Brando is just....an absolute genius here. They shyness and tenderness yet underlying charm with which he approaches her......my god, what woman could say no to that
He gives her an egg and releases the bird after she says yes. Love and freedom..In between he tells her how loyal pidgins are. Impressive display of love
Too bad they interrupted his beautiful smile. He was gorgeous and when he was tender and smiled, irresistible😍❤️begging her to go out with him. How could she resist?
This is one of those movie scenes that the music really is absolutely perfect. So few composers can do this type of music anymore, but then very few new movies are designed for Americans only to enjoy. Most are bland things intended for a world market that you don't need to understand English or know the culture to understand the plots.
You make a very interesting point here, still, to some extent, movies dealing with universal values like this one are appreciated everywhere, no matter where are they set, and the quality of the storytelling and acting is what touches audiences regardless of cultural background. What I try to say is that this is topnotch movie making, and, as such widely apprecuated and recognized. Cheers!
0:29 One can see how Raging Bull borrowed from this scene. Compare the fence dividing the leads with the fence dividing Jake and Vicky when they first meet near the pool. Visually these are very similar scenes.
The many times I’ve seen the movie the more I understand just how brilliant Brando was. Maybe not the complete a person in life but a Superb and great actor.
I don’t know if the sound design is quite right on RUclips but Bernstein’s score is a bit overwhelming on this scene. It DOES function almost as a cast character in the overall film. This was Eva Marie Saint’s debut feature. Five years later she’d really matured into a scorcher in “North by Northwest”.
Brando was such a versatile actor. He played the roles of an abusive husband, a confused young man, an experienced mafia boss, a lustful widower and a foolish old man
I love this movie but I can't watch it anymore... I feel depressed and especially this scene, Marlon and the birds on the roof, makes me sad dunno why!
Can someone please tell me exactly what kinda jacket was the boy who hanging out with Marlon Brando was wearing that said golden warrior on the back please?!
I never realized how much Marlon Brando and Burt Reynolds looked alike. Brando didn't respect Reynolds one bit. Called him narcissistic. Reynolds never got the respect from Hollywood either. Still I loved Burt.

I love the tender expression lingering in his eyes from 1:59-2:02. And then, after she says yes, his smile... :)
my heart exploded he was gorg 😂😳🥺🥵
He's a cutie ♥️
He’s beautiful. ♥️

The most influential and best actor
Eva is also amazing in this scene. Her delicate reluctance.
damm.....thats a good movie.....he was really a great actor!
before he got lazy xD
He acts so innocent and approachable when he asks her **_____**
Kinda irresistable
isnt eva marie saint beautiful!

Even more irresistible when he RUNS up to get his Oscar in 1955.

Some of the best scenes in the movie is the interactions between Terry and Edie.
He could talk me into anything 🥰.
I only found out today she’s still alive if Only Marlon was still with us they would both be the same age.

And a mad colonel
An each one of them is much more complex
Marlon Brando was my very best favourite actor 👍❤️🍀🎭😊🍁👵❤️
“Streetcar named Desire” and “Guys and Dolls” 👍🎭❤️👵
A genius.

1:55 UFO behind her hair, left side of her hair
MrParkinthedark -ha ha,yeah I saw the ufo, well spotted!
doesnt look like a ufo tho xD
Great scene but the music was too loud, too disconcerting. Bernstein was a genius but I don't On the Waterfront was his best work.
Really? Damn I actually thought the music was beautiful and fit into the scene perfectly.
Hollywood in a nutshell.
Agree. The music is too dramatic for what should be an intimate and low-key scene.
Yes, the music was too loud, but the director, Elia Kazan, should have noticed and had it adjusted down; still a good Bernstein score, though.
It was the 1950’s and the editing was what it is today. There’s quite a few errors but the acting and directing are classic.
☆ Great Scene... Beautiful Eva Marie Saint....
this guy blew the 50s to pieces! kids loved this rebel
That second c’mon made me pregnant. And I’m a fella.
😆😆🤣🤣🤣
I see influence on Raging Bull, the meeting scene with the girl...
1:19 did anyone see the Andrea Doria in the background? It can be difficult to see
Can someone please tell me exactly what kinda jacket was the boy who hanging out with Marlon Brando was wearing that said golden warrior on the back please?!
Great movie

🤣
😂😂😂
I just saw this movie for the first time today and the music drove me crazy.
@@mrsvm6221 It's the only film score by Leonard Bernstein.
God that stupid music
a timeless scene except for the corny background music
