Paul McCartney remains one of, if not the single greatest singer/songwriter/musician/composer/producer/ performer of the 20th and 21st Centuries. If not of all time. And a heckuva' great person. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times over the years and you couldn't ask for a nicer, jovial, friendly, and more personable individual. I think he got it just right. The first third of the song is subdued-almost melancholy and his soft, almost sparse bass line reflects that. The middle third is harder, a little more intense and his bass line takes a little harder edge. He lets the orchestra and guitar take the bridge into the last third unassisted and then he shifts into the more melodic bass line with the flow of the escape run. The song has three or four different tones and intensities and he supports each one ideally.
