My speed doesn't increase when going into high gear. From 9:5 to 1:1 it slows down... Trying to think of reasons

If there is too much torque the whole engine will lag down. Generally unless you do the full math, I just experiment with gear ratios until I hit the tipping point there it is lagging down the engine. If you need more power you could run dual engines!

Always remember a clutch needs to be sent a number from 0 to 1, with 1 being fully engaged. You can do this with a constant number, with a number pad, or with a throttle, to name a few ways.
