‘Hell On Wheels’: The Ohio Teen Who Killed Her Boyfriend and Friend in a Deadly 100mph Crash

- On July 31st, 2022 around 5:30am, 19-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally accelerated her Toyota Camry at full throttle into the Plidco Building in Strongsville, Ohio. The high-speed crash killed her 20-year-old boyfriend Dominic Russo and his 19-year-old friend Davion Flanagan, who was a backseat passenger. Security video showed Shirilla's vehicle rapidly accelerating down the street and slamming into the brick building without any attempt to brake.

Prosecutors argued this was an intentional act meant to end Shirilla's tumultuous relationship with Russo. A forensic mechanic testified that the car's data recorder showed the accelerator pedal pressed to 100% with no braking in the moments before impact. In June 2024, Shirilla was convicted of 12 counts including murder and sentenced to two consecutive 15 years to life prison terms by Judge Nancy Russo, who stated Shirilla's actions were "controlled, methodical, deliberate, intentional and purposeful" on a "mission of death and destruction."

I don’t get the judge. She said she doesn’t believe the maximum sentence would be “appropriate” yet is “confident” that the parole board will keep her locked up? If she believes that she deserves to be locked up for life, then DO SO. What she did was defer to others what she herself had the power to guarantee right then and there. She didn’t say it out loud, but the sentence essentially amounts to letting Kenzie have “another chance.”
Exactly! I thought the same thing when she said it... it didn't make sense!
Yeah, this judge shouldn’t be re-elected whenever her term is up…ridiculous! 😡
Because she's a coward. She doesn't want to face any possible backlash for harshly sentencing this "pretty girl" killer so she's just hoping that a future parole board will do her job! And those social media posts from her were so telling... that she doesn't have a care in the world and has an "oh well, life just moves on" attitude. Judge knows she will not have a smooth tenure so she won’t be eligible for parole. She’s trying to give her opportunity to grow but doubtful she will. Super frustrating for grieving parents, agreed.
Judge knows murderers dont get paroled very often. Early parole are for thievery and drug dealing.
In this case judge wasn’t tough enough. The sentences should have been consecutive not concurrent. Judge can’t think this defendant is unlikely to be paroled in 15 years.
I'm surprised they gave her that. Remember the affluenza yt boy he killed those kids and they let him walk because he had no control over his actions he didn't know what he was doing 🙄

YES! Does that work with push button start cars? Will Pushing the button turn them off while the gas pedal is engaged and at high speed? Hand brake is a great idea. Did they have seatbelts on? I haven’t watched the whole trial.
She should’ve at least been sentenced to 65 years to life for each person and consecutive. One year for every year that they were cheated out of for an average life span. (and for victims over 30 nothing less than 50 years to life. Because old people are no less valuable than young people. )
I know she claims to have no memory about the accident, but what was her reason for planning to un-alive them? Did she catch him cheating or something ?(not to say there is any reason/excuse for ever doing that to someone .)
Were there not additional charges for endangering the lives of other people on the road and in the building?
i dont think she's capable of remorse. She was partying a few months after she killed them. A true narcissist.
You're assuming that this Mackenzie chick has a conscience, she's probably a lot more worried about who's jealous of what she's wearing and how popular she is rather than agonizing over having killed her "friends."
I don't disagree. She demonstrates every narcissistic trait in the book.@@devilsoffspring5519

A pathetic sentence. Really. What a useless judge.
What she did is plain cruel and vile she needs to be in prison for life
Judge went easy on her. Sentences should have been consecutively. Should've never given credit for time served given that the sentences were concurrent.
But she is cute and she cried? Clearly the charges should have been dropped. Poor thing.
@@yooted99With how people are nowadays I couldn't tell if this is sarcasm or straightforward 😅
UGH!! Get a load of the AIN'T💩 girl's Mother who seemed to lack empathy. Saying, "Okay?" while reading the letter to the judge 🤌🏽 I mean her Mother should've just STFU. Asking for mercy for her psychotic daughter while the other families have NOTHING to beg sympathy for other than a life sentence. The audacity! She'll be out in minimum 20. At that point, the families will need to band together to beg that she isn't released. This is all so sad
Amen
That was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. She was on something or needs to be on something
It’s completely clear where this brat gets her behaviour from.
Well done Mum. You did a fantastic job of teaching your daughter responsibilities.
Now these poor families will pay with their lives for your shortcomings
God bless them
It's not the mothere fault. That girl is the one responsible for murder. It doesent matter If a kid is raised perfectly if they decide to rebell they will do it.
@@dustygatrell-ru7tg so you don’t believe we are to a large degree the product of our parents?
Absolutely the daughter is responsible however when the mum acts this way in my opinion she shows she has not parented this child to a degree of responsibility- instead victimhood which is unacceptable. And it has manifested into this situation of utter sadness. In a nutshell be responsible and teach your children morals
Mackenzie isn’t even crying..she’s just blinking to try to force tears
I noticed that just as I saw your comment
This was a terribly sad situation, god bless the families involved and let justice be served.
too bad it wasn't she was only really punished for one of the murders i guess the other was just a free bee.
Concurrent is bs. Sorry, thats bs. Those two boys deserve more than 15 years. And no I do not believe she'll serve much beyond that, not at the rate our jails and parole board are letting people out due to over crowding and lack of funding. This brat will be out within 20 years, you mark my word. This is not good enough. She sentenced them to death and their family to a life of despare, the least the judge could have done is make the counts consecutive. This is just appauling.
How about 30 years for each life she took?
@@pjk3854 How about life for each life she took? I dunno, it was hardly an accident. It seems more like criminal negligence causing death and that's probably why she won't do much time.
That was a very light sentence for someone who killed two people. That was a soft judge who didn’t care about the lives of the two people killed by that murderer. Shame on the judge. I feel sorry for the two families who lost their sons.
She is pretty so the sentence is appropriate to her appearance
@@enjoyandplaysadly probably true
What are you talking about? She's has a life sentence. She's only eligible for parole once she has served 15 years. The judge even believes she will NOT get out in 15 years.
@@sarahmelissa4253her sentences run concurrently, do u know what that means? If they’d run consecutively, she wouldn’t have been eligible for parole for 30 years. She didn’t get the proper punishment, but women generally get lesser punishments so it has legal precedent.
@@sarahmelissa4253 Do you know what will happen at the parole hearing in 15 years? I don't so I consider the sentence the minimum guaranteed which is 15 years. The mother was so cold hearted. That was no apology.

