For a little girls birthday party: Put some muffin cups in a muffin pan. Sprinkle the bottoms with crushed graham crackers or vanilla wafers. Make your basic goop with strawberry Jello and strawberry soda. Add some chopped and blotted strawberries to the semi set goop. Pile into muffin cups. Chill. Top with cream and a strawberry slice.
The jello salad looked really refreshing and light . I bet mixing a 1/2 cup or so of chopped pecans would really be good in it also just a thought ! Enjoy your videos ! Take care!
I remember this when I was a kid my parents would have a pool party and everybody brought a dish and one of my mom's friends would bring this one and I loved it
I have made this many years ago, it is great. My wife had diabetes and a touchy stomach so I made her a jello dessert she could enjoy. Very simple, I took sugar free flavored jello and used the quick set method to bloom the jello using a large bowl on my stand mixer and wisking attachment on high adding one container of sugar free coolwhip. As it whipped it would start to set and get vary airy. Then place into 4 empty coolwhip container, refrigerated for at least one hour before serving. This is lite and very tasty. Just sharing.
Thank you for this one🙏🙏🙏 Childhood brought back to the kitchen with Love❤ Would NOT change a thing😍 Lime, pineapple& Cherry equals Heaven on earth! Love vintage recipes❤❤❤ They are getting more& more lost 😢 Nice to see them resurface.
My favorite jello recipe is this: one large pack of "dry" orange jello, 2 cups sour cream, 2 cups mini marshmallows, 2 cups drained canned mandarin oranges and 2 cups cottage cheese (don't use reduced fat).... Put sour cream and cottage cheese into large bowl and mix until combined. Pour in dry jello and mix until completely incorporated. Add marshmallows and mandarins and stir gently so as to not break up orange slices. Place lid or plastic wrap to cover bowl and place in fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow jello to set. Then enjoy!! This is sweet, creamy, no mess, and literally NO BAKE and your family will LOVE IT. I also love to do the lime jello and use drained crushed pineapple in place of the mandarin oranges. I take this jello dessert to church functions all the time and it is always gone right away! I have also done a batch of both and placed them in large punch bowl with orange on one side and the lime on the other, it makes a stunning and simple salad. You should seriously try it! I also have my own secret jello/marshmallow cake that I make during the summer and it is also a BIG hit at functions!!
This recipe takes me back! My aunt made this but she added mini marshmallow! 🙃 Either way I know it’s delicious! Thank you for the recipe and I will be making it! 😃 love your channel!
👍😋🤤👍❤️❤️❤️🥰😊. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Looks really good ! Love the vintage desserts. My hubby loves green Jello. 👍😎👍😁. I remember dream whip. I hope you do make some more vintage recipes would love to see them.
My Mom made that in the 60s but as a pie with graham cracker crust and saved some of the crumbs for the top after spreading real whipped cream on it. This was always a wonderful for summer. Thanks for reminding me of this treat.
Thank you for sharing! Back long ago, before I was born, my grandfather worked for South Western Bell. He and his crew would travel to different destination to work. Since they stayed in places for weeks at a time, they would rent a house and my grandmother did the cooking and cleaning. She was given a budget to buy the food. It wasn't always easy to make that money go very far. She told me that one evening, she was trying to figure out what to make. So, she made a big pot of grits. Along with that she had some chili. She took and put a heaping spoonful of grits, put hot chili on top of the grits. To that she added shredded cheese, and chopped onion. Well, she served this to the men that evening, and it was a hit. It tastes like enchiladas!!! She has passed, but her "mock enchiladas" are still a big hit around our house.
We make a similar vintage lime jello recipe, but it’s a more savory salad called “Watergate salad” after the infamous Nixon watergate incident. That one uses cottage cheese instead of whipped topping, and pecans or walnuts along with the pineapple, but the secret ingredient is a teaspoon or so of creamed horseradish. It’s a very unique, delicious side salad!
I will definitely try this one. I make a similar one with orange jello and instead of cream cheese I use cottage cheese and along with the pineapple I add mandarin oranges drained. Make it all the time for family dinners because my son and I love it.
yummy, now I have to go back to the store for lime jello and 7 up cream cheese and cool whip, and here I thought I finished the shopping for the week. thank you for the recipe.
I have had this with several variations like: mini marshmallows, coconut, chopped maraschino cherries mixed in (usually for Christmas), and chopped pecans. Also, instead of cream cheese, I have had it with cottage cheese. It was always great in all of its variations.
My mother made a version of this where she would make the lime jellow then add pinapple and bananas cut up, pour that into a pan and let it set then she made a topping of the reserved pineapple juice thickened with coolwhipp added then top the jellow with it. I wish I had her recipe. I used to just eat the topping off the jellow. Drove her crazy.
Catherine.., that looks so yummy.. but i have had it with these ingredients to take it up a notch.. with cottage cheese, bananas, cherries, nuts , little mandarin oranges.. and so Yum.
This looks awesome. I think I’m going to add the whole can of Crushed pineapple since we love it here. And I may add some shredded or flaked coconut. The coconut will absorb any extra liquid from the drained pineapple. I may add some chopped pecans as well. To finish I will frost the Jell-O salad with the whip cream and sprinkle a little extra coconut flakes on top. Can’t wait to try this My mother served a similar dessert every Thanksgiving when I was growing up. Except it didn’t have the lemon lime soda. And, instead of whipped cream, she added a cup of mayonnaise, along with the crushed pineapple and chopped nuts. And, of course, she had to serve it as a molded salad using her trusty Tupperware Jell-O mold.😉👍🏼
PS I just remembered that instead of 6 ounces of lime Jell-O, my mom used a 3-ounce package of lime Jell-O and A 3 ounce package of lemon Jell-O. That combo would definitely work with your recipe. PPS your video was extremely complete in the directions and cautions and suggestions. Unlike some we see here on RUclips. Nicely done!👍🏼
I make this every Easter and add mini marshmallows too. My Mom always made it with orange or lemon jello which I have switched it up over the years but end up back to lime. Thanks for sharing Catherine.🙂❤
I remember my Mom making this. She also added large curd Cottage cheese and then chopped Walnuts too go on the top whip cream. You brought back so many great memories Catherine. Thank You. God Bless.
My husband always got the pineapple juice I drained off .. he loved it.. I have made similar jello salads.. it’s been awhile.. I bet adding chopped pecans in it would be good too..
My mother-in-law always made this at Christmas time and sometimes Thanksgiving also but she added a handful of pecan pieces to it and then didn't finish the top off with whipped cream she added a small box of red Jello on the top and she would slice it up and it was one of those nice sweet but light desserts along with the holiday meal that you like to have a long way. Thank you very much for sharing
Looks very delicious😋 and i love every one’s comments! I really need to give this a try, and i would like to say, how about squeezing fresh lime into it, and some lime zest. I love lime! 😂 Also instead of cherries use some sliced lime candies for decoration. Thank you for sharing you videos. I always enjoy them.
Love them too. I love the old cookbooks that were from the mid-century 50's-70's. They had menu ideas and grids on how much of each staple item you needed to keep stocked depending on the number of people in your family. They made things the hard way..no microwave or immersion blender in that kitchen. They actually knew how to cook like Julia childs
Looks and sounds delicious! Sounds like a super dessert for an Easter buffet😊 I wonder how peach jello would taste with the pineapple... Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Hello from Texas! My Mom worked at my school cafeteria when I was 7?ish. I believe it was 1971-1972. They made a version of this with shredded diced cabbage and she said walnuts. I can't remember eating it but she said the kids loved it. I believe she made it at home in the Summer as well. I'm trying to find that particular recipe for my mom. She's now 83 and wants to make it again. If anyone knows this recipe please reply to this comment, Thank you! Oh, also... she worked at the school in Austin Texas near Barton Springs.
I've been looking for a recipe like this. I sometimes buy lime whip or orange whip from a local food prep business and I always wondered how it was made. This sounds pretty close. I can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks, Catherine, for another great recipe and thanks, Thomas, for the quality check to let us know how it tastes.
Momma made but she added chopped walnuts and celery to the bottom layer and the top layer she mixed with sour cream and let both layer chill and then added sour cream layer on top of the layer with the walnuts and celery, I still make today soooooo good yummy. Thank you for sharing Catherine have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. I'm going to try your recipe Amazing. 🙏❤🙏❤
Thank you !! Thinking about refrigerating this in cupcake tins with the toppings on top...for me and all my co- workers and boss to enjoy in the back of the kitchen!! Can't wait.!!
This is a perfect summer treat! 🤗 I only ever have cherry Jell-O on hand. So that's the flavor I'll be using! 😋 But I don't have 7up. In fact, the only soft drink I currently have is Cherry Pepsi. I wonder how that would work....🤔 I'm definitely going to try this. So good for these warm days coming up!. Thanks for sharing another great recipe! 🥰
Yum! My mom used to make something like this back in the day (60’s & 70’s) but added celery and walnuts too. It was one of her luncheon dishes for company. I think sometimes she also used cottage cheese, which gave it even more texture. Either way = scrumptious!!!
I have a twin sister. Our birthday is tomorrow. We will be 63. I made this today for us tomorrow. The spoon sure taste good so I know the finished dessert will also. Thanks for taking me back in time with this vintage dessert!

