    Interesting job. At the end of your video, I noticed a lot of flammable debris such as dry pine needles next to your patio deck. Since I live in an area where we have wildfires, I would put gravel or some sort of fire barrier.

    Would you use liquid nail or some other “glue” instead of the drilling of the “frame” to the lattice?

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  3 года назад +1

      It might be OK and it would certainly look even cleaner. The plastic lattice will expand and contract, but since they're both the same material you might be OK. I would only glue it in a couple points, not along the full length.

    How did you cut the lattice to match the side that's at angle?

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  3 года назад +5

      I measured the length first. (left to right) Then I measured from top to bottom on each end. Then just transfer your measurements to the lattice and use something with a long straight edge (like a straight 2x4) as a guide to cut the lattice. Don't forget to make allowances for your trim pieces... I screwed the bottom and left side edge trim in place before I measured.

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  2 года назад

      Yes I do... for now, I just remove a panel when I need to get under the deck. It's held in with screws, so it's not that time consuming. I have a todo item to make it more easily removable.

    I'm a/b to do this same project & will also be purchasing from HD. The recommended 1" screws come in a 12pk that's kinda pricey IMO. I found 3/4" elsewhere & am wondering if there was an exess of screw on the backside of the work that using 3/4" screw would suffice for this project?

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  2 года назад +2

      In my application, 3/4" would have been just about perfect. Mine stick out quite a bit where I attached the edge pieces only to the lattice. If you're attaching the lattice to a post, the longer ones would be better. There's nothing special about the color matched screws other than the color. Just make sure the screws you choose are Stainless Steel (best) or zinc coated (good)... in other words, exterior rated screws.

      I used black plastic, but landscape fabric would probably be better since it would let water filter through. Gravel would also be an option.

      Sorry about that. I should have explained that in the video. Those are just standard decking boards that they have in stock at Lowe’s. I used the Trex brand, Saddle color. Also they make two types. One with grooves on the sides and one that’s solid on the side. I used the solid type.

      I was going to use this because I live beside a schoolyard and I have want to cover up the fence to give my backyard more privacy. I want to use the lattice that has smaller holes. The price of wood lattice keeps going up and up. Now I’m worried. Would it be okay to use this stuff if I’m not planning on drilling in any places after it’s installed? I had used wood before but the vines keep breaking the wooden lattice. Any advice would be appreciated.

      I wouldn't call it junk... just make sure you understand the pros and cons of each type of material and use the one that's best for you project. You are correct that vinyl products become brittle over time. Even with vinyl siding you will sometimes see homes with a hole in the siding where it's been hit with a rock.

    • @wkim1881
      @wkim1881 3 года назад

      @@LifeHappensLetsFixIt I don’t know what to do. The fence that separates the schoolyard from my backyard is about 70’ long. It is about 12’ high. I want to build a fence 8’ high. The price of lumber this year is insane but the prices Ogden lattice that is currently on the fence is completely falling apart. I’ve saved money to build a new deck and put in this fence but now I’m going to have to do it in some other way. I plan to live in this house for about ten years and I want to enjoy the yard without having kids stare at me as if I’m in a zoo. There is a Virginia creeper growing on part of the fence but it doesn’t cover the most exposed part. Will the vinyl lattice be okay for at least ten years?
