Recipe:
(1) 14oz can sweetened condensed milk, chilled in refrigerator
(1) 20oz can crushed pineapple, drained well
(1) 21oz can strawberry pie filling
16 oz heavy whipping cream or cool whip
1/2 cup chopped pecans or other favorite nut variety
In a large mixing bowl using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer beat sweetened condensed milk until double the size and white in color.
Mix in drained pineapple and strawberry pie filling using the electric hand mixer. In a large bowl whisk heavy whipping cream until a whipped consistency. (Do not do this step if you are using cool whip).
Fold in the whipped topping or cool whip into the condensed milk mixture carefully until well combined. Add in chopped pecans. Pour mixture into a 9x13 baking dish or a large serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to chill until set 1-2 hours before serving. I added cut strawberries to the top. Enjoy.
I'm 60 yrs. old, when I grow up just want to be a great desert chef like you.
All these shows about old style cooking remind me of my childhood (baby boomer here). Really miss my mom's loving touch with everything (cooking, laundry, life instructions, advice, etc). She was the best (my dad too).
We are gen X but we know the feeling.
Think I fall into the later days of baby boomers never was sure if 1965 was a yr included. But when growing up our family gatherings you'd see some "different" stuff... all ended in "Salad" LOL
My Mom, MIL, G'mom & aunts made Pear salad, Pineapple ring salad (open can, drain, place on pretty plate & a dollop of mayo topped with grated cheese & cherry out of a jar on top.
I was born in 1952, so I really appreciate what you are saying.
@@juliedickey9181 You are Gen X...the baby boom generation ended in 64.
My husband is a boomer and so I have been looking for cool summer dishes. He has a sweet tooth so this looks perfect along with some of the other jello salad recipes I have found on RUclips. I will have to leave out the nuts, though, for a few reasons, so I will be using tiny marsh mellows and perhaps some blueberries and/or sliced strawberries instead (mixing them in the desert instead of using them as a topping). Of course watching at 7:30 reminds me of one snag I will hit: my daughter. She will be like your husband but more like, "You can keep what is in the bowl. I take this (the casserole dish)."
Good luck!!
Cottage cheese, pineapple, lime jello, cool whip salad. Vintage and delicious! I’m definitely making yours next ❤
My grandma used to make it and we loved it as kids.
We do like yours Barbara but add mandarins oranges and use orange jello
There's another version with the mandarin salad that includes adding orange sherbet. You will need to let it freeze and keep it in the freezer between servings. Yummy! And of course, use mandarin oranges and orange jello.
Yummy!
❤jello sounds really good but l would add mini marshmallows what do you think? ❤
Cottage cheese and fruit! You don't know what you're missing!
My mom did to. It was awesome 😊
I agree. The one you make with cottage cheese is scrumptious!
I grew up with cottage cheese and peaches! Pure HEAVEN!!
🤢🤮 lol. Seriously though I hate cottage cheese.
Yes and with marshmallows and coconut flakes
I pulled out one of my mom's recipes from the early 50's for a frozen dessert which I decided to write out exactly how she wrote and spelled it because that is part of the joy of the recipe cards she made for me. It's called "Lemon Desert. Beat 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar (Save 1 tablespoon of sugar to put in white of eggs). 4 tablespoons Lemon Juice. Beat egg whites and sugar until stiff. Beat 1/2 pint whipping cream. Mix all to-gether and put into lined Ice tray with vanilla or lemon wafers crushed. Sprinkle crushed wafers on top. Put into refrigerator-freezer part. Remove to soften before serving. This makes 1 tray." I kept two old metal ice trays all these years especially to make her 'freezer' desserts'. There is just something about having to be careful to have dry hands when you pull them out of the freezer so you're fingers don't freeze to the metal that takes me back to being a kid :0
Sounds yummy.
My sister made special gifts this Christmas … she photographed favorite family recipes of the handwritten cards from Moms and Grandmothers … and had them printed onto tea towels … beautiful heart-blessings for recipients!
Sounds delightful
Boy, do I remember that!!! Slightly damp fingers stuck to the ice tray! 😉😄😆😅😂🤣
My Mom made a dessert like this during the 60's when I was young. She left off the strawberries & added Tang dink mix to the cool whip to make a dream sickle tasting dessert. I still make it for Thanksgiving.
I love the idea of adding orange for a dreamsickle dessert. Yummy
Sounds very yummy!!
you could even top this one with mandarin oranges!
