  • WQXR's Beethoven Piano Sonata Marathon, which took place in The Greene Space on Nov. 20, 2011 featured a lineup which spanned a range of personalities and national schools. It included the flamboyant individualists Evan Shinners and Timothy Andres; the Russian powerhouses Daria Rabotkina and Natasha Paremski; and the Chinese up-and-comers Qi Xu and Yuchong Wu. Some, including Jeremy Denk, Jonathan Biss and Alessio Bax, are already boldface names on the international concert circuit; others are on their way.

    Reading this, 23 (needless to say) and hammerclavier were Beethoven 's favorite. That brought me here for my first listen of 25. Such an excellent performance!!! I so appreciate performers that work to do a masterpiece like this justice. Also love "obey Beethoven" on the wall! 😊

    I feel as though the first movement should be slightly faster. Opening the piece with a bit more vigour and intensity. great use of articulation though.

    • @yinggao541
      @yinggao541 5 лет назад +3

      Really?
      It's fast enough already
      The speed should be about 168-176 to an eighth note on the metronome
      To me it's a bit too fast
      If it's too fast it's almost uncontrollable
      Sometimes I wonder how he does it
      The second mvt should be a touch slower because the tempo specifies it as Andante
      But generally a great performance
      Third mvt just right at the speed

    • @TheRockerboy999
      @TheRockerboy999 5 лет назад

      Just my opinion, but there is a great version (in my opinion) by Barenboim on youtube, look it up, i think he plays the 1st movement near enough perfectly

    • @TheRockerboy999
      @TheRockerboy999 5 лет назад

      but to add... this is by no means a bad performance, very skilled and controlled

      LozzaBHD yes I agree

    • @nottipiglet
      @nottipiglet 5 лет назад +1

      Nope... it’s a good speed. Well controlled and very musical. You may like it faster... but that does not mean it ‘should’ be faster. Everyone plays it differently... but I find this interpretation very convincing.

    A piano composition is a piece - not a song. Songs have words for someone to sing. I did not hear anyone singing so you should call this composition either a piano piece or a piano sonata.
    A “song” it definitely is not.
