet. Any chance you can make a tutorial to use a tablet as the WiiU's video controller? Very nice work by the way!!!
Nice! I also use my TV to play. And as for the Wii U.. Believe me I tried but I wasnt able to figure it out yet.
I tried this tutorial and it worked but can't revert back to normal view on pc. Only the single screen is showing now. I can swap the screens by pressing F9 but the double screen feature is not working anymore. Ruined my citra shouldn't have done this. Is there anyway to fix this problem plz.
Thanks- this works great for everything EXCEPT it seems like Citra "Hotkeys" don't work in this configuration. May have something to do with not being in "Single Window Mode". Basically this means that anything that's considered a Hotkey (like Save / Load State) isn't recognized. Have to alt-tab over to the main Citra window and use the drop-down menu. Anyone else experience this, or have a fix? Thanks.

Works great, but my bottom screen is stretched. How do I fix it? (Android and Windows)
This used to work but after trying again like a month later it only works on the top screen, and after going through every step in the tutorial over and over again it's still the same.
Also idk why but custom_top_top and custom_top_left keep going back to true

Try launching citra, and then launching Borderless Gaming

So it seems to work, however the inputs *only* seem to work on the phone. I know this because if I disconnect my phone from spacedesk, the controls work perfectly, but when I connect, I can use my phone as a touchpad, but my keyboard, mouse, and controller stop working. Do you have any solutions for that?
I'm having the opposite issue. Inputs work perfectly fine on keyboard and mouse, but I can't touch the virtual screen on the phone. the phone screen works normally, (for instance, I can right click the desktop on the phone screen), but I cannot touch any in-game menu options on the phone screen
So I have everything right, but I can only at best get half the bottom screen to show up on my phone. It looks as if "custom_top_left\default" and "custom_top_top\default" in the config file keep switching back to true. I don't know what is causing it and no matter how many times I change it back to false it keeps changing itself back without me touching any settings.
When I supersize, the game only appears on the main display, the other screen is just white. Have you ever experienced that?
Great tutorial, but when I finally start Citra it changes my custom_bottom_right= to 0. Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
Will an older phone work with this? I have an extra Android 5.1.1 5" phone I plan to find a mount that would allow me to have the phone sitting under the Steam Deck / Onexplayer that sort of handheld so you can have a true DS/3DS like experience.

Borderless Gaming has my citra stuck. I tried reversing it any way that I could, even uninstalling and reinstalling citra and borderless gaming. Please tell me that there is a fix.

hi im currently using citra nightly 1828 and the custom_ bit looks a bit different, i've changed the numbers but when i checked again it reset to what it was before should i get an older version of citra and which one? thanks
first off, this is wonderful tutorial and it is very informative. So thank you so much for taking the time to make it.
Having said that, I am having trouble with my second screen. Spacedesk is working well, i followed the .ini tutorial perfectly, step-by-step, and then followed the borderless gaming part exactly as well. Unfortunately, on my tablet (second screen), 3/4ths of the screen works, but i still see my desktop on the other 1/4th AND my taskbar is still visible. I dont know what to do other than plead for your help and expertise.

It's possible but mine is stretched a lil bit but is otherwise playable.

Glad I could help. AS for the controller, I don't that one unfortunately. For me I use a Switch Pro Controller and the BetterJoy app to get gyro controls and it works perfectly.

Ok, so I'm only getting 3/4 of the bottom screen on my phone, and I've checked, double, and triple checked the settings in Borderless Gaming and they're as you suggest. Could anything else need checking?
Does it appear stretched? or is it just cropped weird and you can see your wallpaper behind?
@@aeliusdawn just cropped weird mate. I've got a couple of mm gap at the bottom and about a 3rd of the screen missing on the right hand side where I can see the desktop.

hi man. everything worked perfectly, except for one thing. i cant seem to touch, move, or interact with anything on my phone while it shows the bottom 3ds screen. it is like clicking on a still image. however, there are animations! how do i fix this? the touch works while i am on the desktop, yet stops once i get on citra.

What's the math if you have the second display set up underneath the main one? I don' really want to edit my monitor positions in settings because its actualy under my display and will confuse my mouse
Make sure your top and bottom displays are aligned to the left.
custom_top_left= 0
custom_top_top= 0
custom_top_right= (horizontal resolution of top display)
custom_top_bottom= (vertical resolution of top display)
custom_bottom_left= 0
custom_bottom_top= (vertical resolution of top display)
custom_bottom_right= (horizontal resolution of bottom display)
custom_bottom_bottom= (vertical resolution of top AND bottom display)
then for Borderless gaming:
pixel X: 0
pixel Y: 0
Windows width: horizontal resolution of the largest display
Windows height: vertical resolution of top AND bottom display

It worked, but even though i set it up exactly how you said, the screen on my phone is a little stretched, it cuts off my top buttons on animal crossing :(
Oh didnt see this before. Try playing with the options in the spacedesk app. Like the Native IOS Resolution option, I found that it works differently on different devices