I do remember the tang version of this! I’m from Michigan and from the 70’s, we ate TANG EVERYTHING! My Mom used a koolaid lemonade package mixed with the sweetened condensed milk to do a version of this as well. It was always my Brother’s favorite dessert. He is no longer with us anymore and these recipes are now really special in our family as memories!

Cherry pie filling sounds good to me
This recipe makes me feel MOTIVATED
Cottage cheese and fruit is really good 😍
My grandmother did the strawberry using strawberry jello, frrsh strawberries when in season, cool whip, cottage cheese and pineapple. Another way she did was. Orange jello, cool whip, mandrin oranges, pineapple and cottage cheese. She called it Yankee Salad.
Mom did this. She also(in the 1970s) made excellent meatballs for her(her mom's recipe) spaghetti!
My mom made blueberry. Delicious. Another with cottage cheese, orange jello, cool whip, mandarin oranges.
Oh...I love this recipe... my mother in law made this dessert every Thanksgiving we called it the pink stuff, she wouldnt share her recipe with us..... so now we know yay..
My Mother in law is now is heaven and I know she is looking down on us, smiling....😊 ....Thank you for sharing the "pink stuff" recipe with us...Blessings
I just snapped...my mom makes this every thanksgiving too. I don't think she puts the condensed milk in it tho. Not sure. Its called cherry salad. She uses cherries...not strawberries is why I didnt put 2 and 2 together lol
My family has been having this dessert for years and we call it Pink Stuff also; however, we make it with cherries and pecans. Otherwise, the same recipe.
When I was in elementary school, in the 60s, the lunchroom would serve something similar to this from time to time. It was so good. Never knew what it was called either.
😇
So I got after this recipe and yep, that's a good one. I made a few minor changes by eliminating the pecans and served it in individual cups in layers with some fresh strawberry puree at the bottom, middle and top and a layer of crushed cinnamon Graham cracker on top. Everything else was done as shown in the video. Boy Howdy it went over well at work.
That sounds delish, I always crumble some graham crackers on and the top of my vanilla Bean ice cream, and raspberry preserves in there too! It's so good
I can't wait to make this
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Orion Jonas instablaster :)
@Edward Kyrie i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I was born in 1952 and grew up with these recipes. Some frozen desserts used metal ice trays with pull-out dividers which aren't around anymore. I still have my mom's handwritten recipe cards that she put into an index card box and sent me off with when I left home. The tables have turned and now I make them for her. When they are called 'vintage' it makes my mom and me feel old :0
Brings back memories...my mom made this in the late 50's for church socials. I think she used cherry 🍒 pie filling. My dad's favorite ❤.
Yes, my sister gave me her recipe and call it Cherry Fluff

Cottage cheese in a fruit salad is actually good! My grandmother made it often
Spot on! Folks have been enjoying peaches, pears,, berries, other fruits with cottage cheese forever. Our great grandmother made fresh dry cottage cheese, wet cottage cheese for us in the early 1960's and yes, we enjoyed eating this as kids served with fresh pears, peaches and berries grown on the farm. Delicious!
Looks heavenly 🍓
my Grammy did too , she added her fruit from the garden :)
Cottage cheese actually balance out the overly sweet dessert and you don't even know it's in the salad mix. 🤗
I love that you don't scold the hubby stealing bites
LOL!
My grandmother used to make something similar to this, she used condensed milk, lemon juice, cherry pie filling, chopped pecans and Cool Whip. She would mix it and pour it into a graham crust, cover and freeze it. We called it "Joy Pie". It made a really lovely pie for Christmas, being pink and having the cherries in it. And it was amazing when frozen. Although she also made it as a salad like you are. I liked the frozen pie the best though. My kids tell me it isn't Christmas without Joy Pie. LOL
I know im 2 years late, but your hubby cracks me up, when he sneaks a bite of pecans, and strawberries!
LOL! He does that all the time.
Nice! 🍓 And I like the interaction between you and your husband. It's cute and entertaining, different than other cooking videos I've seen.
😊 thank you
What a beautiful dish for Easter celebrations, Thanks,
Oh my, haven't thought about this in decades. My mom used to make this with our home grown strawberries back in the 50's through the 70's. It was so delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Yours looks delicious.
Look so good...no cottage cheese
So happy to see this
My Mother made this when we were growing up. Delicious
Thank you for sharing
I've never seen canned strawberry pie filling. Y'all see that at the store?
