I have no doubt that this will be one of your top anime of all time! It's now picking up and I can't wait for you to start season 2! You will love it. This show is so well written. FYI: This season is animated by studio WIT which also animated AoT season 1-3. Season 2 will be , like Aot from season 4 on, be animated by MAPPA.
I love how everyone goes from "I love how Thorfinn is getting stronger and killing all these dudes" at the start of this episode to the realization of how messed up it is and that he is becoming everything that Thors didn't want for his son. This show does such a great job of never letting you forget that Thorfinn is no hero for fighting on the battlefield, and that he is causing lots of pain and suffering to innocent people all for his goal of getting revenge.
Absolutely! It's so brilliant! On one hand, how cool he's getting stronger on the other hand his Dad would be so sad that his son became everything he tried so hard for him not to become ❤
21:05 I believe he was 6 when he left Iceland. That was in year 1002. This episode showed we skipped to year 1008 so he would be 12. Kind English lady side story was heart-breaking.
The thing with Askeladd making that chopping gesture at his neck is basically him saying to Thorfinn "What, don't you want your chance to take my head?" Or to put it another way, he's saying "You have to do what I say if you want to get yet another chance to duel me and kill me. If you want my head, go do what I say."
If you thought anime was going to be all fun, super powers, cute girls, and cheeky scenes... Welcome to Peakland Saga! Where real storytelling can leave a lasting impact.
It just gets better from here on. This show is goated for many reasons and the OST just gets better each EP. I feel so bad for Thorfinn.. He kills a person when he's around like 6, 7 years old. Now he lost his innocence and his quest for vengeance has only started.
Thorfinn is such a good kid with behavioral issues... like, even before all this, he shows that kids are only as innocent as the stuff they've absorbed and are parroting. if the people in their community glorify violence, then the kid will think its second nature as a response. and even after all of this, Thorfinn is still operating with the mind of a child. he told the woman to run... why didn't she run? he doesn't get it. there's a lot of stuff that Thorfinn doesn't understand, because the only thing he's being properly taught, is how to survive the life he's living. kids who grow up in bad households, and learn from bad people, and have behavioral issues because of it, can be really hard to sympathize with. sometimes they will act like little assholes, because where were they supposed to learn how to behave better? I love season 1 Thorfinn with all my heart... he's so wonderfully difficult, and I love that Makoto Yukimura wrote a story about him.
The show of emotions on the characters faces is underrated. It is hard to catch when you are reading the subs but it is done perfect with the OSTs. Most animes would just have the character tell you how they feel... Vinland Saga is made for people with more mature understanding of situations.
@@CSM_Kobeni Agreed, series needs mature understanding. I see some takes in the past that are so bad then look up what anime they like and it is solely unga bunga or cringe stuff.
This episode always hits so hard... The way he takes a deep breath in the end is heartbreaking, you can tell that he has finally cast away his childlike innocence, because how could he give up after already doing so much in pursuit of his goals?
0:46 or 1:56 this pronunciation is probably the most common, and the simplest, and it's the one I use... it's the pronunciation where it sounds how it looks. other pronunciations are maybe a bit more literal when it comes to the name's etymology, but I think it's just easier to say it how it's spelled... and neither way is actually wrong. I think that moment where Askeladd stabs the guy on top of Thorfinn is a great visual metaphor for their relationship at this stage. like, at this point Askeladd has given Thorfinn several opportunities to live, when he could've let him die, and several pieces of advice that have served him functionally, when he's put them into practice. but also, I would not consider what Askeladd does to be "care" in the traditional sense... and the advice he's given Thorfinn has led him to that brutal moment of his first human kill, where he's basically unsupervised on a proving ground, and encouraged to take that next step toward the brutality that these men call normal. I think what we're seeing is Askeladd upholding his deal with Thors, in kind of the letter of the law, if not the spirit. Thors said that if he gave his life, Askeladd should spare every other person in his crew. and sure enough, Askeladd isn't letting Thorfinn die. but even as Askeladd technically "saves" Thorfinn, by murdering a man on top of him, the sword digs into Thorfinn's body as well. the kid may be alive, true enough, but there's very little regard for how else