Michael Jackson is probably the only performer that could make people from the 70's; 80's up to 2016 dance. The guy was a rare star. A true artist and the kind of talent that you probably see once every century. RIP King of pop. You are probably making those angels dance with you.

I know what you mean. I'm 24yrs old and most of my peers are too prideful to let loose. I myself enjoy dancing like this. going to the 80s bar for a nice date, It soo much fun and my partner loves it.
Umm . . . watch this again. A lot of these men were fruits. If a man is a really good dancer he's probably gay. Now I can move like a brick on the dance floor and fail to impress you with my less than elegant moves or we could just skip embarrassing us both and head to the bedroom where how we move doesn't need to be pretty.
I remember when I was really, really little....that was one of my first memories. The see through outfits. I remember a lady on a tv show was singing and she was wearing a bustier/bra and you could see through. My dad covered my eyes. Lol. Just a few years earlier and the pants were flared so wide and here it's skinny jeans and spandex. Love the lady in the beginning with the jeans and belted sweater.
This is amazing!! Back when going to clubs were about dancing and having a great time with everyone, and not trying to be staunch and passive aggressive to people and looking at people weirdly because they're dancing!
+BohemianAsh True. I worked at a nightclub (under-age) as a glass collector in the early 80s. Everyone was dancing, forgetting the work week, laughing, flirting. It was great.
Man, I miss those days. Music was awesome and people loved each other See kids...this is when people went to clubs and had fun. It was about dancing and having a good time. And...hoping to get laid. Not 1 person beefing, getting pissed over stupid stuff and not a single firearm.
Um...this country couldn't find enough naturally slim and attractive people in that age range to do this show today. Our society is fat or riddled with fake parts aka plastic surgery. Age has nothing to do with this either, obese starts at age 2 now and kids get plastic surgery as presents from their parents. This type of health we see in these videos no longer exists as it is mental health/wellness todays society lacks as well.
M Styles - wrong, wrong, wrong. Age has everything to do with it. Some of these dancers are semi-professional dancers selected to make the Soul Train dance sphere attractive and entertaining. These people are no more representative of average blacks at that time than a Miss America pageant is representative of women at any given time. These people are young and in their physical prime 18-24yrs old. There are obese people in this country, but there are also plenty of slim fit people too. Most high school and college age girls are very body conscious. It all depends on what community you're in. Middle and upper middle class black females are going to be fit and slim.
Um ok...I am a professional bodybuilder and was a professional soccer player in my youth. The best shape people I know and see are ALL OVER THE AGE OF 40. But I am sure you know better. And to tell me obesity is not an issue lolololol open your eyes and stop making this sh*t a race issue. Get over it. And tell me this is not about mental health as well lolololo wake up. I am SO SICK of RACE being brought into EVERYTHING. This is BEYOND RACE, stop being such a bigot.
M Styles - apparently I do know better. I agreed that obesity is an issue in this country, but I'm able to put things into the proper perspective. You said the people, in your experience, that are in the best shape are all over the age of 40. That sounds biased and is almost certainly a misperception of reality probably based largely on the people that you associate with at this point in your life. Physical fitness, health, and weight, are primarily the result of 4 main factors; genetics, age, diet, and level of physical activity. 1. Genetics - our individual genetic coding determines our individual default metabolism. And even though physical activity and diet (including medications both legal and illegal) can "disturb" or disrupt our natural metabolism it is a natural phenomenon as old as the human animal itself that metabolism is more active and "aggressive" when we are born and in our youthful years to support growth and development and naturally slows as we age. 2. Diet - we are not necessarily what we eat. As mentioned above diet affects our health and physical fitness, but doesn't determine it. The human body has the remarkable ability to synthesize some of what it doesn't get naturally. So even though you may not eat a healthy diet you can still end up being a healthy person. 3. Physical activity - of course the more physically active you are, the healthier you will be. 4. Age - The human animal, like all living organisms goes through a natural cycle of life. People are not born with grey hair, bad knees, and wrinkles. That's a result of the aging process. As for the race, bigot comment, I'm not sure you understand what a bigot is. The definition of a bigot is someone who is intolerant of the differences of others. Nothing I said suggested intolerance. The only reason I mentioned race at all is because Soul Train is very widely known to have been an African American television show with an African American host, featuring African American music artists, and minority studio dancers and guests. You should get your sensitivity in check. You shouldn't allow the mere mention of race to cause you to go the defense.
Ah, this brings back memories! I used to watch this show all the time on the weekends when I was a kid! But because I was WHITE in the 70’s...A lot of my friends and family thought I was weird for watching a show that was geared towards a predominantly black audience. That’s just the way things were back in those days I guess. But I never let that bother me. My argument was SO WHAT? What difference does it make what COLOR the audience is? You got good music, good dancing, good entertainment...WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
I always enjoyed Spul Train more than Solid Gold. You follow the good music no matter the color or creed! My dad raised us on Prince, the Commodores, Earth Wind & Fire AND Kenny Rogers, Bob Seger, The Eagles & Linda Ronstadt.
I thought Jabbawokkies were to the first group of Asians to prove they were better than black people.. You're telling me they were doing it back during the Reagan administration??
Watching this clip makes me feel so many things. I think it's called "nostalgia". I was just turning 14 when this song was on the radio ( I think I just truly dated myself). I remember many of these dancers cause they were on every week . I don't think I missed a single airing of Soul Train from 1977 to 1987. Soul Train truly represented my youth and I really miss that time.