as much as i hate to say this because i know a lot of people are going to destroy me for it she has what i call female privilege women get a lot less time in prison then a man for the same crime more times then not. i knew a guy that was killed by a drunk driver and the driver got 10 years for involuntary manslaughter while a woman kills a guy by giving him a hot shot got 8 months for the same charge that's not what i would call justice.
Jugde said it was murder. She murdered two people. Must be horrible for the wictims families. The third wictim was serioulsy injured. She tried to murder 3 people..
That mother is something else 🤦🏻♀️
My condolences 💐 to both families ❤
Some people may have been more willing to forgive her if this was an accident. But she has a clear history of overindulgence. Being young doesn’t make us exempt from punishment. :/
She’s the type to do all those theatrics and cry and when she’s alone she goes “those peasants fell for it haha”. 💅🏼

I don't think there are any tears either. She looks like she's crying but there aren't real tears

Judging by her good look she should be found not guilty
The fact that she could snap like that means she’s an extremely dangerous person. I really hope she’s locked up closer to life than 15 years. That’s an unstable, seriously dangerous human being.
Agreed, the fact she was willing to intentionally kill people close to her at a young age is evil
It's a womans prison, she'll essentially be on a vacation without having to pay bills. She'll be out by 30 years old and most likely kill again, american justice system 🤦♂️

i was deeply depressed for a while and had no will to live. but at no point did i ever consider putting anyone, especially my loved ones, in harm’s way.
Sorry to here that 🥺 and that u posted this. I hope ur life is going better. 🙏🏽
That mother is beyond disgusting. Not only did she continue to allude to a "the crash", or a "tragedy that happened" - as if it were somehow an act of God rather than a pre-meditated deliberate act, but she persisted, at least twice, in referring to this "accident". Quite clearly, she refuses to acknowledge either her daughter's actions or her guilt, presumably to try and absolve herself from the need to confront the fact that she nurtured such a callous, narcissistic, arguably borderline-psychopathic child.
Exactly‼️✅
*BINGO!*
People are blinded by love. You are exhibiting the tendencies you wish to place on the mother.
@umma.2870yeah I agree. She has her own mind she chose to do that herself. The mom didn't force her to do it. It's all on the girl.
When Mackenzie’s mother addressed with anger and the way she said “ Okay “ it seems not sincerely and no empathy at all
Right its like she's basically saying " look she didn't mean to kill those boys Okay " 😒
Wow, seeing this girl's mom - notably a totally disturbed woman - I imagined what kind of childhood this girl might have had, and - no apologies for what she's done and respecting the families' pain - I felt sorry for her. 😢
The mothers comments to the families and the court was absolutely shocking and appalling!!!

The sentence shouldn't have been concurrent. They should've been consecutive. Seeing that she was still going to Halloween parties and concerts... This girl deserves a lot more than what she got. Her tearless cries, her moms lack of sympathy and saying "Ok" after every statement like that is final... I'm just disgusted she didn't get more thrown at her.
Her mother is a really good actor . Unbelievable.
How her lawyer let her choose to go with a bench trial is mind boggling.
it's very simple female defendant female judge perfect storm and it worked she got the possibly the lightest sentence of alltime for two murders kill two people get punished for one not a bad deal if i do say so myself
It’s not up to the lawyer. It’s always always gonna be the clients decision. Their job is to be their attorney and fight for their choice in what they want to do. If it worked as tho lawyers could decide how to proceed. #1 falsely accused would be screwed bc most will want to take a plea and take the easy way out. But more importantly there would be tons and tons of appeals bc lawyers made the choice for their client. We’re in America. Home of the free. Which means that we as American citizens has rights that should never be violated no matter what we’re accused of doing. That’s why justice for someone like this girl is so important. She made a choice and should now suffer the consequences of her actions. She will only get out in 15yrs if she dramatically grows up and turns it around. Otherwise parol board won’t let her out. 😊
@@lilm6259 all that is true but she committed two pre meditated murders which is what makes this sentence so despicable a man would've gotten consecutive life sentences plus extra time for the other 10 charges. i bet if someone had the balls to investigate this judge they would find she has a history of bias for women. she is a despicable human being she basically let this girl off the hook for one of those two murders.
@@danielcorreard3746 But with a jury, she might have swayed one or two of them to believe her “I didn’t MEAN to kill them; it was an ACCIDENT” story, with her sad, little girlish face and teary-eyed demeanor, and end up with a hung jury. What women are you talking about?
Accountability doesn’t come easily to some. Some never, ever learn what it is. Unfortunately, not every one has that luxury.
IMO she has no remorse because she's selfish, and that's on her mother. I bet she ran her house. Her mother said she didn't want her to be called a murder online and have nasty things said about her. Her mom tried to shut it down. What agency would want a murderer representing them?

I disagree with the Judge. There were two other people responsible for that crime her Parents. The way she was raised was a direct result of what happened. They should have been punished too. Lazy parenting caused this girl to be vindictive and manipulative and have no regard for her actions.
It speaks volumes when even one of the cops in the background is trying his best not to shed a tear.
