Professor Jay is in session.... I believe I can obtain my Associate's in 2JZ just by watching these vids, there is always more than one little thing. Experience
I really love informative videos like these. People don’t show you these kinds of tricks at all unless you work at a performance shop. Thanks Jay, you are the man.
I never comment on youtube vids, but I have say Jay you may have saved my engine. Doing a refresh rebuild on my 4agze, brand new oil pump from aisin. I decided to inspect my pump and to my surprise the relief valve in fact seized inside and the gears are bone dry. Had to use some heat and force on the cylinder to get it out. Had some corrosion on the piston and walls. Cleaned it up with some scotch brite lubed up the piston, cylinder and gears. Everything now functions properly.
Damn... I just built a 1uz got a new oil pump and didnt think to check that it was pre lubed or not. now I gotta pull off all the accessories, covers and oil pan for piece of mind lol
Good video, when I did my 2JZ motor, the new oil pump had a decent bit of corrosion at the seat of the oil bypass. The Rotor area had some debris as well. Always pull apart your new pump.
Bought an impact phillips head size 3 socket for the backing plate. attached it to a breaker bar.....stripped one, got one off then on the third one it broke the end of the phillips head...lucky it was just a practice pump...
Nice video guy's I made a SST for fitting the front main seal on the 2J at SRD Tuning that work's amazing. Keeps it totally parallel and fits it to the correct depth every time will ping you over a picture as sometimes when you need to do a front main seal in a car that has a rock hard seal that's leaking from being 25years old it makes it effortless. Also I'm on the same opinion as you I've never had any issues with the front seal being pushed out in over 60 2jz engines I've built over the years. Will always be a incorrectly fitted item from someone else or punched in to far or a oil pump that is scored up badly 👍 Build them right there always perfect
Try sometimes brakecleaner to "lubricate" those seals, makes rubber slippery for moment and makes them stick in place like nothing else when evaporates.
Really insightful! I might just do this inspection to my 4AGE 20 Valve Blacktop oil pump as preventative maintenance. Not that it needs it but while I get in there for new rings and the front main I may as well give it a shot. Thank you Dr. Jay :)
Grease must be applied on the inner sealing face/lip. Oil or in this case assembly lube is not what is needed to stay inside that sealing cavity created between the crankshaft and the seal lip. Remember that during normal operation oil DOES NOT make it passed the seal to lubricate it. This why you need to grease the lip. Many seals arrive with grease applied for this reason.
Would it hurt using a little bit of assembly grease instead of silicone spray on the outside of the front main seal to seat it into the pump? Or am I asking for a problem doing that?
Great Video! Love the detail and it was easy to follow. Jay, what do you think of modifying / machining the oil pump channels for better oil flow? Seen a lot of JZ guys do that...
@@G.J.G.P. Well no but logic does dictate that if you have the same thing, doing the same job of a similar design and you make it beefier it'll be stronger

Is porting the 2jz oil pump recommended? I purchased a brand new B16 Honda oem oil pump for my B series build. As soon as it was delivered to my address I forwarded the oil pump directly to 4P Piston Racing for there full mod work up. Would you recommended 2jz owners do the same?
I guess we aren’t going to just give away alll the pump porting mods for free today LOL Also, I’m surprised to see you guys aren’t using fipg. I know I’ve heard people swear by Hondabond but Fuji glue is a first for me
so does this mean that the supposed "jz pump gear failure" in recent years is just due to no pre lubing and checking of relief valve?. if so that defeats the whole new fad of the prp pump gears for "2jz oil pump failure" that never used to exist
I don’t have a 2jz.. I just like hearing jay explain stuff
Most of his videos show tips that can be used for almost any engine build/assembly.

Looks like I’m pulling my oil pump off and re-doing it 😅
Thanks for making these videos guys

Amen to that, pcv and valve cover vents should be OPEN to let that crankcase breathe free especially under boost.

Jay you should do a video priming the oil system for first start!!

What grease or lube do you recommend using? Looks like permatex ultra-slick engine assembly lube
I’ve spent HOURS, on these awesome vids. Good stuff brotha. Can we get a discussion on the freeze plugs? Those look epic
Jay do you recomend a O ring on the oil pressure spring Bolt?
Would it hurt using a little bit of assembly grease instead of silicone spray on the outside of the front main seal to seat it into the pump? Or am I asking for a problem doing that?
Would a ported pump be necessary compared to a non ported for high power goals?

Wow, the 2jz oilpump gears are massive, compared to any rb26 aftermarket pump/ gears
There’s a reason RB’s have oil pump issues and 2JZ’s dont
@@lomfmur yeah, enlarge everything on the engine infinitely to avoid every circumstance. Thats the universal answer to everything.

All your video are very informative how about doing a vw golf 1 engine build never saw you do one as i am vw freak thanks keep up the good videos

how do you feel about Toyota Black FIPG for the pump/pan?

Do you polish the crank shaft or use a new one before reassembling?
Great video, thank you

What purple freez plugs and oil plugs are those
Mazworks freeze plugs and he had oil galley balls removed and tapped. It’s just a purple all head bolt.
AE86 was notorious for oil pump failures
What kind of core plugs are those?

Torque specs for all the stuff you torqued please.
Listed in the video, I had to rewatch, look at the top/sides they're in green writing
Sine drive my friends. RB guys been doing it for years... Not Spline
Can one send their new oil pump to real st for this service to be performed?
Sorry, we do not offer this service but PHR (Performance house racing) does.
Badass video
You said the torque specs were on the screen did I miss them 😢? Please add to the top
nice tip
Did you build that on the dark side of the moon?
I was thinking about doing this until you said we'd have to take the engine out of the engine bay and also remove the top oil pan. Damn.
Massive oil pump gears. The 4G63's oil pump is tiny compared to this.
How much oil pressure would it make if that bypass was not working correctly? What would you consider excessive oil pressure on a 2jz?
1832 lbs at 4500 rpm.....

Thats a ford fe 390 oiling system. Nearly identical, pump and all. Its why the sbc is superior, imo.

I sold my 2jz for 20k and got. Gen 2 coyote 🔥🔥🔥
Why sleeve??
What is namd of purple of block
Those are Mazworx freeze plugs. The block is machine and the plugs screw in.
