  • Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team--and later its leader--Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.
As a live-action/animation hybrid, THE CALL OF THE WILD employs cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic--and emotionally authentic--characters.

Marcus Holder tbh that’s why I think they chose to make all the animals animated.. the book is so dark and messed up. Saw this last night and I absolutely loved it. Its such a genuine film with a great story and a big heart. My advice is dont get bogged down being distracted by the CGI or the fact that it's not as dark as the book, take it in the spirit that it was made in which is a good one.

The CGI is flawless, wonderfully realised and in no way out of place. Apart from the whole film, dogs included, looking fantastic, the artistic choices taken with the dogs’ appearance are brilliant imo; like real dogs with just a hint more expression, the eyes are soulful and nothing is jarring.

      You completely missed the point.
What everyone is saying is that movie adaptations of books are never as good as the original book. Nobody is saying the Movie is "too tame" or whatever. What people are saying is that films like this have a bad track record. Honestly, book adaptations just don't work as movies. Eragon, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. Nobody wants to re-enact every moment of the film, they just don't want the book to be ruined.
As for the CGI, it does look stupid. Why couldn't they just use real dogs? Obviously for stunts and whatever they could use CGI, but for the whole movie? That's just dumb.
You sound like you have some serious self confidence issues, with your whole "hyper criticism thing." Maybe you feel criticized a lot? Ikd man, maybe get that checked out.

It was done well and a great way to add some subtle expression and emotions to the dogs and wolves. The music and scenery is also very beautiful, from northern light skies to arctic planes and mountain landscapes. I truly enjoyed this movie.
