They also didn’t use any English lyrics in this song, which is super interesting and impressive in modern KPOP.
well they say "yeah"
@@tori4730 that's also used in Korean Soyeon herself confirmed that there is no english word because it is a Korean Poem
@@tori4730 "yeah" isn't English it's just a sound thats used in almost any language 😭
@@prachijaiswal3784 a korean poem? 🥺😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
FR it's so rare to find Kpop songs with no english words, especially nowadays. The only other Kpop songs I could think of with fully Korean lyrics are "Into The New World" by SNSD and "Killing Me" by Ikon
HANN and HWAA is actually connected
According to Soyeon, you need to listen to these songs in order :
1. HANN (Alone) (Their first comeback)
2. HANN (Alone in Winter) (Which is the latest EP's intro)
3. HWAA
HWAA also means both fire and flower
and yes, there are 3 main symbols for this comeback, winter, flower and fire. The versions of the album are Winter, Flower and Fire versions as well. It's like burning the cold winter with fire and bloom again like flowers. It's shown well in their first M Countdown stage for this, they're dancing with a winter background, when it got to the bridge, the stage background became red as if it's a burning fire, at the end, the background turned green, like a garden, it's finally spring time.
Periodt preach. Stan mastermind Soyeon and queens Gidle!🤩🥰👑
hwaa from the first two choruses mean fire, the last hwaa chorus mean flower (hwaa in english means fire, flower, anger). you can hear lighter sounds right after the first two Shuhua's bureul jipyeora.
@@mugiwaranosoyeon cool
the fact soyeon created yet another masterpiece. she’s literally amazing
And yet shuhua still have less line to sing
@@Haziq_Hambali stop bringing soyeon down for that, idot.
If Shuhua is happy with her lines, then don't worry.
@@Haziq_Hambali she's the visual right?

@@Haziq_Hambali truee
this vid should be re titled as "19 minutes of pd telling gidle is genius"
HAHAHA
Because they really are
At first listen, when the song ended, I was like: "WAIT NO. HOW?!". But now I'm used to it. This song is so good !
It feels like it's a burning paper and just disappeared quickly... ironic how it fits the concept, haha
Soyeon said, it ended suddenly to give impact to listeners n want to listen more..so its work..
Sameee!!! I got used to it ending like that as well
I knooow right i had the same feeling
She really larned a thing of two from her KDA days ^^
Soyeon noted that a big influence for the concept of Hwaa is Shuhua's usage of Korean, specifically her tendency to say "(blank) girl". "Winter girl / 겨울여자" gave way to "a girl frozen in winter", and the rest of Hwaa. I thought that was a cool tidbit of something small leading to something bigger and creative.
I've heard that track 1 of the EP, Hann (寒, alone in winter), is a followup to their 2018 single, Hann (一), and also acts as a lead-in to Hwaa.
Hwaa is really inspired by Shuhua. And also Hann(Alone in Winter), which is the first track of the ep, and Hwaa are both connected to Hann(Alone) from 2018.
Storyline goes like:
Hann (2018) > Hann (2020) > Hwaa
And it's a story about overcoming bad breakup and finding strength in yourself to move on.
@@rebecanadaluti4298 that's not true, and it was clarified a while ago, yes she says the phrase opening the chorus, but she also did the last chorus lol, plus we should be comfortable, just like Shuhua feels comfortable with the lines she gets.
Well said. It kinda all makes sense
What poem? Could you tell us?
@@rebecanadaluti4298 lol and the fact that she lead the chorus. In the first 2 chorus everyone was singing and in the last she was alone. You might no no but hwaa has ancient Korean words with are harder and she's still nervous enough to sing in the encore. Knetz and haters bashed her again in the maknae collaboration stage which was a month ago before hwaa and maybe that's why she was scared otherwise she has decent lines on bsides
The end of song shows that there's nothing left to say or do because they found their spring in the flame
right, that's kinda what I thought as well.
It builds up and up and then rather than closing off it leaves you in the Flames of the Fire.
Goddamn, that's smart as hell!
it also gives you the idea that the girls have frozen in time, leaving theirselves that were hurt by their heartbreak in the past and moving on
@@jv-nn4uu ooh.. I like that
My favorite theory I read about the cb is close to what PD said. Shuhua is like the main character, she is most hidden for the most of the video and only comes out with a powerful line before the chorus while we see the other girls in mostly winter/frozen sets and as we are getting close to the end its like the big reveal, Shuhua the girl on fire, the one that leads the beautiful bridge and brings the fire to the other girls so that all of them together can burn this winter and get back their spring.
When you see it that way the MV is truly a masterpiece.