this might be hurting him. and so, we start to get into a bit of Askeladd and Thorfinn's little ongoing arrangement. wherein Askeladd has promised Thorfinn another duel... another shot at killing him... if Thorfinn can "accomplish something great on the battlefield" first. and it's taken this much time... years of Thorfinn tagging along, and learning how to brutalize people... before Askeladd will deem him fit to even try challenging him again. I'd say Thorfinn is about 10 years old, by the time we see him appear before this woman and her daughter. at this point, keep an eye on the conditions that Thorfinn is being asked to meet, what his reward is supposed to be, and how his task is making him feel most of the time. because for as much as "kill your master to prove you have no more need of him" is a trope, Askeladd is calculated, and he doesn't let any of this get outside of his control. Thorfinn is essentially being asked to work on a vague, open ended prompt. what does "accomplish something great" actually mean? Thorfinn doesn't know. he just knows that Askeladd never thinks he's good enough. and Askeladd has strung him along with this very shitty carrot on a stick for years now. in this way, Thorfinn's whole existence is defined by striving, implicit failure, and rage. it feeds off of the very same shame he felt for having been too weak to prevent his father's death, right before his eyes. he's still too weak. he couldn't do anything. Askeladd still won't take him seriously. and if he can just kill Askeladd... if he can just get him back for the amount of pain he's caused Thorfinn... then, maybe Thorfinn won't have to feel like an utter failure about this anymore. but in the meantime, look at Thorfinn's condition. look at his injuries, his malnourishment, his poor hygiene, his ostracization from normal people... the way being treated better doesn't tempt him anymore. Thorfinn is learning to look at a better life, when it is placed right under his nose, and reject it. because it's too soft, too comfortable... too easy. Thorfinn can't have that. it's not for him. not until he finishes his mission, and proves that he's earned it back. he hardly even remembers why he might want something like this. once again, here is a ten year old child, being asked to choose between constant toil, where the _reward_ is probably an ass kicking... and a warm household, with kind and respectful people, who don't make fun of him, who feed him, and clothe him, and bathe him, and treat his wounds. by simple tally of resources gained, one should be the obvious most advantageous choice. but Thorfinn has been trained, like a dog, to see the treat in front of his nose, and not even try to eat it. because he hasn't performed enough tricks yet. he hasn't earned it, and thus, he doesn't deserve it. and the fact that this woman and her daughter are reminders of Helga and Ylva is just the cherry on top of the whole scenario. if Thorfinn can't even accept the kindness of strangers over a life of constant violence, then he definitely hasn't earned the right to go back home. but even once he does "earn" that right... can he go back home like this? how would his mother look at him, if he did? I think the most heartbreaking little detail is that, after this woman took the time to wash and brush his hair out, that's the part of him that ends up stained with blood, right off the bat. Thorfinn is a child, and he's absorbing influences that leave him without the ability to value these things... but as he reproduces the effects of how he's living, he is still hurting people. and that final shot of the broken comb lying on the ground... Thorfinn might be beyond anyone's ability to care for now.
@@GOTGames yeah, Askeladd is such a wonderfully morally muddy character. for every "nice" thing he does, there's just enough utter shit in his behavior to undercut any warm feelings you could've gotten from it. but for every "mean" thing he does, there's just enough charismatic pragmatism to temper whatever anger you might feel. it'll often leave you waffling back and forth on how you see him, and I think the story's time is well spent building him this way.
Waited so long for you to react to VS mostly because there isn’t a lot of reactors who are really into Viking and history and who is actually British…not disappointed with your reactions so far! Loving it. Keep the historical bits coming, and also love seeing your reactions to how well done VS is. It’s really special :)
Everything you've said about vikings helped in unification in England like different Kingdoms all unite in one single monarchy, actually happens in Vinland Saga. If you watch until season 2 you'll see, it's interesting 😁.
seen your today's reaction made me think that is almost sure you're gonna cry at the end of this season and also with the second season. Vinland Saga is a master piece, you haven't seen nothing yet.
Luke should hang it on his mic or something on his desk so he can put it on for the reacts since he said he doesn't like to wear the leather in the summer.
