An extraordinarily talented player who on her day was unbeatable, she had her off days too which never seemed to bother her too much. But talent she had perhaps more than any other woman player of her generation. I saw her at Wimbledon and was mesmerized by her artistry and will never forget her semi final against Tracy Austin at Wimbledon in 1980 or her semi final in 1973 against Billie Jean King at Wimbledon - her touch was breathtaking and her imagination in the structuring of game points was unrivaled. She didn't have the driven motivation of Evert or the dedication of King - there are those players who work hard at being great, with hours and hours of practice, mental and physical preparation etc and there are a handful who given a rare talent and that makes them great. Evonne was a rare and precious talent.
@Illya Kuryakin Yes. Standing up against bigotry and ignorance of Ms. Court as a person, not her tennis achievements. Billie Jean King and Evonne Goolagong deserve praise and credit for their work off as well as on the Court. Margaret does not.
11 Grand Slams...4 Aus Open..1 French Open...2 Wimbledon...4 US Open....plus 12 Grand Slam double titles.....Goolagong a true Australian great
My all-time favorite player - I miss watching her grace, speed, and talent.
What a fantastic and deserved honor for Evonne Goolagong. Why didn't she get to speak? And can they now rename Margaret Court Arena after her?

That's beautiful and very true .. Evonne effortless artistry!
Beautiful comments.
What an amazing ambassador for the game. The stadium should bear her name.
She is succeeded by ash Barty. We owe a lot to these ambassadors who have championed this brand of tennis
What an honor!
Well done! She is a legend sportswoman!!
Congratulations to Evonne. A class act, unlike a certain other female tennis player from Australia.

Evonne is “Grace personified.”
May we please have the 1974 AO final Goolagong V Evert
Serena, Evonne and Chrissie...my favorites...
Dame Evonne GoolaGong Cawley
Much deserved and long overdue but they could have a least let her say a few words.
It’s too bad they didn’t let her speak
she's very modest and probably didn't want to
why dont her and latrell get on?