Also fun fact: The girls wanted one member to have silver hair to represent winter and another one red to represent fire and contrast each other, so Soyeon went for silver while Minnie got inspired by Park Boms red hair with bangs in Queendom and decided to go for it.
makes sense since soyeon said this song was inspired by shuhua
soyeon already confirmed that shuhua's thought inspired the entire concept. even hann 2018 was inspired by her.
in a hwaa interview soojin and soyeon mention shuhua became the main character.
this is so true! just like on the one comment about their bside track moon where the girls keep saying hide them from the moonlight, and then soyeon only sings on the last as if she was the one who hides. This is so same with Hwaa as if Shuhua is the fire that gonna melt their winter heart >
Actually, Yuqi recently said that her voice was not born like that deep. She got a heavy fever and cried for a long time at the kindergarten period. Then her voice became very deep, even deeper than now. The she learned to sing and her voice became a little bit higher than before just like now. She used to be insecure about her voice but now it bocome special.
One issue I have is how abruptly it ends, the last part is so freaking pretty and then it just ends.
i've seen people say that was intentional.. an artistic choice i guess
Like everything in life 🤣
Welcome to so many of G-idle’s songs. But I guess according to what people say, it basically keeps up the repeat value of the song
I feel like I'm the only one who genuinely loves the ending lol
@tae tae love Kinda new to their music and Idk how soyeon produces but an epic bridge after that melidious music would've given the song a new dimension.
Hwaa is iconic
So do ur pic sis you look elegant
Shuhua's parts at the end made this song all so much better, mv wise especially. I loved it so much
Dude, the shot with Shuhua and the flower in her mouth is absolutely gorgeous, it makes me wanna cry each time I see it 😭❤️
She had 100% of the killing parts in this song
The mic was like "Lemme kiss you PD you are doing great"
We need a listening party to the album
the audience is shouting in agreement
yes please
Yesss
AGREE
yes please
omg pd either you are a genius or you secretly work with soyeon! you pointed out how the abrupt ending can be to make the audience listen to the rest of the album, and how the spotlight is in the mv, and it moves over soojin when she seems to be hiding from it. the next track is moon, whoms lyrics say "dont shine on me moon, pls hide me moon" so hwaa and moon must definitely be connected!
the first track is han (alone in winter) which soyeon said is connected to hwaa and the previous hann (alone). han also has elements like the bird sound and the wind sound which connects it directly to hwaa, and its lyrics too. this whole album is a story on its own and each track seems to be connected very well.
after han, hwaa and moon (respectively) comes "where is love","lost", and finally "dahlia". SOYEON IS A GENIUS OMG the way she connected all her tracks directly and with lyrics, and it all started from hann 1 (alone)!
I would love to see pd interview (g)i-dle about their song/video production
12:03 interesting that you make that point because in the album, the song moon comes after hwaa and moon is about wanting to turn off the moonlight/spotlight to hide your true feelings since it showcases them with its bright light. i was confused how moon fit into the album story until now, because the rest of the album and the structure made more sense to me and moon felt a little randomly put in there until now. soyeon wasn't kidding about the album having a very specific order that tells the story of finding oneself & blooming after heartbreak and pain
Yep soyeon confirmed it that Hann and Hwaa is related and she recommend listen it in order Hann(Alone) > Hann(Alone in winter) [a bside in the ep] > Hwaa
I will say you have to check the ep. You don't have to make a listening party if its too much pressure on making a whole video, you can check it out by yourself. This whole ep is probably their best and the most rounded album till now.
i burn is truly a masterpiece omg and every track are just *chefs kiss*
I came from future and I have to say it's the best kpop album of 2021 even now 😭😭
the braids could be referring to the strings of fate that have been cut. the relationship turned bad, so the string could've turned grey to symbolize the fact they haven't moved on. just a thought tho
Wow nice theory
This song definitely feels like it has a lot of traditional inspiration, where a lot of their music recently has experimented in modern day vibes, western vibes, etc. This goes in the opposite direction and I really like it.
I think Shuhua is supposed to be the main character here, Soyeon said she wrote the song thinking about her
Yesss, that's why she got so many lines and screentime
@@sashamente2036 she got so many what?
@@sashamente2036 lines... ma’am were we listening to different songs? I’m counting lines that are actually sung because otherwise Yeojin would have had the most lines in Why Not
@@Flora-ix3os I think it was irony xD
@@sashamente2036 Babahahababahaha
This song is supposed to be like a part 2 of hann, which is probably why they sound so similar
yes, soyeon said the old hann, the new hann and hwaa is connected. so you have to listen the old hann first then the new hann and then hwaa
you really need to listen to the whole album! i don't think i've found an album that i've loved all the songs on for a while, and then this dropped. it really blew me away.