Don't forget this kind English woman, because Thorfinn's crime against her will be important to him for the rest of his life. 🥹 The essence of this anime is not to enjoy flashy battles or the battle between good and evil. What makes Vinland Saga a masterpiece is the delicate and beautiful story and music, the detailed character settings and development, the quiet expression of emotions, and the incredibly moving and deep message. So the most important thing is the little conversations between the characters! Don't miss them. This anime is like a bonfire. It starts with a small fire, slowly and gradually spreads, and at the end it burns like a big flame! 🔥 So you have to watch it until the end.
*Thorfinn Gets stabed in the back* Luke : 13:23 "He got stabed alittle bit though are we not acknowdleging that?.....is he okay?" also Luke : 14:00 "Did he get hit in the back when was that?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ok. Anime on one hand isn’t constrained by budget in that way but it potentially can effect the quality of fight scenes because animation is still very expensive. What I love is how crazy they can make the stories since actual people aren’t involved
repaying kindness with evil, even at thorfinns young age he knows what he has done. how the anime does his silent acceptance with a single deep breath was masterful. THIS was the episode that hooked
The king during the war against Swein Forkberd is known as Æthelred the unready. Which, very uncommonly among english, is a pun. Æthelred basically means, noble or good counsel and unready used to mean bad counsel, basically his name is Smart the stupid. This anime is special to me, because I am Danish. I know it's not the best showing so far, all the danes being awful murder machines and all that. Still, three of my top 20 anime characters are all in this show and you've only really seen one so far.
This journey is a heavy one, and this episode is one clear instance of that. There will be some other low points that may strike you as worse than this one, even, but it's all part of the brilliance of the story as a whole. Those of us who've seen it feel your pain just like the first time, and those of us seeing it through your reaction are feeling it too. Your reaction and thoughts have been lovely and deep, and I'm very appreciative of it. It won't be clear for a long while yet, but the overarching message of the series is one that I think still resonates today. Vinland Saga is such a powerful anime and story; I am glad to see you enjoying it. I'm rooting for you, Luke, and I am glad you're feeling better! ^.^
As a Dane, you pronounce it like this: *Ask* (as in, "ask me a question"), then "eh" (as in how the Japanese say "Eh?"), then "lad" ("you okay lad?") So: "ask-eh-lad"
From everything I can find it is more of an As-keh as it is for Ash and not Ask. Aske is Ash in Danish and when I have checked all the pronunciations it sounds as such. But I will say they spelt it Askeladd and not Asheladd. People want to keep pushing As-He just because it means Ash and they think it should sound like Ash, even though Aske is the word used for Ash.
@@Krawbs I am aware. As I said, I am danish and, so I know that aske means ash. I was just trying to convey how you would pronounce it in english. The whole "ashelad" thing seems to stem from the fact that's how they are pronoucing it in Japanese.
@@Krawbs As-ke is how correct as well. Idk if you read it differently, but: As-ke Ask-eh I read the same way. But maybe I'm not the best at conveying sound through text. I can't really just say it out loud through text. I just thought using english words/phonetics would help make it more readable.
It's funny how you mention the last 2 episodes being where it finally clicked for you considering that it was around the last 2 episodes in the manga material where the series made the transition from Shonen (aimed at late kids/teens) to Seinen (young adults to adults). Also the moment where it sinks in that it's actually a terrible thing that Thorfinn has become such an adept killer is like a stone dropping in your stomach
Not every episode is as good as this one, but there are a lot of episodes coming up that are just as good if not better. I'm looking forward to your reaction to these.
England didn't have a standing army until the 17th century, the common viking enemy did help England to unify tho. "LESGOO THORFINN... wait no... STOP THORFINN!"
After Thorfinn’s 1st blood I thought you’ll say you’re gonna love it and it came out exactly after that scene 😂 I believe you just got your favourite anime of all time right now😁The writing here at the end man…They just had to run…
Great reaction as always very genuine thorfinn is 12 here btw if u want a timeline 1002 is when thorfinn was 6 at the beginning then here its 1008 so he's 12 yo
This episode hyped you up for Thorfinn's development as a "warrior", and then threw that away by making you feel guilty for it. That's insane narrative design.
