    Key components of the sales skilled defined:
    “The Bait”: Attracting the undivided attention of your audience or prospect in order to perform a formal presentation to pitch your product or service.
    “The Hook”: Establishing your value proposition by presenting your client’s goals as undoubtedly attainable through your solution or service.
    “The Close”: Setting expectations and a clear go-forward plan of action to elicit a commitment.
    Persuasive Principles
    Authority - Prospects will quickly engage and trust a figure who demonstrates expertise or experience in their field. Confidence, knowledge, and experience will help sales agents exude authority. If you represent a well-known brand, you can leverage your company’s authority.
    Scarcity - People value things that are in limited supply over things that are in abundance. Creating a sense of urgency or limiting supply elicits an increased desire for immediate action.
    Reciprocity - Free offers, little favors, and concession gestures creates a comfort level with the giver and furthers rapport building.
    Sales Idiom:
    “Selling the Sizzle”: The actual quote “Don’t Sell the Steak - Sell the Sizzle!” is attributed to Elmer Wheeler in his 1937 sales book “Tested Sentences That Sell”. Meaning that among all the talking points a product or solution might have, there are certain ideal quips, sentences, or descriptive phrases. And when those phrases are deployed correctly, they will resonate with your audience much more strongly than the rest. Chili’s doesn’t need to bring out your steak fajitas on a sizzling hot plate but they know the experience will attract more sales from the surrounding patrons.

    One thing that always stuck out to me: the tone of Jim's line "you will make your first million within three years" always seemed like a veiled threat.

    This is a good analysis, well done. I've been through that when I was in my 20s where it works because you seek to establish yourself in the workplace. It loses its appeal when you gain experience because you face the change of time, products cannot be sold just by cold calling and this means your strategy needs to acquire new grounds.

      It's really not hard. Anyone trying to sell you something is manipulating you.
      I really don't understand why people like and trust car salesmen, realtors, and so on. They aren't there for you. They'll manipulate you by saying they are your "agent" and so on but they are always incentivized to get you a bad deal because they earn a percentage of the sale price.
      Also you don't need or want a salesman to tell you what to buy or show you the options. They'll just lie anyways. Do you own research.

    Great breakdown. Having worked for these type before, is very wired sitting through these types of motivational speeches and keeping your mouth shut, and in turn keeping your job. The truth is more likely that I want you out there selling your soul and credibility with the promise of riches, when really you’re there to keep sending money up the chain. Unfortunately I’ve also seen these very people then justify to me why any commissions do not get paid due to the fine print.

    I worked at a firm right across the street from the World trade center, it was exactly the same script used in this movie, the attitude was exactly the same ,the talke.about Ferraris porches Lamborghinis was also exact as this movie ,instead of 150$ a week we were paid 200$ a week ,its exact as it was in real life, they told us to stand up and move when on the phone " motion build emotion " they told us ,this was July 2001 ,I looked out the window at the twin towers access the street ,I was studying for the series seven ,and we all know what happened Sept 11th , my building got clobbered by the falling towers, but just telling you all boiler room was so close to the real thing ,it blew my mind when I saw it after 9-11-01, so yes it's real

    All sales pitches and sales guidelines fall into the three most basic tools of rhetoric: Ethos Pathos and Logos.
    Ethos is credibility and why you should trust a person
    Pathos is emotions. Hot buttons. Easiest one is fear
    Logos is logic. Least important but still important you have to make them justify it with logic after the fact and after emotions
    Then You close/ make them sign
    We could give them all different names and strategies but it always will fall into those 3 columns. Even if you make it an “us vs them mentality” or “look at my cars” or “your neighbor would, wouldn’t you?” Or “don’t miss out”. It’s all cred, emotion, and logic

    Actually this was a pretty standard employment practice for stock brokers back when stock brokers actually existed in the 50’s 60’s 70’s 80’s and even the 90’s. Now you don’t need a broker to buy stocks. You just open an account online and start trading. You work 12 hours a day while studying for your series 7 and your state licensing exams while making literally NO MONEY! You have to bang out 300 - 500 calls per day for a senior broker that you work for. If you get a live lead you pass the phone to him (yeah it was usually a guy but not always - women actually kill it in this industry because male clients tend to listen to what women say). You have to pass on so many leads per day or else you’re fired. It’s completely cut throat. This was how wall street operated for decades. And this speech is literally boiler plate. We all heard this speech multiple times.

      How did it go ? Need to learn that stuff young so it becomes second nature , it’s a fine line too, some people don’t like being told what to do even subconsciously, but this is the only statement that matters “make friends” your friends will lend u money let u sleep on the sofa if your on hard times so when they need a car they will come to u , same principle in 11 seconds for first impressions , it’s bullshit that first impressions are the most important them “getting the first impression of you wrong” is the most important and giving your customer/friend something first is far easier later when u ask them to give u their business , cup of tea...cigarette...telling them that they will get a different product cheaper somewhere else too, but the thing u have to learn to say is “no” without upsetting them , u can say the most horrible things to people and if u do it with a smile it does not matter

    The speech was almost word for word from what the writer of this movie sat through at a boiler room group interview.
    Not everyone fell for it then, not even most. Generally the dumber guys did but the smarter ones would if they felt that strong need to be "in". Just like the main character of the movie.

    The "close" was completely missed in the video, although I liked the video. He makes it their idea when he says, "It's not for everybody. But if you decide it could be for you, call me Monday and we'll talk. Just don't waste my f'n time." Being a millionaire isn't for everybody, but everyone would like to think it is for them. At this point, he can rest assured knowing the majority of those kids are calling him on Monday.

    1:30.. youre wrong. It's not that he thinks the guys gonna figure out theyre a "fraud". It's legit because he doesn't want to hire ppl who already have their head up their asses and stuck in a certain "mindset" .. he'd rather train new ones from scratch who will listen and execute

      That may be a rational motivation for a legitimate firm who wants new people free of old bad habits. But here, in this situation and in this firm (which is an amalgamation of several renowned chop shops including Stratton Oakmont) it's almost entirely about weeding out anybody who "knows better" than to swallow whatever nonsense they're told in sales meetings. They're more likely to pick up on the scam, or at best spook other trainees and tell them this frat-house feudal system is just cheap labor with the expectation that most won't ever really see any money.

    What's the difference? If someone has a cure for cancer and I have cancer, I PRAY THEY ARE MASTER SALESPEOPLE, what people fail to understand is EVERY COMPANY SELLS CONSTANTELY, every human sells constantly, it's just the OBJECT of the sale that is in question here, namely a scam.

      Yeah we are constantly selling something if not ourselves but if one aims to be a master salesman one should also make sure they sell something that is not a scam and that they will good about way after they make the sale and collect commissions because they sold a real service someone needed etc.

    No difference. Manipulation is just another word for the same thing. Manipulation can actually be used as a tool for good. You can argue, what is the difference between learning and being manipulated? Learning makes you a free thinker right? Well not if its brainwashing. Its what the aim or goal is that makes all the difference.

    this works only for low status and young people that have not experiance anything else. I had a boss and he had his reputation not through the empty speach or fear but through his experiance and strategic plan. Boiler rooms are always a scam or frauds... Sure this is his company and the only disagreement there is to stand up and walk away... no need to discuss there anything with such a bull attitude, prossecutors will temper his attitude.