Yes me too, specially “lost” but all of the songs are beautiful and suit perfectly.
Yesss
@@clair5360 that's my favorite track too! along with Hann (Alone in Winter) and Dahlia
Yes! Moon is sooo good
im not sure but i think he always reacts to whole albums on patreon.
Soyeon said she loves abrupt endings because its more impactful and cant help but listen to it again.
Anyway,I've been waiting for your reaction on this..glad your back!😁
I burn is the most cohesive and beautiful album I have listened to in a very very long time. The entire album feels like an epic fantasy novel with each song being one part of a behemoth book. I am hoping you will give it a go as well ❤️
i am a huge fan of gidle’s more emotional pieces, so this was a very pleasant comeback for me
I second what PD said about Shuhua, everytie she is on the screen, you can't help but focus on her instensity and power.
Your interpretation of the mv is accurate and spot on. It is a continuation of Hann. Whereas {Hann (Alone) the 2018 single} was a woman scorn, Hann (Alone in winter) their bside track on I burn album is the loneliness that comes after. Hwaa, is them leaving and burning the loneliness behind for a better place. I'm so proud that they composed this album beautifully. They've come a long way 🥺
I Burn is a FANTASTIC album. Minnie's and Yuqi's participation give such a flavour to Idle's discography. You should give it a listen
HWAA is intended to be listened as the ending part of a triplet of songs that includes HANN(Alone) and the first song from the I BURN EP which is titled HANN(Alone In Winter). I've listened to the three songs while reading the English translations and it was a cool experience, there's a clear but non-linear path for the woman in the story.
Yes and at the end of hwaa you feel healed. Is crazy!
And HWAA is also a set with MOON! If you look at the lyrics in Moon, Soyeon made it look like it was an experience or a memory while still being stuck in from the past. Not the official one but it was basically HANN- HANN (Alone in Winter)- MOON and then HWAA as the ending. 🙃
Its always "First" but can it be "PD udoing okay? We hope ur okay." :((
Yeah :((
After watching this vid several times, I feel like the actual production costs of the video is relatively low compared to other big singles, but the elements are so immaculate that it looks like utter art. Every scene change could be in a museum gallery. Its beautiful.
17:29 also, in this shot of shuhua, the panels close and hide the tree, probably meaning that she can finally move on
I’m not a GIdle fan but this song is everything - are all their mvs connected- or is there like a story because this mv is so beautiful and there just has to be a story or something connected to it - it’s a gorgeous song
I have to agree about the abrupt ending, I'm pretty sure it's intentional though, because of how abrupt it is you feel frustrated so you immediatly hit the replay button, at least that's what happens for me when I listen to it. Also, I hope you enjoy the album, I think it's amazing, Where is Love and Dalhia are my favorite songs from it, they're so good !!!
i think the abruption is for the lore
@@clownbehavior2751 what do you mean by that ? :)
@@serendestiny7574 what i mean is the abruption should be a part of the story that (g)i-dle tries to tell with their music
@@clownbehavior2751 oh okay I get it, that could totally be the case yeah !!
Soyeon said she likes endings like that coz they give impact.
Damn... i get chills everytime i hear the ending of the bridge...
Hwaa is Hann's long lost sister
Did cube send you a script or something? How did you know everything with so much understanding? You're a genius. It's like you made the mv yourself.
PD was right. The theme for this M/V / Album, is being Lost and afraid. Trying to hide from world, trying to hide from the spotlight (The Moon)
Soyeon really is TALENTED! I could listen to the song Non-stop and Understand the Beautiful Lyrics while I'm at it. This Review made me realize a lot of things! I was so mesmerized by the song that my Focus wasn't on the meaning but at how Amazing the Song is, so thanks PD! It made me think about a lot of things about this Song and having Theories and stuff that matches the some key points makes me HAPPY! I might need someone to prove or debate if my theories are true or if it's relevant tho🤣
The more I listen to Hwaa the more I like it, and yeees Shuhua shines here even if she doesn't have many lines but it doesn't matter because the times she is the focus are impactful
I can't even explain how this song feels me what kind of vibe this gives me, like something unusual ...
i hope you react to the whole album they really release lots of good songs in their comeback specially lost ❤️
one of my fav title track of (g)i-dle
Hope you check out the rest of the album, especially since Yuqi and Minnie wrote their own songs. Can’t wait to hear your insight on those songs!!
They also produced some song minne produced moon and dahlia and yuqi produced lost
im not even a big fan of the cb mainly bc of the line distribution but i love to see pds explanations, reactions and interpretations so much
Soyeon did say that Hann (Alone) -> Hann (Alone in Winter) -> Hwaa is the correct way to know the story
Soyeon is one of the most talented producers/rappers/singers/artists in the whole industry. I can't wait for her to go solo.
yeah I really want a mixtape from her
have you seen her solo stuff already?