I agree with you 100%. Women definitely looked better back then! I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people remained natural…The way it was meant to be. Now you see women trying to look like men… And men trying to look like women… nobody even knows what the heck gender they are anymore!! 😂 I miss those old days when life was just a lot simpler.
Absolutely EVERY PERSON who danced in the "Soul Train" line really knew how to dance!! I used to watch this show when I was young, anticipating the day it would come on TV.
Born in 91 and a LOVE watching old videos like this, listening to old music, classics, even folk music. I love that old school vibe like diners, drive in theater, poetry slams and settings like The Den (from Moesha) where people listened to artist and had a good time and eat or when people dressed up to go to the club like Ella Fitzgerald or Vivian Green on stage. Ahh take back to those times.
Ok, let me clarify something to those of you who don't know: Michael had 4 Number one hits in a row on his first album...he was 11 years old. He was nominated for an Oscar and performed on the Academy Awards show when he was about 13 years old. By the time he was 25 years old he was in the Stratosphere looking down on other artists who only could dream of being as talented, famous and loved by so many as he was! So there's no need to compare him to anyone else because simply....there is and never will be anyone who can compare to him! How's that!?
I was, 73 to be exact, and as a kid in the 70's low crime, killin wasn't big at all, my parents and their friends partied and dance like no other decade, it really looked like they new how to let loose and have fun, unlike how things turned into, people are soo uptight now and don't really know how to let loose. sad af!
To every teen of this generation reading this, please make the most of your existence in the here and now and see the good in your generation. This was indeed a beautiful time but we were all born in the time God intended us to be in. Just be the change you want to see. I know we all have our opinions, and I'm not tryna make you change yours just trying to help you see it from a different point of view. I'm also pretty young and I know the feeling of being sad about something you had no control over, like the time you were born in for example. Just thought I'd share that.

I can remember vividly when this song came out. Summer of 79, and folks dressed like this. Good times
I'm so glad to have black family members too. Greetings from Brazil!❤
Wish I could walk into a club and see this going on these days. 😢
SPARKS
This kind of dancing was very common in the dance clubs in America from 1976 to 1984
I know!
You'll only see it at a family party.
@@fredwerza3478 no wonder people were slimmer back then. This is like 10 minutes of cardio lol
Miss the 70's and 80's. Good times. Love the way women were natural and beautiful. Really like the jumpsuit the lady at 1:24 is wearing.