That part where Thorfinn is being taken care of by that older lady and the daughter is probably the few instances in an anime like this where if they keep it to one language (which is not either of the languages the characters speak), it can be hard to tell that, yeah one character is supposed to be speaking Danish and the others are supposed to be speaking English (well, old 11th century English at least), so it can be confusing. 25:15 well to be fair the guy is just seeing a little blonde kid. He doesn't know if he's a Dane or not.
to give even more historical context. this is historically based on the life of thorfinn karlsefni. set during the same time to a tea even to the politics. he was a man who actually appeared in or maybe even wrote the real life tellings of viking settlement of north america. the vinland sagas
This episode is interesting because the daughter of the woman is actually the one who is right when she says they shouldn't be taking in Thorfinn. Empathy can get you killed.
loooool at min 18:16 you said something about AC, in the manga they made a cameo of someone in the forest running with thorfinn, the guy had a hood and a hidden blade (that was a tribute when AC valhalla was released) btw my english is rusty, so im sorry :v
The last at 0:46 is the correct one the most famous thing with the vikings and the English would be the Danelaw, at least in my mind. at 22:33 this was a point which you didnt realised the religious thing, because the English was at least to some part Catholic, while the Vikings were pagans
1:55 If people come at you just for the prononciation of a name, you should say that name even worse each time. People getting pissed at this doesn't deserve any dedication.
Woops, I made a mistake commenting on the last video...I guess the next episode is the one that opened the manga, not this one! 😅 And yeeeah...this is a heartbreakingly brutal story at times. But that too, is part of the time it is set in. Heck, it is sadly true to the times we live in now as well...
The story doesn't take sides, it just shows war as it is brutal and violent for everyone involved and even the innocents caught in the crossfire. Brace yourself the ride's only just begun Also I'm not overly familiar with English History, but I do know the very basic progression of events, Island was inhabited by a subgroup of Celts, got invaded by Rome and was Romanized into the province of Britannia The Romans left due to more pressing concerns elsewhere (barbarian invasions) the Britons adopted Roman culture and sort of just kept living in the old Roman cities, Anglo Saxon invasion, the Britons get pushed to the Western Edges of the main Island (Wales) Anglo Saxons create their own kingdoms and thrive for quite a while, Vikings invade, Claim Northumbria and East Engle creating Danelaw, Danelaw collapses but Northumbria remains, Anglo Saxons attack Northumbria, the Danes respond with war - anything further would spoil the series

I watched the old opening & endings, from your channel. And if you really have big battles with sword & shield with several thousand soldiers. Kingdom it is. You can watch privately 1+2 seasons because the CCI is really bad. But Season 3 and more are so good would be worth it. Not so well known Anime because of season 1+2, But you won't regit it.
As a Norwegian, Askeladden is pronounced the way it's written, meaning it will sound like aske-ladden (ask-eh-la-dden) though the japanese pronounce it as Ash-e-ladd so in this case I'd say either way would be correct. Thorfinn however doesn't use the Th (f-sounding) pronounce, just straight up a T. 😊
Both pronunciations of Askeladd are technically correct - Ash-eh-ladd is a Norwegian pronunciation, Ask-eh-ladd is more English In Japanese they seem to pronounce it the Norwegian way and in the English dub they went with the English version.
32:52 You think the last two episodes have been incredible? Oh Luke…trust me, you’re just at the tip of the iceberg. You’re not even getting to the “good” parts of Vinland Saga yet, let alone the “great” parts.
Luke's reaction really went from 🤩 to 😢 Also, this is the start of "Thorfinn's hell" that gonna haunts him even until the current story arc in the original manga.
Just a slight correction here; anime are still very constrained in terms of budget and time for animating large scale things. It usually requires a ton of cg and rotoscoping to create really large battle sequences, and those shots usually only last for a few seconds. Usually you'd just get 'stills' of these huge crowds of people, with no motion, but some sound design over it, and then a few seconds of animation here and there where you focus on a select few men in the battle with some characters drawn in the background. But those shots are also very demanding. It would be incredibly hard, costly, and time consuming to draw a full on army in a battle, in motion, and having it look good. That is more easily achieved in live action, where you have a 500 extras on a field/set.
It’s supposed to be Ash-e-ladd, and that’s why the voice actors also pronounce it that way, but for some reason many people pronounce it like Ask-e-ladd.
The voice actors are Japanese they're not well known for their English pronunciation. Paste "Askeladd" into google translate and hear the name in Danish or English.