We love this at my house! We use cherry pie filling and add banana slices and call it Banana Split Salad. So good!
Love it!!
That's what I was thinking to do, add bananas but then thought " No cuz the bananas would turn Blackish" do they? I know there's the trick of pudding lemon juice but I wouldn't want to change the flavor of the bananas
Since the bananas are mixed into the the other ingredients, they don’t turn.
@@sharonnunn3385 oh good, then I can go ahead and make it this way 😊 I love 🍌 I made jello put them in and it looked... yuck
Looks delicious. My favorite part of a meal is the salads, slaws, congealed salads, etc. Speaking of vintage, we still love the old school pear salads, canned pear halves, a dollop of mayo in the middle with shredded cheese on top. For company, dress it up with a lettuce leaf and a maraschino cherry on top.
My mom used Jello, canned frozen strawberries, and Cool Whip. It was delicious. She'd make the Jello and let it set halfway or so and then add the frozen strawberries and let it set all the way. Then stir in the Cool Whip.
I was just thinking about making it that way. I remember someone making this when I was a kid. They used jello and cool whip too.
Poured into baked pie crust.
Not the same recipe.
There's a Watergate Salad that is made the same way but that one uses Pistachio pudding mix and pineapples, with mini marshmallows. and pistachio nuts.
One of my favorites, love pistachio
Yes, I remember having this back in the day!
# pistachionutpudding ❤
Yes! I work at a nursing facility and we make that but add maraschino cherries. So yummy!
I use to make that 70s recipe back in the 90s. I have to make a super large bowl nowadays bc my sons love it!
I make this recipe with cherry pie filling and miniature marshmallows. My grandmother gave me this recipe. It's so good.
When I was little, we got to pick our birthday cake and I always chose a very similar strawberry dessert with chunks of angel food cake. Thanks for bring me a happy childhood memory.
Cottage cheese is delicious in this recipe. It also adds protein to a dessert dish.
Looks good. I appreciate that you opted not to use Cool Whip, but whipped your own cream instead.
You mentioned cottage cheese. I make a really old recipe my grandma had that you start with 2 pkgs of lime jello, melt 1 bag small marshmallows, let mold in fridge slightly, then add cottage cheese and whipped cream. Delicious!
Sounds great! What a wonderful recipe.
There’s another with lemon and lime jello, Mayo and cottage cheese
Was it cream cheese or cottage cheese? Seems like cream cheese would be more appropriate. js
@@janetmcabee I used to put cottage cheese in a blender if I wanted it smooth and add some protein to a recipe. It works well!
Dr pimple popper
Thomas is too funny! That looks delicious, will try this weekend. Must be wonderful having someone who really enjoys your cooking.
All of you helped bring back happy memories from my childhood when my very large family would gather every Sunday after church and at least one of the aunts would bring this desert with all the varieties you've mentioned. Good times! 😊
I just “found” you and I adore you. I bet if this was frozen it might be a nice frozen dessert, too. Hmmm...
Welcome!! Thank you.
My mom froze it and it was delicious 😋
Bet so!
Lol, my Aunt made a wonderful salad with cottage cheese, pineapple, Jello and xtra chopped nuts. Love foods with texture!
Looks so good
I still make it. We called it pink stuff when we were kids🤣
Cottage cheese is in many fruit salads. They do not taste like the cottage cheese alone. Mother made a frozen salad w pineapple, cottage cheese, nuts & I do not know other ingredients. Does anybody remember this salad plus have a receipe?Seems like maybe Jello?
@@libertyfreeman8044 My Aunt used Jello and paired the fruits with the Jello flavor
Add cottage cheese?! Oh hell no
That would be really good on a graham crust
My brother-in-law made this for me using cherry pie filling and added coconut and mini-marshmallows!! It was yummy😋
Sounds great!
LeAnn, that sounds yummy! Will definitely try make it!
Sugars?
@@gretelhance it is extremely rich, can only eat in small portions
Looks good i love cottage on salads
My mama made this (along with her amazing cheesecake) for every holiday & family gathering throughout the 1950’s, 60’s & 70’s. She called it, Heavenly Hash.