Yes indeed!👍 My Aunt use to add chopped pecans or walnuts to hers. It was delicious! ☺🌻
PATRICIA Rooks Pecana and mini marshmallows!
My aunt added finely chopped celery plus the pecans.
Ooohhh yes!!! Pecans and coconut.
Haha! That part where your husband was doing the, "quality check", was funny! 😂
Also, the red cherries on it, makes it look Christmasy.
I remember this when I was a kid my parents would have a pool party and everybody brought a dish and one of my mom's friends would bring this one and I loved it
my mom used to make this too. sooooo delicious!
Brings back good memories
This is one of the vintage salads that was real good

Sounds yummy.
Last I checked coolwhip sugar free ingredients it was worse that he lite, and I wish Jello would stop using Aspartame
you & me both. Natural sweetener, like monk fruit & stevia would be a lot better for us.
One of the best vintage recipes! So deliciously creamy and refreshing. Hard to stop eating it!👍😋
I'd love to see you make a chocolate mayonnaise cake. My mom used to make them back in the 70s and 80s.
Google one

I love Jello Desserts/Salads….it was such a treat and presentation on our family table as a child.
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.👍💁♀️👍🥰🥰🥰
I love orange jello , orange anything.... fruit, strawburst, marmalade, popsicles, anything 🍊 orange 😋
You could just change the ingredients to orange.

The red jello cubes would be a great alternative to the maraschino cherries as they are not digested in the body. Great recommendation. Thanks, J
hi catherine. that is a wonderful dessert

Looked so refreshing, nice dessert for Christmas with the colors.👍❤️
My MIL had a recipe that used lemon jello & sprinkled sharp cheddar cheese over the top. Chopped pecans would be really good in it, too.
Love this stuff! Not many men have such a sweet wife and a great cook as you are.
What Lucky Lucky Cookie Monster! 🥰

That looks delicious
My grandma made that for our summer salad but used strawberry jello. ❤