Japanese pronounce different language names and words wrong constantly. Many sounds are not native to their tongue so have an accent when said. This is why Engrish in anime always sounds off. Aske is Ash in Danish/Norwegian. They pronounce it As-ke. The English dub does as well.
We had militia at this point in time if I’m not mistaken for this so small forces protecting there respected areas around the country which where probably under command but f the local lords and they probably gave portions of there forces to the king to protect the whole nation at least for think how they t worked at the time but not 100% I’ve done no digging to find out but this makes the most sense to me
2:10 Apparently, the Norse pronunciation of his name is Ashelad, so the Japanese pronunciation appears to be closer. 8:32 If you want big wars, you should watch Kingdom the anime. First season has bad animation, but the story will compensate for that. It has 5 seasons. The last 3 seasons are more recent, and the OST for those are made by the same people that made the music for Attack on Titan.
Aske means Ash in Norwegian and Danish. Seeing as how the Vikings are Danes it would be best to use As-ke. If they wanted his name to be pronounced As-he they would have spelt it as such.
Whoever pitched you this show as a "historical viking" show is doing you a disservice, I love your style of reaction and have no doubt that you'll see the type of show this anime is soon enough! Also leave a box of tissues nearby you might need it
0:41 It's supposed to be pronounced "Asheladd" or "Ash Lad" Another explaination, more context but a little "spoiler"? This is actually not his real name but a nickname, he was called "Ashen Lad" as a child since he was constantly covered in ash from various jobs he did. This will be explained later on tho
@@reruarikushiteru The Japanese are wrong. They also spell it Askeladd and not Asheladd. The English dub also uses As-ke-lad. If you are trusting Japanese ways of saying names/words from different languages you are making a mistake.

I can always expect to see you in any Vinland Saga related video coming in with the comment essay 🤣
Always an insightful read though, so thanks
@@mattc6236 yeah, I suppose I'm getting notorious for this... ^^;
thank you though, for noticing my little media analysis jam sessions
I do like how you put it with him basically keeping him alive but also... Kinda .. ish
23:32 "I'm not liking this..." yeah... Mr Piano Man got in the booth, its a tender wholesome scene, in Vinland Saga... yeeeeaaaah...
The composer is built different. Season 2 has so much great music too
😳
Askeladd signing the neck chop is basically him saying "want to kill me? then do your job"
Many tears will definitely be shed by Luke throughout this journey, for sure ❤
Every time I see a Vinland Saga react and Luke isn't wearing his Viking necklace... I get a little sad. 😢
Luke should hang it on his mic or something on his desk so he can put it on for the reacts since he said he doesn't like to wear the leather in the summer.
He should forreallll
Alright! I will make sure I wear it from now! It's downstairs and it's hot so it gets a bit sticky BUT I got you! ✊
@@GOTGames Woo! Just keep it on your computer desk somewhere.
Don't forget this kind English woman, because Thorfinn's crime against her will be important to him for the rest of his life. 🥹
The essence of this anime is not to enjoy flashy battles or the battle between good and evil. 🔥
So you have to watch it until the end.
*Thorfinn Gets stabed in the back*
Luke : 13:23 "He got stabed alittle bit though are we not acknowdleging that?.....is he okay?"
also Luke : 14:00 "Did he get hit in the back when was that?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I hope this series stays on the channel until season 2 is over, I think you'll like it
The king during the war against Swein Forkberd is known as Æthelred the unready.
The scene with this really nice lady broke my heart.
As a Dane, you pronounce it like this:
*Ask* (as in, "ask me a question"), then
"eh" (as in how the Japanese say "Eh?"), then
"lad" ("you okay lad?")
So: "ask-eh-lad"
From everything I can find it is more of an As-keh as it is for Ash and not Ask. Aske is Ash in Danish and when I have checked all the pronunciations it sounds as such.
But I will say they spelt it Askeladd and not Asheladd. People want to keep pushing As-He just because it means Ash and they think it should sound like Ash, even though Aske is the word used for Ash.
no, the lad is pronounced like a normal nonenglish "a", which is like the "u" in "bruv".
The english "a" is more of an "ä/ey"
@@Krawbs I am aware. As I said, I am danish and, so I know that aske means ash.
I was just trying to convey how you would pronounce it in english.
The whole "ashelad" thing seems to stem from the fact that's how they are pronoucing it in Japanese.