My Mother used to make something similar to this, it had a graham cracker crust and was made with strawberry jello, i was a just a kid but remember she let the jello start to set up similar to jelly then whipped, it had crushed pineapple and whipped cream. It was my favorite dessert but never have found a recipe for it. this would be close in taste I would think
My mother made some thing that she called blueberry delight. You would take blueberry pie filling cream cheese cool whip and a couple dashes of vanilla mix it all together and pour it into gram cracker crust.💕💕💕🥰🥰 I still make this today and I am 58 years old all of my children love it.
@@MJYouAreNotAlone1
Man, memories!! I forgot all about this treat!! Damn, that's not really a good thing 😬
🤣
@@59Alaskan 🤣🤣🤣🤣😘
This looks great. It reminds me of a dish I do. I take 1 pkg. of Strawberry Jello Powder and 1 can of crushed pineapple. Boil for about 5 minutes. Let it cool. Add 1 container of cottage cheese. Mix together. Last add 1 lrg container of Cool Whip. Stir in gently. Put in fridge to set. It is so delicious! You can use any flavour of Jello powder you like.
I’d put it in a Graham Cracker Crust turning it into a pie. Got to try this. Yum!!!
I was thinking of a Graham cracker crust then a cheese cake layer then this on top!!! Yummy! Thank you for sharing :)
Yup I thought the same
You took the words right out my mouth. I was gonna say maybe layer it with some cookies for a refrigerator cake. Pretty sure that would be a winner.
@@kevseb66 That sounds really good too & I bet it would be good to eat frozen too especially in the summer.
I tried it with cherry pie filling. It is delicious.
I've been making Pink Salad for the last 43 years at Thanksgiving. A little different than yours though.
Combine 1 can of sweetened condensed milk,
1 - 3/4 bigger tub of Cool Whip,
1 can of Cherry pie filling,
1 can of "drained" Crushed Pineapple "OR" Pineapple chunks,
1 can of "drained" Mandarin Oranges,
1 cup of chopped Walnuts
Refrigerate after all ingredients are combined.
Believe it or not, it is not super sweet with the Cool Whip.
It has been a favorite for years !!
Add sweet shredded coconut to this.....yes!
I make one with
Bowl of cool whip
Container of Cottage Cheese
Large box of Jello any kind
Can of Pineapple drained
Can of Fruit Cocktail drained
Mix all together then add Mini Marshmallows and Coconut as much as you prefer. Mix all together well, put in refrigerator over night. My family has enjoyed this for many years.
These variations all sound good, but I'll use whipped cream in lieu of Kool Whip.
I make the same recipe but add instant SF vanilla pudding to the condensed milk. Then every thing else. YUM!
I just made this for Thanksgiving, we use pecans in the south.
Oh yes!! My grandma used to make this when we had get togethers. She didn't put in nuts but she did use marshmallows. Really takes you back. I will be making with fond memories. Thank you for sharing and for giving me so many ideas for meals!!! ❤❤
you are so welcome.
That's the way I remember it too, marshmallows, no nuts.
Planning this for Valentine's day!
I can't wait to make this dessert for Easter!
It's really good made with Cherry pie filling! I will try the strawberry filling.
Yummy! But I didn't know sweet condensed milk does that after beating it.
Looks great!😇😋
I made this for Easter 2023. This was absolutely delicious!!!
We do a dump salad that has cottage cheese ,coolwhip, mandarin oranges, orange jello just dry out of the box not mixed with water, maraschino cherries, pineapple, colored marshmallows and chopped nuts. It is amazing. So cottage cheese in a fruit salad can be yummy.
I am going to try your recipe.
Yum! I will try that! Sounds delish.thank u for sharing that!😇😋😘
I make that too!
Do a video that sounds absolutely amazing
Is that called ambrosia salad?
@@shellyg5705 we have always called it dump dalad because you dump everything together
MMM MMMM MMM! I'll definitely be making this scrumptious dessert!
My mom made a fruit salad with cottage cheese when I was a kid and I still make it today, in fact I just some yesterday and it's so yummy.. It calls for a tub of cool whip, cottage cheese, crushed pineapple a pack of orange Jell-o and mandarin oranges. Don't knock it till you try it.... Dump you cottage cheese in a bowl add the orange Jell-o and mix till all the sugar is dissolved drain your fruit well add to the mix fold in the tub of cool whip, it's best served cold...
So many variations on this. All delicious!
I tried this with blueberry pie filling!😋
Cottage cheese in fruit salad is amazing!!!