@@judithkim4050 She actually has a solo before debut, Jelly and Idle song, Idle song is the teaser about the upcoming group (G)I-DLE.
@@shawnclifford yes I have seen those and all her unpretty rapstar tracks I love her so much
im still not over the fact they ended the song there too... JDKSOSJS thanks for the video, and for the explanation about the mv elements, i didn't understand before!
I love that you totally got everything that Soyeon was going for in the imagery and symbolism of this song as well as it's connection to HANN.
Also, the whole mini-album is really good plus Yuqi and Minnie did some writing as well as Soyeon. Worth checking out, imo.
You really need to listen to the ep, it's their best yet
You should definitely check out the I Burn ep! It´s really good and this time 3 of the members produced and wrote songs (Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi)
I've been addicted to their music recently to the point that I bought their album even tho I listened to them for a week
I don’t want to sound demanding but please react to their EP! The bsides are so good and it’s probably idle’s best release so far
I really recommend having an Album Listening Party for this EP. PLEASE
I love this song and think this EP is some of their best work ever. Hwaa is such a vocal flex by Idle and even Soyeon herself said she thought they had all leveled up their singing skills for this comeback.
yuqi's voice is so full its so addictive.
I’ve been searching for this multiple times when it doesn't even exist :>
I wish you react to the album as well. Genuinely impressive and super cohesive
What I notice when soyeon made a song it's actually meaningful and POETIC even the summer song dumdi dumdi lol and yes she has that style of her that people instantly know the song is by her.
I like your interpretation of the song and music video, and i just notice when you said 3 different parts of chorus represent winter, flower bloom and fire (could be rebirth like you said)
Soyeon said in a vlive that she likes songs that end abprubtly cause they're impactful. The way Hwaa ends leaves me wanting more, but not because the song isn't good enough, it actually makes me wanna listen to it more and more.
10:47 speaking of old asian themes, soyeon said that in the lyrics she used old korean words and even the way they pronounce them is different
12:06 what you said here is interesting, because in one of I BURN besides called "MOON" (co-composed byt Minnie and written by Soyeon), the chorus says: "turn off the moonlight, please don't let it shine, so that till the morning comes, nobody can see me, please hide me". The whole song is about wanting to be hidden from the light so that the person won't have to fake a smile.
15:14 yes, the album has 3 versions: winter, fire and flower. So basically, after the breakup, the girls ignite a big fire that melts down the snow (or coldness) so they can bloom as flowers which represent them becoming a new strong person and living a new life. What I wonder is why they left the "fire" scene untill the end, I'd switch it with the flower scene in the second chorus and leave the flower one until the end. Maybe they did it that way cause the fire one is more impactful so they prefered to put it in the end.
17:20 Thank you. That's it
The whole album is amazing. It oozes with the girls talents and improvements. Along with three of the m writing lyrics. My fav album of theirs right now. 😭
The fact that you got the entire message of the song and ep on ur first listen is just insane
Idk whether im more impressed by ur analysis skills or soyeons ability to express things through her music
The entire album is full of title track worthy songs, they really could have went with ANY of the songs on the album and they would have been smash hits! Check out I BURN. You won't regret it!
Just about Hwaa, I think the video is just beautiful. Not a lot of complicated setups and minimal effects but just the basics done EXTREMELY WELL. The colors and the stage design really highlight the empitness within the song and the isolation and sadness in the song where its JUST the girls in a small space. The brief ending is interesting to me because like you said, it makes you want to repeat the song which I totally agree. When I first heard it, the first thought I had was that "Imagine what theyre going to do when they perform this on stage.. that ending is very easy to extend into an epic dance sequence or just something BIGGER"
talking about the album, I loved all of the girls stuff previously but I have to say this is my favorite album. The thing I find interesting with IDLE and what I think is their strongest trait is that theyre very cinematic. Lion and Oh My God being prime examples that if you just listen to their previous song without the videos, it does lose some of its drama or it does not "feel" as epic. Their albums also feel like a collection of songs like most typical artists. With that said, this album (I Burn) is their theatricality translated perfectly to their sound. Putting this album on shuffle should be illegal because every song is connected and its their most cohesive album to date. The sequence portrays the full story of the whole album. Its the despair and the coldness of the breakup, the loneliness and the reflection, the learning and the process of moving on. Their cinematic nature was put into the album and I love that. They chose the right instruments and mixed them beautifully. Vocally, I also feel that this album pushed them further than before and I think they succeeded in improving and showcasing their vocal prowess. Its hard to pick a favorite song from this album.
I’ve been waiting for this!!!
