I’m not using the prompts. Nor posting online. I’m working on a book and will be printing in black and white so it’s an excellent opportunity to prep and attempt to get one illustration for the book done each day. I’m prepping before October now. So reference, thumbnail sketches, designs and even the pencils as well as picking the ink and prepping plans on how I will be inking. More research and inking practice in the lead up as well!
I actually like this year's prompts. They go with an unrealized collection from a Colorado Rockies camping trip in Summer 2018. But I'm also feeling inspired to go renegade and create my own prompt list and use other media. It'll be interesting to see which way everyone goes and the resulting posts. 💖
Good luck with it! I use other media such as watercolour too. The Colorado camping trip sounds like a vibe 😍 you could definitely take inspiration from that and make it into your own sort of travel sketchbook journal!
I'm looking forward to it,🥰🥰 i have not drawn since February so I'm starting today with a simple drawing. I've participated in the Inktober challenge these past two years with a small pocket sketchbook and i will try to and make bigger drawings each day.🎃🎃🦇
Loved this, subscribed immediately. Do you take channel requests: would you please do one on artists and tutorials you’ve followed/found useful here on RUclips? Would really like to know more about your process. It seems realistic and accessible and not so scary/unapproachable. Love your energy and vibes. More power to you and the channel ❤ I love how you noted down which tute it was in the corner of your sketch, so useful, implementing immediately!!!
Oh thank you so much, this made my day!☺️ I’m glad you think so. I try not to stress about making the art look realistic and perfect. As long as I capture the essence and character whilst I’m enjoying the process then I’m happy with it. My current favourite RUclips art channels are Cao Becky, I love how she sketches her everyday life, even the ordinary things. She is a big inspiration to me. I also enjoy watching Taria’s sketchy adventures and koosje koene on RUclips for useful tips, they have a very easy going and accessible style too. I’ll be making some process videos during inktober!
@@palspaints Thank you so much for your response, I’ve screenshotted your comment and will go check out those channels for sure. I’m still learning the basics. Best of luck for Inktober and I’ll sure keep an eye out for your vlogs. Lots of love and respect ❤️👍🏼
Thank you☺ oh i get you! Hopefully it's more of an enjoyable stress releiver rather than inducing stress. If you're having fun and even improve just slightly then its a win. All the best to you too!
It would have been nice to incorporate some autumnal things too. I was hoping go sketch some pumpkins, hot drinks, crunchy leaves ect. I’ll see if I can try to incorporate some of them in these prompts. All the best with your process and have fun too!
I know you've mentioned watercolor but i only have one ink pen and a small ink bottle. Which may be running out a bit. Does it count if you use regular ballpoint pens for each drawing? I may have to save for new art supplies at some point for next month. Im planning on participating for inktober again this year.
@@ms.ladybird yes a ballpoint uses ink too so it definitely does count! You can still create amazing art with it and don’t have to get new materials. In a way it helps you be more creative and experimental to work with what you already have. Good luck!
I’m going to try and do it this year but I’m not excited about the list. There just too many words that basically mean the same thing. Hopefully I’m wrong and it will turn out well! Thanks for the tips. I bought that fountain pen after watching the video.
@@khalidramzi you’re right, trek, hike and ridge could all be interchangeable art work. I’m going to try to use it to my advantage and see it as practice for drawing mountains and landscapes. You’re in for a treat with that fountain pen! It’s a game changer. Good luck for inktober
@@Amanita._.Verosa._. Yes, I found an alternative one called pulptober I might try. So I'll begin with both and see which one I enjoy more and take it from there.
Haha it’s irked a few people before! 🫢 It’s got an angled nib so different angles give different line thicknesses. The back of it is the thinnest but you have to be careful not to press too hard
So I have a question this will be my first inktober I am a beginner artists and my Drawing skills are not where I want them to be my drawing sometimes don't always turn out the way I want them to so my question is does your drawing level matter for this challenge or does not matter? I'm also very interested in ink that's something I've been gravitating to but my inking skills are still in the beginner stages I'm a little nervous whether to do it or not so I thought I'd ask for any advice if you have some?
The challenge is for everyone and for you to enjoy so don’t worry about creating perfect pieces of work each time. You can use inktober as a way to practice drawing and get better. We improve with consistency so just enjoy the journey and it’ll happen naturally 😊 If you don’t feel confident with ink then you can do light pencil sketches first and then go over it with any form of ink, even just a simple ballpoint pen can work wonders, it’s up to you whichever kind of ink you want to use.
I disagree: In previous years some of the prompts were very narrow because some were very concrete, for example spider or toad or chains or even booger! I really didn't want to spend hours of my precious time drawing ugly things. This year they are very open and you can do almost anything with them, for example you can discover literally anything, in a journal you can write or draw literally anything. The same with binocular: you can see and watch almost anything.
The problem for me isn’t that there two broad or narrow but that the prompts are so similar to each other. For example there are Trek Hike and Expedition. These are pretty similar.
@@malachibaird6877 I see what you mean. On the other hand that inspired me to theme the prompts together to a story that does involve quite a bit of travelling. In 2022 there were several rather abstract prompts which I didn't know how to handle. Which was why I chose a different list of prompts (Mosstober). Later when I saw what other people did with the Jake-Parker-prompts, it seemed so obvious and not so hard at all. And I regretted doing the other list because hardly anyone else did. And part of the fascination of Inktober is to see the huge variety of ideas people come up with. Now when the prompt doesn't quite fit, I bend it a bit - or a lot. For example I made "trek" to "track".
Trek / Wagon trail Hike / solo discovery Expedition / sponsored scientific group being sent to a specific place. Absolutely travel is involved in all these things, but for very different reasons.
I know it’s typically done in ink but by all means you can put your own spin on it too! So go ahead and use procreate if that’s the medium you like. I add watercolors to mine because that’s my preference 😊
To be honest I'm a new artist and to be honest I feel like the list isn't very inspiring for me. I've locked myself into doing "Inktober" and doing the list for my new channel but to be honest next year I'm either going to do a different prompt list or create my own way beforehand. It just seems like there is a huge missed opportunity to have at least a few prompts based around Halloween or fall specifically
It's up to you what you make of it. This year the prompts are very open! In 2022 I didn't know what to do with many of the Jake Parker prompts because they were partly too specifically what I didn't want to draw (like booger, bad dog, armadillo or ego). And I did a different list where I had many more ideas what to do with the prompts. But I realized: One big thing of Inktober in contrast to just doing your own thing is to look what other people make of the prompt. Doing a list 3 million other people are doing at the same time and still everyone has a different take on it - that's thrilling. This year I'm doing the official list, because the prompts are open enough to create my own story with them. I'm very much looking forward to that.
I like this year's prompts. In the past they've been so hard and end in frustration and giving up
I agree! I also couldn't commit to it in the previous years because of this. they're much more straight forward this year so lets see!
Happy Inktober ❤