Cottage cheese & crushed pineapple. Yum
Sounds delicious I think I'll make it for Galantine ❤ Celebration for Valentine's❤🎊 Day for our ladies Gathering. Thank you very much. ❤😊❤
I have also have a variation of this with cottage cheese mixed in. It’s really good
No bake! I love it.
It is like a base for homemade ice cream, so I would definitely put it in the freezer for a few hours!
Strawberry fluff. So good
I'm going to make this with strawberries as the strawberries are my favorite fruit. I remember eating this as a child. Thank you Catherine for The Memories💓
you are so welcome.
Looks tasty..hope everyone has a pleasant day
We always made it with cherry pie filling and chopped almonds!
Had something similar years ago and forgot about the recipe
Going to a Senior potluck at my church this month. Decided to make this. Good nostalgia factor here.....and yummy too.
I could eat this everyday! Yum 🍓😋 love the 1950's recipes!! ♥️
Glad you like them!
Mom used to make this on Easter & Christmas. Good job.
I love this dessert! We always call this queen salad.😊
I remember this one so glad to see it resurface again I had forgotten about it always loved it yum & easy I do not like to cook 🤗
This recipe is definitely a fun blast from the past! I remember well, all the different jello-y, fruity, creamy “salads” from back in the day. These were always present on a buffet table at bridal or baby showers and picnics. Some did include mini marshmallows, others cottage cheese. I recall a lime jello version with cottage cheese, pineapple, celery, walnuts, and sour cream. It was delicious!!! If you’re unfamiliar with these, and aren’t too sure sure, then I say don’t knock it til you try it. They’re really yummy & festive. Thanks Catherine, for bringing these old-timey favs around again!
That looks like a good filling for a graham cracker crust. 😍
I think I would definitely add miniature marshmallows! I love them in fruit salads!
My grandma used to make this all the time at bbqs, brings back lots of memories!!!!
looks great, I think my mom used to make some similar, cottage cheese and it was great. I am almost 80 so the 50's would be just about right.
I made this 40 yrs ago with cherry pie filling...it is delicious!...I had forgotten about it!
This is so cool. I remember my mom making this.
This looks amazing!! Definitely gonna make this!
You and your hubby are adorable!!
Thank you!! 😊
Cottage cheese really goes great with fruit salad. My mother-in-law had a recipe for a fruit salad that called for cottage cheese and it was the best ever.
Your fruit salad really looks great
Thank you for sharing!
Like something from my childhood. Hardly anybody makes this time of desserts anymore. Thx 4 revisiting
Your lime jello salad was a hit, so light and refreshing. This weekend, I am going to fix orange with mandarin oranges and hope my family likes it as well.
Anything with strawberries in it is my favorite .
I’ve had it with cottage cheese. It’s really good.
Wow!!! Nummy. 😋Gonna try this. Watching from South-Africa.
Back in the late 70's & 80's, our sweet friend, now in her mid 90's, always made this for our work potlucks! She used cherry pie filling, served in lovely round cut glass dish, with maraschino cherries in middle.
I have added the cottage cheese, and tastes delicious!
Love these kinds of recipes. Thank you for reminding me of them.
You are so welcome!
Love it, thanks.
I just made a “No Bake Eclair Cake”, also from that era, too.
The recipe is here on RUclips.
Sounds great!
My mom made it too!! We loved it
Drop. Recipe for us.
Looks delicious
I love your format & the great recipes you present. I remember this dessert salad from when I was a kid. Dissolving 1t unflavored gelatin in 2 T boiling water & adding it to your whipping cream before whipping will help the whipped cream holds it's volume & it doesn't "melt" so fast
Thanks for sharing!
Wow and WOW, does that look cool, fluffy and delicious! I want to make it using cherry pie filling.
As you strained the pineapple I remembered doing that under my mother's direction! 😊
It looks scrumptious.
Just hand me the bowl and a spoon! We didn’t have cool whip in the 50s here in Victoria BC, Canada. Definitely prefer earl whipping cream. You know, this would be really tasty on a slice of cake or even on strawberry shortcakes.
A mold would take that right back to the 50's for real. I loved making molded desserts when I was younger. I yearn for those simple days again
I might put mine in a graham cracker pie crust. Looks so delish!!
A lot of memory here!!
Your husband cracks me up reaching for the pecans 😊
I love older deserts they are simple and everyone loves them thanks for your videos to you and your hubby 💖
This would be great with coconut in addition to the pecans. My mom made this with pecans, coconut and mini marshmallows (for Easter she would use the multi colored)
Love this dessert
