I been using Logic for 13 years with my 2009 Mac fiddling about amateurishly without grasping everything and forgetting how I got to places - and how to get out! I used a producer to put my bits together but now need to cut costs and do more myself - for better or for worse. I'm about to get the latest M1 Mac so thought it best to get myself thoroughly well acquainted with how it is now and going forward. Josh .... yours has been, and is, by far the best tutorial anywhere. And more than that, it's up to date. Brilliant presentation!! Thank You!👌
I just found your page and am lost in logic, now I have a full time teacher on youtube who is easy to follow and super clean tutorials slowly giving me the ahhhh moments on things I never knew, small tips on slowly learning the program in giving me confidence! Thank you SOOO MUCH FOR this! You are a great teacher and awesome for just having this resource for everyone! If you are just watching this for the first time SUBSCRIBE iF YOU HAVE LOGIC! This guy has so many tips and is a great teacher!
No kidding - this IS the ultimate guide out there! And this #3 is packed with info. I really like your 'logical' and friendly style with nothing left behind. You are a great teacher. And I have been teaching for 30 years now, so I know one when I see and hear one :-)
Josh, these are fantastic videos. I’ve been using Logic since August and with my experience with Premier and After Effects I’ve been able to “brute force” my way in Logic. But these basic videos are so very helpful and a hundred time easier than trying to use the manual. Thanks again! Can’t wait to watch all of them.
When people like you exists, I still have faith in humanity. Thank you for the time, dedication and passion you are sharing with us. You tutorials are by far the most engaging and straight to the point, well documented and well explained I've found on any daw so far. Thanks you so so much!!!
I spent thousands of dollars buying courses to learn logic but none of those courses are as simple and good as yours, I truly appreciate you doing this, 謝謝 from Taiwan!
Josh, thank you so much for your efforts in recreating your video tutorials. I was literally just talking to my brother about diving into Logic to become a better sound engineer. This could not have come at a better time and I am so excited to watch every video as you release them! You are truly a wonderful teacher.
This is fantastic! I've been looking all around the web for a decent set of Logic tutorials and up until now, they've all pretty much sucked. When it comes to music creation in a DAW, I'm a complete noob. So tired of watching someone mouse around the interface without any context. This guy tells you what he's doing as he's doing it and why. Thank you!!!
Thanks Josh. I'm sure your tutorials are enabling so many artists of the future get started with recording and production. You're making a real contribution to the world of music.
You have no idea how much this series is appreciated, truly thankful for helping me understand logic. You're doing it in a great way as well, it's very easy to follow the steps and learn at the same time! Thank you!
These videos are exactly what I need, so straight forward and easy to understand but also not moving too slowly. Amazing stuff I intend to watch them all thank you so much for making these.
Thank you for updating your series. I always learn something new every time I watch your videos. You have inspired a lot of people with your other videos including me.
Years ago I bought Logic Express and I couldn't get on with it at all. I've just bought Logic pro X and with the help of these videos everything is becoming clear so thank you very much.
At 4:30, when discussing making all tracks the same size, you mention holding down the Shift key and then clicking the divider line. IN ADDITION, you can ALSO hold down the Option key and then click and drag one of the dividers lines, and you can dynamically EQUALLY resize ALL the tracks to whatever size you want. Awesome video series though!
For the past 5 years I've been using wave lab and cubase. I just noticed on my MacBook Pro that Logic Pro is installed. I've never used Logic Pro before so I have to watch all these videos. The setup/layout is kinda like cubase though. I've heard good things about Logic Pro so I'm willing to give it a go.
Have been a fan of your videos for years! Just a quick note- By pressing Option, and clicking and dragging down the track header, you can create a new track, duplicating the settings of that track header, and duplicate the regions associated with it. I find it really helpful. 😊 As always, thanks for your fantastic videos. You are an excellent instructor!
Thank you so much! The effort this must require. so grateful. Will be following along. I watch the entire older series and I'm excited to dig into this one. Much appreciated.
Overall this is a very helpful series. But this #3 episode was like jumping off the high dive platform without learning to swim first. It would have been super helpful to do an overview of the Logic layout, basic terminology, and maybe how to create a track before jumping into a fast-paced tutorial on shortcut commands and adjusting tracks, etc.
Really super. I would have needed it earlier and so would have saved a lot of time. Nevertheless I can learn a lot, e. g. the shortcuts. Will watch #4 tomorrow as I‘m very sleepy now. It’s 00:30. thanks for this series. I‘ll follow this course! 👍🏻
You said clicking the Red for on the stereo in the mixer "clears" the peak/clips when you say clear, is it making the number disappear? or is it actually changing something of that specific section? Thanks so much for this series man. Excited for what I can learn. First time having a Macbook and using logic!
Master fader had me confused. Its likes the Stereo out is your real master fader, and the master fader is like the volume of the app itself. Pretty useful!
