      Last week I’ve planted 4 dwarf trees, apple pear plum and fig. They in year 2 so hoping over next few years we will have some lovely fruit. Only paid £8 a tree from a lady moving from her allotment to another space and didn’t wanna take everything. So have put them in huge builders buckets and put some homemade wood chip in the bottom so that can break down and feed the soil and then over 100L of compost in each one. Just hope they grow well.

    I assume you are in jolly old England. I'm in New England; Maine to be specific, where we haven't warmed up enough for me to have a real go at my last year garden's clean up. I have raked a huge pile of dead grass to be burned in the middle, but it's still rainy +not quite suitable for a safe burn. I still have to dig a wide trench around the pile so it doesn't jump further than I can handle it. Lots to do. I planted 60 tulip starts this week, but the garden will have to be broken up with a tractor +hood up into long rows before I plant. I thought our New England state of Maine wasn't similar to your climate. You must be located in the Southern part of England, huh?

    • @GrowVeg
      @GrowVeg  Год назад +1

      Hi Carol. Sounds like a challenging start to the season for you over there. Yes, I am indeed in the south of England, in the Cotswolds. Things are finally warming up a bit here. Happy gardening for this season. :-)

      @@GrowVeg Thank you dear sir.
      Yes, I haven't been able to do any more in the Garden yet . It's been cool for the most part. We'll have a few more days of this chilly wet weather before much can be done. We have had 4+a half inches of rain in less than 2
      days. My wheelbarrow was an inch from the top filled with sky drippings. 🌧 I have some lovely daffodils + some tulips, but we just realized that deer have chewed alot of the leaf buds off from our fruit trees. I had a fence around my last year's planted esparagus crowns , so this year I'm happy to say I've sampled some of the shoots + they are quite tasty. Nothing beats fresh picked esparagus steamed for me. Do you have a favorite vedgie? We also love Swiss chard. Can't wait to get a burn permit so the dead grass can be burned off the garden +I can get the peas in. I like to start few seeds early just in case it warms up sooner, but most often we can't have good success until after Memorial day at the end of this month. I googled up the Cotswalds. There are such an interesting lot of cottages there.
      We've lived in Wales, Maine for 45 years my whole married life. My husband has lived here all 66+ yrs of his life. His ancestors have been farming in the same spot for over 170 years here in Wales. When Princess Diana passed away, my husband complimented me by saying there was only one princess of Wales left, indicating me. I thought that was the sweetest thing he ever said to me. My brother did a genealogy on my father's side + found we were distant relatives of the Spencer's in Diana's ancestry on her father's side. I mourned her death like such a large part of England + the whole world. She was our favorite royal. Well, I hope you can get your garden going "great guns" soon. I love your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍 You certainly have a green thumb as they tell me I do, + I have pretty good success with my garden, even tho I'm getting too arthritic at 67 for much weeding. Plus I have 13 baby chicks on the way this week, so taking on more this year than ever before. I have 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Black Australorps, 3 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 2 Light Brahmas, +2 Silver Wyandottes pullet chicks.
      I've always loved chickens + gardening since I was a little girl.
      Learned to enjoy them from my Dad, John Wood. His people originated from Wales , England.
      My Dad's grandfather brought his father over on a small ship, + we lived in Sabattus all of our lives. I was told that one of the Queens in England lost a baby + sent scouts to find a baby +one of my ancestors was asked to offer their baby to be raised as the queen's son. I assume it was a true story, but the request was denied for my ancestor to become an adopted royal, regardless. I was yery young when I heard of this account, so I don't recall knowing enough to ask for any specifics so I only vaguely remember what I was told. I wish I had gotten more info on that , as I find it entriguing now to think it must be true, because my ancestors were very seriously honest folk that were known for their sincere honesty. My Dad was an ultra extremely moral + honest man, so I have no reason to doubt any facts that he mentioned. He always spoke proudly of our ancestry of England. I always thought I'd like to visit England, but with the world so uncertain now , I doubt I would dare fly overseas. That's another reason I'm so fond of your videos; I feel an ancestroral tie to the U.K. I adore your accent +sense of humor. Jolly good show !👍