@@666HeroHero I am questioning Ask versus As-Ke for pronunciation though because I only see As-Ke online for it in Danish.
@@Krawbs As-ke is how correct as well. Idk if you read it differently, but:
As-ke
Ask-eh
I read the same way.
Also the moment where it sinks in that it's actually a terrible thing that Thorfinn has become such an adept killer is like a stone dropping in your stomach
icant wait for u to see season 2 dont let anyone tell u anithings about season 2
This series is one of a handful that stand out as the best of what anime/manga have to offer.
30:09 forgot about that... genuinely heartbreaking...she's so shocked and disappointed
How did you forget? That scene will never leave my memory.
@matijamaksan4344 oh now its never leaving lol
Really is
Not every episode is as good as this one, but there are a lot of episodes coming up that are just as good if not better. I'm looking forward to your reaction to these.
England didn't have a standing army until the 17th century, the common viking enemy did help England to unify tho.
"LESGOO THORFINN... wait no... STOP THORFINN!"
18:14 Funny you should say that, they did a special one off mini chapter for AC: Valhalla promotion with Thorfinn encountering Eivor.
Thank you for explaining
@@GOTGames also by this time he has spent more time with the crew than his own family soo...
2:01 its the 2nd one but said in one word, just listen to how they pronounce it in the English version, they make it sound natural
to give even more historical context. this is historically based on the life of thorfinn karlsefni. set during the same time to a tea even to the politics. he was a man who actually appeared in or maybe even wrote the real life tellings of viking settlement of north america. the vinland sagas
This episode is interesting because the daughter of the woman is actually the one who is right when she says they shouldn't be taking in Thorfinn. Empathy can get you killed.
loooool at min 18:16 you said something about AC, in the manga they made a cameo of someone in the forest running with thorfinn, the guy had a hood and a hidden blade (that was a tribute when AC valhalla was released) btw my english is rusty, so im sorry :v
he's gonna absolutely shit himself when he gets to farmland saga
if he gets to a 10 out of 10 for this season 2nd season will be like 30 out of 10
I have a lot of respect for season 1, and how dark it is, but I can't wait for you to watch season 2. I feel you'll love it even more than season 1
Now that is pacing at its finest, well-done character development. Vinland Saga keeps cooking🔥🔥🔥
Easily a Top 5 show. Especially when you can appreciate the more subtle aspects
I wouldn't compare this with The series Vikings (or any other serie like that), this is a Journey of Character Development, that's all i can say.
16:50 Insert ABSOLUTE CINEMA meme 🖐🏻🧔🏼🖐🏻
😂
Vinland saga is not just a story about badass vikings being badass, it's a dramatic story of a happy kid turned into a monster
The last at 0:46 is the correct one
the most famous thing with the vikings and the English would be the Danelaw, at least in my mind.
at 22:33 this was a point which you didnt realised the religious thing, because the English was at least to some part Catholic, while the Vikings were pagans
To pronounce Askeladd correctly you have to hear how they in the anime call him and just reproduce the sound
The old lady reminded Thorfin of his past before he became a monster 😢
Thorfinn is Rogue goals... but sadness as well.
Askeladd is pronounced with a K in the norse language, but with a "sh" sound in Japanese
I see the name of the pirate captain and hear Aski-lad in my head
im excited of where this is going!
This hit a lot harder than the first time i watched for some reason, specially the first few kills.
Brace yourself the ride's only just begun
Also I'm not overly familiar with English History, but I do know the very basic progression of events,
Island was inhabited by a subgroup of Celts, got invaded by Rome and was Romanized into the province of Britannia The Romans left due to more pressing concerns elsewhere (barbarian invasions) the Britons adopted Roman culture and sort of just kept living in the old Roman cities, Anglo Saxon invasion, the Britons get pushed to the Western Edges of the main Island (Wales) Anglo Saxons create their own kingdoms and thrive for quite a while, Vikings invade, Claim Northumbria and East Engle creating Danelaw, Danelaw collapses but Northumbria remains, Anglo Saxons attack Northumbria, the Danes respond with war - anything further would spoil the series

What you said around 28:00 that is exactly what S4 of AoT did right?
