I wrote 8 songs all on one CD back when I was 19 or 20 working in a music store. I always stayed after hours and played around. Every one of those songs had chords and f/x like these. No lyrics just instruments. Guitars, bass, keys, strings, drums, and other percussive instruments. Very atmospheric/relaxing/deep thoughts stuff. I look back at it now and think... “Damn I’m more depressed now than then!” That type of music/songs always get me.

I think I have played simpler version of a lot of these. That's cool seeing how to do full 6-string shapes, especially with open strings mixed in.
For C’Est la vie, Greg Lake used the Dm at the 5th fret with just the 1st finger at the 5th fret. Love the Erie sound.

Sad, haunting, complex, and interesting chords. Typically, these types of chords employ close intervals (2nds), and are usually achieved by using open strings or big stretches with the fretting hand. But, there is another way to achieve a similar effect without the big stretches. That is by playing a harmonic on a low string using some advanced right hand techniques. Lenny Breau was famous for these kinds of chords. Tommy Emmanuel does some amazing cascading arpeggios mixing harmonics and regular notes. And, there are ways to tap the harmonic notes instead of plucking them. Darrell, I think this would make for a great, though advanced, tutorial video. But, I know you could make it accessible for many guitarists.

As always great stuff, Mate :) I guess lots of songs use these, but they reminded me of 'Ministry Of Lost Souls' by Dream Theater. I've been learning to play this one for a while now and discovered a couple of great chord shapes in the process.
