    Boiler Room was extremely accurate in its portrayal of the 'Robert Brennan, First Jersey' chop shop firms of that era. Group interviews, no women brokers, no selling to women, selling periods, instead of trading normally, after which they would celebrate, inexperienced brokers only, charging for the licensing, dead company stocks, pitching only to unsophisticated prospects, no sell tickets, a core group who knew what was going on and shifting that core from one firm to another to evade the regulators. I figured it out because that core was all listed as the board on the prospectuses, so it was obvious we were lying about being principals in the stocks we were selling, and got out right before the SEC shut that firm down. A good way to get licensed but you couldn't stay for very long if you planned on staying in the industry... or had any morals.

Here we see the JT Marlin crew triumphantly riding their chartered party buses into the city for a night of debauchery. Anyone ever wonder if this operation was mob owned?

    • @KevinJohnson-cv2no
      @KevinJohnson-cv2no 6 лет назад +4

      No. The mob doesn't operate in Finance like this, this is purely financiers, investors and brokers.

    • @KevinJohnson-cv2no
      @KevinJohnson-cv2no 6 лет назад +1

      Black Jack There's lots of things that are lucrative and lower risk than organized crime, but that doesn't meant the mob will have their hand in it. The mob is a shadow of what it once was and can't restrain Wall Street in any way, Wall Street is full of people that can't be bribed because they have more money than you, and people that can't be killed because they have more power than you, the mob won't be able to to really get a foothold in finance.

    • @KevinJohnson-cv2no
      @KevinJohnson-cv2no 6 лет назад +1

      Black Jack You said the mob is more involved in financial crimes. "The mob" refers to the organized crime syndicates, so yes you are talking about organized crime.

    • @KevinJohnson-cv2no
      @KevinJohnson-cv2no 5 лет назад

      @Kija Kenpachi Uhh, no. When you're talking about the finance industry and Wall Street, it's almost always certainly about money. Wall Street never was involved in "cement brick" tactics. They destroyed peoples lives yes, but in a much more grand, sophisticated fashion. Wall Street is less likely to shoot or maim you and more likely to just ruin your financial situation, then have you poor and disowned of everything you had, or maybe they'll use their money to make sure you get convicted of something. The mob and Wall Street are two very different organizations. Just because they both wear suits, and do the occasional crime here and there doesn't mean they are one in the same.

      Mob probably stayed out of this racquet for the most part because it wasn't as low profile as other endeavours. One thing they didn't go for was making waves. This was mentioned in Casino.

    Would've been better if Seth's character was just as crazy as the other guys. Instead, he's just a boring nobody sitting by the window on a party bus.

    • @colinclayton8042
      @colinclayton8042 2 года назад +10

      He was a regular schmuck trying to make the quick buck while also trying to get the approval from his hard ass, influential judge for a father. Him being the regular guy is the whole point of the movie. It wouldn't be as good or impactful had he been the stereotypical stock-jock.

      @@colinclayton8042 exactly - he’s the audience - but unlike the wolf of Wall Street - we are not in the party trip - that’s not Seth’s journey - he wanted to do something important and seek the approval from his farther - but in the end he did a lot of wrong.
