Thank you so much for that tutorial. Never made one because I thought it is really hard to do. You make it look so easy, I will make one as soon as I find time. You are a wonderful teacher!
@@Mellysews Thank you for this tutorial, you really do explain thing very well. I was wondering if you have ever used fleece for a hoodie or sweatshirt.
Just finished making this in a longer length as I couldn’t find any longer length hoodies to buy, and am so happy with it. Your video made it so easy to make , thanks a million 🙏
I love this tutorial!! You made it look so easy. My one and only attempt at a sweatshirt was in jr high home economics. Let’s just say one sleeve might have been longer than the other and a cuff was wrongside out lol. I still wore it since I made it with my little hands 🤷🏾♀️. This gives me hope that I can make a proper hoodie one day. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome tutorial on this hoodie. I prefer my hoodies with a full length zipper. I'm using an old hoodie for my pattern. I've never sewn a hoodie but your tutorial was extremely helpful thank you.
I agree with Monika! What an excellent tutorial and I think it's incredible that you are offering a free pattern for this. I live in Maine, love hoodies and basically wear them from now to April! I can actually have a hoodie in a fabric I love! Thank you!!
Quick question Melly...I have a (silly I know) personal issue with unfinished raw edges, even if they don’t fray🙄. This being so, could I serge the hoodie before I insert the grommet and fold back the drawstring channel, provided I don’t trim much when serging? Thank you xx
Wow! I am new to your blog, channel and newsletter, yep I hit them all! Was looking for a hoodie pattern for my son's Christmas present and now I am down your rabbit hole of knowledge. Thanks for the hoodie pattern and very thorough sewing video. I appreciate it so much and am looking forward to another project with your patterns.
Hi Melly, thank you so much for this tutorial, it is very easy to follow and straightforward. I have a quick question, does the pattern include the seam allowance? or do I have to add that to the pattern. Thank you so much!
great pattern and video! I made one today out of a plush fleece fabric and added some length as I wasn't going to add the rib knit. Now I think I need to add the rib knit. If you still look at comments here could you tell me where you buy your rib knits? Thank you.
I love all your videos, thank you for all of them. I want to do this one but I live in South Florida so Im always looking for a cooler hack. As long as I keep the stretch amt the same do you think it will be ok if i use lighter weight fabric? maybe even some UV fabric if I can find some with a tiny bit of stretch. Sometimes I can get thin poly that will likely match the stretch requirements. your thoughts?
Hello there Melly thank you once again for a fantastic and informative video. I just purchased a Burda Hoodie/sweatshirt pattern today and looking at it Im thinking "Hmmmm can I really do this"? But this video is perfect (as per usual) and given me the confidence to go ahead with it! Would I be able to make this out of a Ponte Roma fabric or textured Jersey? Or do I have to stick to the conventional fleece or sweatshirting fabric? Bless you mel. Much love from the UK x
Wow this looks amazing! Just one question: if I want to make a light sweatshirt (for spring or fall weather) can I replace the sweatshirt fleece with a flannel shirting?
I printed out the pattern and made this hoody. Looks very nice but too small. How can I upsize this patttern to a size 38 The patttern I printed is a size 34.
First I'd suggest checking your print settings to make sure it printed to scale. mellysews.com/print-pdf-sewing-patterns/ This is how to resize patterns mellysews.com/make-sewing-pattern-bigger-smaller/
if you like a thicker hood like those nike hoodies you can simply make two hoods and put wrong sides out and sow the edges. then flip, add grommets through one layer of fabric and sow the tunnel similar to how she did. i’m bad at explaining but this is what o did and it looks and wears just like the fancy hoodies.
Nice tutorial, love it it, will help me for my vanellope cosplay. I have a question, when you install the reinforcement ring on the hood, how large did you left for the seam allowance all the way around?
@@Mellysews I thought you were using an old hoodie and not an already made pattern. But if I use an old hoodie can a seam allowance of 1 or 2 inch can be good? And when I know what will be my seam allowance, how may I know where to put the grommets and not having the fabric ripping apart?
How is the hood sewn on, the serger or the sewing machine? I think it would be hard to go through all the layers of fabrics on the front of the hood with the serger, and the serged seam would be too narrow to lay flat underneath. I prefer serged seams but have trouble with serged v-necks.
