    The KLR is the most adequate bike ever made. It does everything just well. It is one of my favorite bikes and truly is the tractor of the bike world. You can never go wrong with a KLR.

    "I could probably make it through there....hmmm i dunno.... ahhh fuck it." says every KLR rider ever. Could be faster, could be lighter, could have more gadgets, but then it wouldn't be the KLR unicorn. My KLR has never let me down.

    the KLR 650 represents the bare minimum for any motorcycling task outside of racing. It kind of annoys my friends that only have one motorcycle and zero desire to get another one. they go riding on their street bikes "oh my god we arnt waiting for your slow ass dirt bike" ,they never ride that fast anyway. they go dirt bike riding "oh my god we arnt helping you get that heavy ass motorcyle out of the mud", we never ride anything that technical. its the perfect bike for most people skill level weather or not they want to admit it.

    I had an '05 KLR and loved it!
    I used to do the same on those backroads / closed roads ..."F' it!" That's the only way to ride and see the things most people will never see. Enjoy!!

    I've been riding my KLR for a couple of years now and I totally agree with you. I do have other street motorcycles but I have started to get into trail and BDR style riding so I bought the KLR and have found that it has all the features you need to make it across the mapped trails and the Interstate highway it took to get there. It's rugged, reliable, expendable but unkillable. There are tons on the secondhand market and the aftermarket is expansive.

    I did the exact same thing. 09 klr and I'm having a blast. Having fun fixing it up and adding technology. Perfect mix of capability, versatility, and longevity. Also in texas. Using OsMand to load up gpx files from klr groups and adv groups.

    I bought my 2008 brand new in Oct. 2007 for $4200 in Oregon. I'm 71, my 15 year old KLR650 still runs real good, sounds great! with it's Super Trap muffler, rejetted the carb back in 08 never have had the carb off since, she aways has started, never broken down on me. adjust the valves ever 10k miles, oil changes ever 2k miles. I ride alot over in the shade of Osceola NF. Enjoy,

    Twenty-eight motorcycles and three KLR’s. Currently have a j2023 KLRs and like it more than my 2004 & 2008 models. Though I did like the 2004. I’m older now and like the lower S.

    I too was inspired by Itchy boots but I bought the Himalayan. After three years I traded it for a KLR. There is nothing wrong with a Himalayan. It is great for gravel and trails but in North America we have to deal with a lot of pavement. The KLR is much better for this.

    I had an 04 model with the little box speedo tach combo. I think that the last gen carburetted models have the best instrumentation. The new injected models are nice, but the tachless digital unit is soulless.

    So is the KLR a dual-sport or an adventure bike or a dual-sport /adventure bike?

    • @ShiftyMoto
      @ShiftyMoto  Год назад +4

      That’s the beauty of the KLR! It’s whatever you want or need it to be. I’m definitely not the most skilled rider but I’ve done multi day rides loaded with luggage and gear and I’ve ridden tight single track with the local dual sport crew. It’s just fun.
