Frank thank you. Your a great teacher actually calming, while I get a break from the rat race. LOVE THE TIP ON THE COPPER CONNECTORS. I felt like I was privy to a trade secret.
Thanks for your help with the pen construction. Especially the tip construction, very simple but effective. Keep up the insights to equipment builds. I see you like HF equipment, as do I, now if they would put in a coffee shop so we could exchange ideas. Thanks again.
what about the jack connection at the power source ? I acquired a Nibsburner , no cable no pen. Appears to be simply an RCA female connection on the unit. ARE these devices normally DC output, does the cable connection from cord to unit need to be something to handle maybe higher amperage ? thanks
Yes. The 2 types of connectors are the 1/4 inch phone jack or the RCA jack. Do not use a premade cable unless it is very heavy wire. I tried with poor results. The wire gets hot. Also use high temperature epoxy (missed that in the video). I think the supply is DC but it does not matter. Units I built are AC. Depending on your pen tip current can be 15 amps.

Hello Nice work and I will take inspiration from it. Can you tell me where you find the resistive wire to make breakdowns. What diameter is it? thank you so much Philippe
Frank, I read a comment where someone was asking the name of the wire connectors. I see that you have not yet given that info. I am highly interested in making my own pen. Could you please tell us the name and size of those connectors. You did mention that they come in different sizes. Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Dear Frank, you are brilliant! Thank you so much. What kind of power supply will work with your pen? I am unfamiliar with such things. Also, I would love to see some of your pyrography work.
Hello, How are you? Where do you get the tip that is connected to your regulator or power supply ? Can you please show how it is done. Thank you. Marco
@@frankorlowicz7002 Thank you, I appreciate your respond. How did you connect it though... Can you add it to your video or make a new one... Not trying to be pushy.... Thank you. Marco
Hello Mr. frank im from Bali. hmmm and i have one question, what the name of wire u use? i hope u tell me about this wire in you use e make a shading tips. thanks
tom edwards The cheep epoxy I used in the video will soften but for other pens I made I used a high temperature epoxy which works fine. I should have mentioned that in the video but I did not discover the softening problem until someone pointed it out to me and when I use the pen I guess I did not put enough pressure on the tip to notice the softinging of the epoxy.
Hi Frank! I have been following your videos in this amazing tool, I have always wanted to have one that works like the one that you show in your videos, I have always been a do it yourself person, because I am very good with my hands, and a tool like this It is something that I must do and have, and I thank you for all the good information. I already have practically everything built, the power supply, the pencil ..., but I am in one last bump, and it is about that connection of the pencil to the power supply, would you be so kind to give me a little more detailed information About this part, such as its name, where can I buy it, with this information, you will be giving me the starting signal not only to finish this project but also to start new projects with this amazing tool, I thank you in advance and I’ll be waiting for your help regarding this concern, Luis.
The connectors I used are called 1/4 inch mono phono plug and socket. This is a standard connector use for these pens. 1/4 inch) 6.35mm Microphone Mono TS Socket Female Connector Panel Mount Adapter

I like the way you show how to make it....it looks easy and now I want to do my own .....thanks a lot!!!
You should also check out my power supply for the pen.
When making pens I use Pringle lids for mixing the epoxy , when it sets, bend the lid and it should fall off
Frank does it matter what jack plugs and sockets you use? Do they have be be a high rating for the load they have to take?
The commerical units use Jack's that are normally used for audio applications. I used 1/4 inch mono audio Jack's and they work fine.
Frank thank you. Your a great teacher actually calming, while I get a break from the rat race. LOVE THE TIP ON THE COPPER CONNECTORS. I felt like I was privy to a trade secret.

The connectors are called "Terminal Blocks" and you should use high tempiture epoxy to make a sturdier pen
I got the blocks at american science and surplus

Wire is nicrome resistor wire. 18AWG or 1.0 mm diamiter. Other sizes available. Bought on line. This type wire is used in indrustral applications.

Yes if you can find a big enough one it must handle 10 amps to control the pen.

Would a 12v model train transforer work?
Most likly not. Power supply needs to be 2 to 3 volts at least 5 amps but 10 amps is better
