    Eddie dances in the video on 2-3-4 & 6-7-8. Pay attention to the pum-pam either 8 or 4 and he puts his foot down! And everything is logical - this is a dance on two and six, as in the Cuban son!!

    It is funny to see how INCOHERENT the video is. The first part of the video clearly says that on beats 4 and 8 the foot is UP IN THE AIR, and it doesn't touch the floor until five. And the smiley dancers later don't do that. They just don't. They put the foot on the floor on 4 and 8, and do the pause on 5 and 1. Hilarious. And this is Eddie Torres approved. I can't believe it.

      En efecto, Eddie Torres no termina de entender el conteo del contratiempo. En la parte de la pareja bailando cuando ya se escucha la conga, están utilizando el contratiempo, es decir, pisan en cuatro y ocho donde se escucha el doble de la conga cu-cu. El problema es que sus seguidores nunca lo han terminado e entender y defienden, con argumentos inverosímiles, esta inconsistencia.

    • @ETiDeQuenVesSendo
      @ETiDeQuenVesSendo 4 года назад +3

      you're right. I haven't seen the whole video but they are dancing what I think it's called Palladium Style. They are clearly steping on the first beat of the conga, the 8s and the 4s.

    • @Jowanson33
      @Jowanson33 4 года назад +4

      I noticed the same. Eddie Torres style you step on 1-2-3 & 5-6-7 as explained, and dancers are stepping on those counts when they are showing some moves, eg. Suzie Q, Cuban step, w/e. BUT when they are doing the basic steps, they are stepping on 2-3-4 & 6-7-8 which is the classic Palladium style afaik. For a beginner this might get quite confusing very fast.
      Just want to add I'm in no way dissing on Eddie and on his style, as I love his On2 style. It's just strange that they left it like this on an instructional video when it's clearly noticeable.

      @@Jowanson33 Well... I don't really know if we should revise this "on 2 style" entirely and face reality: do people ever dance like the theory says in real salsa floors?

      @neuropakho As a matter of fact: unfortunately yes, they (we) do! Here in The Netherlands (and in other countries in Europe) that is still the way many/most dance schools teach On2 to this day. Very confusing, but I'm glad people are starting to notice the conflict.

    Eddie Torres NY Style On2 -> 1,2,3...5,6,7
    Mambo / Son / Palladium / Power 2 -> 2,3,4...6,7,8
    That's it. It's not wrong, it's another way of stepping the 2. Eddie Style makes easier dance on2 for the people that don't find the 2 in the music, so it always starts with 1, like melody.
    The problem with this video is when Eddie explains and dances, he counts and dance like NY Style. But when a colorful couple appears making a demo, they are dancing mambo, not Eddie Style. So it's confusing.

    unfortunately, the way Eddie Torres is teaching how to dance Mambo,it wasn't the way you learnt in Cuba or El Barrio,here in Harlem. It was preceded, before the 5 steps of Joe Piro. There was a difference between the way Anibal Vazquez Joe,(Mambo Ases) show dancing, and the rest of the dancers. In a crowded pista, you can't dance,the way that it been taught in this video.The space requires to dance that way is ludicrous.Back to the forty , in those days,and I think Mr.Torres, is not familiar with dancing Ladrillo style,en un Ladrillito.The ideal was to dance without taking to much space. Well, here it seems that the lady is leading the man.In Cuba,the man lead with the left foot forward,Clave Son, 3/2 or 2/3. The Man en guaperia is Macho.Here in this video,the guy dance with effeminate mannerisms..(paloma)....There were others way to follow the Clave -rhythmic pattern, with The Seco/Tapao of the tumbadoras. The Contrabajo(Double Bass) Los Bongoes,La Botija,ect..Soy,what it was called "Tiger" hick,My grammar is not that good.Ache'

      This is true about swing - Lindy Hop....really about a lot of dances-- where the reality is that you have much less space on the dance floor. The left foot back for the lead is standard salsa on 2. Last I heard Eddie Torres is teaching salsa on 2, danced here in NYC, not Cuba. There are certainly plenty of very good salsa on 1 items on RUclips...why don't you go watch one of them?

    • @hectornegron9155

      Times change. One of the reasons what we call salsa went all over the world and dancing schools surfaced all over the world (including non-Spanish speaking countries like Japan and Italy to name a few), was because it was different to the way it was done in Cuba before the Cuban Revolution. When the traditional Cuban music was married to the North American Jazz sounds, played mainly although not exclusively by Puerto Rican musicians and other rhythms came into the mix, everything naturally changed as it should have been expected. Evolution is the word.