I watched the old opening & endings, from your channel. And if you really have big battles with sword & shield with several thousand soldiers. Kingdom it is. You can watch privately 1+2 seasons because the CCI is really bad. But Season 3 and more are so good would be worth it. Not so well known Anime because of season 1+2, But you won't regit it.
You should be lucky Luke, the manga was way more dark and disturbing than this show. This was a toned down version
0:45 the last one is the one
This episode is heart-breaking
Both pronunciations of Askeladd are technically correct - Ash-eh-ladd is a Norwegian pronunciation, Ask-eh-ladd is more English
In Japanese they seem to pronounce it the Norwegian way and in the English dub they went with the English version.
32:52 You think the last two episodes have been incredible? Oh Luke…trust me, you’re just at the tip of the iceberg. You’re not even getting to the “good” parts of Vinland Saga yet, let alone the “great” parts.
I think The Last Kingdom did a fairly good job in spite of their lack of budget. One of my favorite tv shows of all time.
That's so cool! Goku is in this episode?! (His VO)💯💯💯
Are your ancestors vikings Luke?
The easiest way to explain the pronunciation is ask a Ladd
Luke's reaction really went from 🤩 to 😢
Also, this is the start of "Thorfinn's hell" that gonna haunts him even until the current story arc in the original manga.
this one always gets me
Y'all overthinking pronunciations I just call him "axe a lad"
Well, seeing your playlist has gone up to episode 22, I'm guessing you stuck around even after. 25:57
Ask a ladd or Ashy Ladd
Does this help 😂
27:12 It is easy to label enemies, but you have no enemies.😉
you HAVE GOTTA react to wind breaker op and ed it's ongoing and imo it's tge best new spring anime
when it comes to askeladd i pronounce it as ash ch elad with the ch being like a softer germanic ch
3:48 “My wife from my son” does he have two wives?🤔
Thank you
1:55 Ask-ur-dad... oh wait he's dead
I recommend the movie The Northman for a good Viking based movie.
Luke, call Askeladd either Ash-Lad or As-ke-lad
To swim or sink....
You can tell Luke is not good at pronouncing things because he even pronounces the word pronunciation wrong 😂
This moment when Thorfinn becomes Ereh
We had militia at this point in time if I’m not mistaken for this so small forces protecting there respected areas around the country which where probably under command but f the local lords and they probably gave portions of there forces to the king to protect the whole nation at least for think how they t worked at the time but not 100% I’ve done no digging to find out but this makes the most sense to me
king Sweyn
nice
2:10 Apparently, the Norse pronunciation of his name is Ashelad, so the Japanese pronunciation appears to be closer.
8:32 If you want big wars, you should watch Kingdom the anime. First season has bad animation, but the story will compensate for that. It has 5 seasons. The last 3 seasons are more recent, and the OST for those are made by the same people that made the music for Attack on Titan.
Actually, it is pronounced "Ask-the-land"
17:14 das dis das dis shut up man, lets just binge everything in one go😆
😅
Ah-Shih-LaAd
Aske means Ash in Norwegian and Danish. Seeing as how the Vikings are Danes it would be best to use As-ke. If they wanted his name to be pronounced As-he they would have spelt it as such.
@@Krawbs i'm literally repeating the actual pronunciation they use in the anime
@@umarsubhan7035 Japanese doesn't pronounce different languages correctly, thus Engrish.
@@Krawbs fair enough
how they say it is just the Japanese accent, you say his name how you read it, Ask-e-lad
Whoever pitched you this show as a "historical viking" show is doing you a disservice, I love your style of reaction and have no doubt that you'll see the type of show this anime is soon enough! Also leave a box of tissues nearby you might need it
0:41 It's supposed to be pronounced "Asheladd" or "Ash Lad"
Another explaination, more context but a little "spoiler"? This is actually not his real name but a nickname, he was called "Ashen Lad" as a child since he was constantly covered in ash from various jobs he did. This will be explained later on tho
Look up Aske in Danish/Norwegian and how they pronounce it. Aske means Ash. They pronounce it As-ke.
Asheladd is how japanese pronounce it, Danish pronouniation would be Askeladd
So it's the matter of which version you want to use
@@reruarikushiteru The Japanese are wrong. They also spell it Askeladd and not Asheladd. The English dub also uses As-ke-lad.
If you are trusting Japanese ways of saying names/words from different languages you are making a mistake.
