Super, thank you. And great to get a glimpse of Betjeman’s Middlesex- “gentle Brent,I used to know you” and “from Greenford, scent of mayfields”. He was fond of Irish songs too , and called Thomas Moore the “bard of my boyhood “ in the poem “Ireland’s Own or The Burial of Thomas Moore”.
A fine ballad, sung right and in a beautiful place! My mom knew "Hard hearted Hannah", a song from the 1920's, which she learned from her namesake, her beloved "flapper" aunt Betty. I think I like the Gap in the Hedge better, though :)
Glad you dug that one out of the cerebral archive, bonny lass! My first school stage effort was "Early One Morning". Then I used to sing "The Thing" (Phil Harris, if I recall) from my 78 collection. That 'orrible gust of wind waited, thankfully, until the blurb. Maybe you should rewrite "Underneath the Arches" to "Underneath the Viaduct" 😅
Well observed! I'd thought I was so clever to cut a square of sponge and double-side-tape it to the hole that picks up the sound. But that gust of wind took the sponge right off...you can see it fly out; it's a piece of yellow that practically hits me in the face! Early One Morning was one of my others from that age; what a wonderful coincidence!
Very nice singing, setting and storytelling, Patricia.💋