Hey! I've done everything as said but as soon as I launch Citra, it changes the "custom_top_left" and "custom_top_top" in the qt-config file back to default...
Thats because the default is 0 and so is the custom
Ima have to try this with the AyaNeo Flip DS, because it seems it should work if i just replace the phone with the bottom screen of the AyaNeo
Such an amazing feature and video. Everything worked for me perfectly and my only question is a simple one. How would I close out of space desk when im done? Do I just close it on the Iphone app switcher and then hit the red x on windows or is there a better way you do it? Also, what's the easiest way to revert back to the original settings or whatever if, say, your phone is dead and you still want to play Citra.
Thats how I close it too. And you can have a seperate config file that you just switch out in the folder. But you have to do it when citra isnt running

Same question. Did you ever find a way? There's no Citra folder in Roaming when using Retroarch.

I've managed to do something that kinda works on melon ds, the screens don't take up the entire use of space, but it still all works as you'd hope

It worked on my tab s7 with the ipega controller now i can play the games alot better

The cites devs are lazy. At this point the should have had a separate screen window option, but all they have are excuses. Cemu did it, no reason they cant
I think I've done everything right but whenever I fullscreen my citra the second screen on my tablet minimizes. It does work but the file view emulation etc options above my main screen bothers me , how would I fix it?

@@aeliusdawn hello a quick update I found out my mistake, instead of opening the game and then setting it in borderless gaming I instead put the actual citra as favorite in borderless gaming sorry I was dumb thank you it does work now 100 percent
it works but i have to close and open citra everytime i closed the first game or only shows a small borderless window. Any workarounds?
Borderless gaming is weird, I usually close and open it again before each gaming session.
I'm using my TV and my tablet and both display settings is set on 1920x1080. Can't get a perfect bottom screen... How do I do that?
The tablet is 10.5" if that's matter...
well the resolution of the tablet doesnt matter, it's what you put in the SpaceDesk app that does. if you put 1280x720 for example, your computer will recognize it as a second monitor of that size and thats what you need to use for all the config stuff

It didn’t do anything it was just showing the top screen on both my phone and PC
Probably because you have your phone set to copy your main display in your display settings

It shouldnt, but you can always copy the layout section of the config file in another text file just to make sure

When I check "Use native IOS resolution" my PC shows the native resolution instead of the custom one. How did you check it and have your pc display the custom resolution?
Well Since making that tutorial I have found that the app sometimes give random results and its a lot of trial and error. For me It just works. What phone do you have?
@@aeliusdawn XR. I noticed the config files in citra don’t save either. Some do but others reset
@@mattlannimusic Are you talking about the default lines? If the value you put in the same as default, it will be put back to true automatically. Wont make a difference

@@aeliusdawn sorry for the late reply. I did end up figuring out what was wrong. My dimensions for the resolution were off and after I adjusted them again it worked perfectly fine. Thanks for replying though
Hey there, I am trying this using Ipega controls and an ASUS Nexus 7 which has a native resolution of 1280x800. I have checked and double checked both the Citra config file and Borderless Gaming settings and I still see half of my Windows desktop and half of the 3DS bottom screen. I've been banging my head against this for more than two hours. Any assistance you could provide would be AWESOME!
Never mind. I fixed it. I was having a really strange issue with Citra. This is an absolutely AWESOME tutorial. Highly recommended! I would also recommend that you pick up an Ipega PG-9083S to use with Citra and your phone or tablet. It really completes the gaming atmosphere!

Make sure that Citra isnt opened while you edit the config file, and make sure that you put custom_layout to true.

I figured it out. Go to "Display settings" and move your "second screen" to be "vertically" or "horizontally" aligned with the "first screen". your "custom bottom top" and "custom bottom left" are where the "second screen" is offset to.

At 3:40 How do i find these settings? Top Bottom so on?
It's not a menu, its just an image I made to make the text to write in the config file clearer
I checked all the settings multiple times but still the mobile screen is not utilised complete there is taskbar and some of the screen still showing
Edit - I hid the taskbar and tried increasing the width but it's still same but reducing the width trims the screen like what is even happening
Edit 2 - after 3-4 hours of mindless tries it finally worked insted of getting 16:9 it worked in 4:3
Its not working in any aspect ratio or resolution for me. I only get the left half of the bottom screen on the phone.

That means that borderless gaming isnt setup properly. The purpose of that app is to force the citra window to a certain size, so if you can see your desktop then you neeck to go check it again

Probably because the value you enter is the same as the default value. Should work fine either way

@@aeliusdawn In Pokemon 3ds games there is a feature of petting and feeding Pokemon to increase your bonding. To use this feature, open Pokemon 3ds game. Locate Pokemon Amie or Refresh at the bottom screen. Tap it and you are ready to play with your Pokemon 😊