Suddenly, in one of my sessions, when I double click a region to open the editor window, the window opened is the DMD editor.😳 This happens no matter what region I try to edit. Any idea as to what is happening and how I could fix this?
Awhile back I saw a video where you showed how to find the key and tempo of a sample, and how to manipulate the sample further. I need to watch that video asap. Can you please post the link to it please. 🙏
With tempo you can try the BPM counter plugin. For key, you can put the tuner on the channel, and it will identify the note(s) in the sample. Best of luck!
Hey Josh, is there a way to search for instances of a region that have been edited and copied throughout an audio track? EX. I've extensively copied and edited a region, "Cymbals", throughout an audio track and now I want to change the 'clip gain' of the region at bar 5 without inadvertently changing any of the other instances.
Clip gain is actually independent on a region by region basis. So you can just use the Gain Tool on that one region, and it will not affect the gain of the other regions.
I already know these but I just go on my business and listen, then suddenly your like "what? wait! what was that lol ill be doing that in the updated part Im sure .
That is a software controlled gain control for my audio interface. Certain audio interfaces, like mine from Apogee, are compatible with some software controls in Logic. So, if I'm recording and I want to turn up the microphone gain, instead of having even touch the hardware, I can use that knob to adjust the mic gain. Not super helpful unless your hardware is in a rack, far away from you, so I usually just use my hardware. But if you're using a USB microphone, this is really helpful as many of them do not have a physical gain control directly on the mic.
In this video I demonstrate the following: 1. How to navigate the main areas in Logic Pro 2. Creating tracks in the tracks area 3. Zoom controls and shortcuts 4. Track solo and mute options 5. Like your tutorial but your demo project doesn’t quite work with my setup. My audio interface is set at 48khz for sampling but your project demo is 44.1khz. Whenever I playback the demo, I have error message pops up to say USB sampling rate mismatch. I am using Mac mini M2 chipset OS Sonoma the latest version, audio interface is Yamaha TF1 digital mixer.
44.1 kHz is usually the starting sample rate for most devices. The sample rate of one of your USB devices is set to 48 kHz. You'll need to do two things: (1) if your USB device (probably an audio interface) has a software control panel, change its sample rate to 44.1 kHz. (2) Go into Logic Pro and go to File > Project Settings > Audio and make sure the sample rate is set to 44.1.
It's extremely unfortunate that I've found your tutorials ... they're very engaging and I find myself watching and re-watching them and then playing with Logic and trying a new things. All instead of doing what I should really be doing, which has absolutely nothing to do with Logic Pro at all :O Shame on you! :)
What I still don't get is why, when I choose my LCD display to show certain things, such as time, tempo, whatever, that I can't seem to customize how many decimal places it shows. For example, look at that monstrosity at 8:53! Tempo with 4 decimal places? The "No in" and "no out" for some reason have to take up way more space than required, the timecode is super long as well. Under "custom", we should be able to adjust everything to our liking. Not everyone will have any issues with this, but as someone with a 13 inch macbook air, I need to conserve as much screen real estate as possible. Even with an external monitor, it's difficult for me, at times. Seriously though, just look at how much dead space is within that LCD ...
Sounds like you just have an issue with your display resolution. Here, I was using a 5K display on my iMac, but you can make the screen elements smaller by going to Apple > System Preferences/Settings > Displays. Then choose one of the options that offers "more space" rathe than "larger text". Hope that helps.
Logic pro should pay you for this. They should buy your course and make them as the tutorials pack.
Then we’d have to pay for it. Let’s just support Josh’s channel. 👌🏼👍🏼
Your absolutely right, other daws have hundreds of videos and tutorials but not Logic
Yep…excellent presentation of information.
You.Are.A.Lifesaver.
Agreed! You are a fabulous teacher!! You break everything down so well!!
This is by far the most useful and engaging logic tutorial series I have found on RUclips. Thank you so much!

yes so true. that's why i've been watching
Same here, there's so much to it that there's always something to learn. I didn't know about shift to adjust all track heights, for example!
Very well explained 👏👏....this series is not less than the masterpiece 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Excellent demonstration.
I just found out that the option you show at 2:31 is no longer available. So now there is only one way of displaying the 'New Tracks dialog'
i confirmed: this was removed in 10.8!
Thanks for the series, much appreciated! Looking forward to future vids. Still figuring out many of the shortcuts to speed up workflow over time.
Your series is fantastic and clearly explains the platform, you studio look s fantastic by the way.
Dang, these are great videos. Found your channel recommended from a reddit forum. Very nice!!

@@MusicTechHelpGuy I do have a usb mic but I’ve never seen this option above the channel strip. Is this in the logic settings?
In the mixer go to "View > Channel Strip Components" and select "Audio Device Controls". That will show it, if it's applicable.