Damn the Asian couple was on fire!
Still not sick of this song.... 🎵 🎶 only been 50 years...😍😅
Good music, great dancing...I miss those times!
Me too!
0:30 he's busting out some serious moves right here.
Inspired by Travolta.
@@ethanang3527absolutely not, that’s black 70’s old school!
My parents back in the day...my dad would have been dancing in skates...fun times 😢
The best of the best what a hit pure clean music from the soul 2024 im still listening everyone enjoying themselves love it 🎸🎼🎙️🎷🎶👍🏻
Hell Yeah!!!!!! Great Era!!!!!! I'm 70, still Rock n Roll!!!!!!!!
Being a kid in the 70s was the best!
Those were some great tunes! Still beats today's " music" !!!
The world wasn't perfect in the 80s&90s, but going to the clubs, going to school, etc. made everything come together.✌️😁
this is so fantastic....the clothes, the music, the outrageous confidence everyone had in their dancing. wish we could get back to that now
Absolutely EVERY PERSON who danced in the "Soul Train" line really knew how to dance!! I used to watch this show when I was young, anticipating the day it would come on TV.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson & Don Cornelius!

I miss him. I can't wait until he returns. That's gonna be crazy!
Seeing stuff like this makes me happy to be African-American.✊
Ikr?!💯💖💖💖💖👌🏾💯
Me too
@@prentissbelton7508 I'm not. I am a white man. And a tough one. And i Don't mug people in the street and do drugs, unlike some particular races.
@MrJosCHEWa yeah soul to mug people, soul to kill people and soul to sell drugs. Right you are.
@@muchentuchen6592 you're a racist wanker !
Michael Jackson is awesome
Ok, let me clarify something to those of you who don't know: Michael had 4 Number one hits in a row on his first album...he was 11 years old. He was nominated for an Oscar and performed on the Academy Awards show when he was about 13 years old. By the time he was 25 years old he was in the Stratosphere looking down on other artists who only could dream of being as talented, famous and loved by so many as he was! So there's no need to compare him to anyone else because simply....there is and never will be anyone who can compare to him! How's that!?
all canceled by diddling kids
RESPECT.
Agreed
I had someone argue with me that Lady Gaga was just as talented and accomplished…
@@muricanmike lol but only after wearing a stake she did that 😂
Soul train loved the music & fantastic dancing !!! Great times .
I Love my People! 😃😃
Da couple in red at 2.31 killed it! Yaas! 😉😆😆
Even as a middle class young white girl, I loved watching & learning from Soul train more than A.BS. Still awesome moves to this day💜
It was "far-out"! Lol. Notice how classy everyone was? So much fun...no vulgarity, just happiness and freedom. Our youth have no idea...♥️♥️♥️
Same! More influential for me.

Beautiful people enjoying life to its fullest with total freedom and no inhibitions.

i wish i was born in this era 😒
I was, 73 to be exact, and as a kid in the 70's low crime, killin wasn't big at all, my parents and their friends partied and dance like no other decade, it really looked like they new how to let loose and have fun, unlike how things turned into, people are soo uptight now and don't really know how to let loose. sad af!
disco bear not in all of us my friend, I used to think like that as well.. most have no clue fam, it has to be relearned by the masses.
Just thought I'd share that.
you look good girl...enjoy your youth and your time as a young person...remember it only happens once..then its gone...you keep dancin beautiful....
Jalyssa Moss ugh me too😫😫😫
Late 70s, early 80's clubbing. Lots of drugs but nobody was spiking other people's drinks in those days. 😎
😁 One of my favourite songs
Got MJ's "Off The Wall" vinyl album for a birthday present as a girl from Mom & Dad - was over the moon.❤❤❤❤🤗

I saw Michael Jackson in concert in July 1988. He performed this classic song that night.
