This was a very special movie for me that just had my emotions smiling the whole time. I'm very glad I decided to watch it. Thank you for watching with me! 💛 As a heads up, I didn't realize the same actors re-appear in the other two movies. I didn't look up the other two films so wasn't sure if they focused on different characters or not. I definitely want to check out the next two to continue on this journey of Jesse and Celine! EDIT: Here is my reaction to Before Sunset: ruclips.net/video/CeSflMbXgvY/видео.html And Before Midnight will go out on the channel in June 2023.

being of their age, it was special for me to screen the last of the trilogy during my time as a projectionist. seeing them grow over the years and facing their age specific experiences connects so much more than any other indie film. i would highly recommend finishing the trilogy in your private time, if public interest remains low.

Thank you for making a lovely reaction. The Before Trilogy is something special (and so unusual to make a trilogy where there are 9 year gaps between filming each one). They are the kind of movies where your viewpoint and favourite changes as you yourself age. They're great to rewatch as you hit a new decade to realise how much you have changed in that time.
I like the thought that when we see the different groups talking in the cafe, we could have just changed to following one of them instead. It would have been a completely different movie yet still interesting.

I always wondered how these films never got more popular, and then it dawned on me: They're like diamonds in the rough, and the older I got, the more I realized that they don't pander to a society that is all about instant gratification, selfies and likes and clicks. These movies are about, real human connection, emotions, experiences and thoughts. They're about nuanced reaction, being patient and holding attention to what someone else is trying to say. I was lucky enough to be the same age as the characters and grow with these movies...they are special.

I watched Before Sunrise when I was 20. FELL IN LOVE. I felt like it spoke to me. Then I watched Before Sunset when I was 23. Then I watched Before Midnight when it came out that same year when I was 24; it reminded me of the way my parents fought. I resonated so much with Before Sunrise. After a few failed relationships and a couple of ended engagements, I decided to rewatch the trilogy at 29. And Before Sunrise seemed so far away and whimsical, and Before Sunset really felt grounding and Before Midnight a little bit scary and melancholic. These movies will mean differently to you at different times in your life, and I think that's part of the magic of this trilogy.

I went to Vienna on my own a few years back and went to most of the filming locations. I had the script and read it at the different spots. Funny thing is for one of the days I ran into the same couple at two spots, they were clearly doing the same as me. No big romance but cool little moments. At a park near the bridge where they meet the play people, I chatted with a couple. They were just chilling on the grass and he had a twelve string acoustic so I had to start talking to them and he played a bit of Blackbird for us. Then when I went to the nightclub where they get the wine it was so dead I left right away. But went into a tiny bar across the street of locals. It was like they took turns making sure I had someone to talk to. Eventually ended up chatting with the owner.

So excited to go on this journey with you as you continue the saga of Jesse and Celine! I think everyone has their own favorite as each film corresponds to vastly different eras of one's life. Missed connections are fascinating. On the one hand it's sad you never got to discover that relationship. But I'm more of the belief that maybe it was fate. I think the ache you experience is just as valuable an emotion and can teach you just as much.

I think you should definitely watch the other two movies in the trilogy, especially since you loved this one so much. The Before Trilogy, to me personally, is the best romance story told on screen. It never feels fake or constructed. Hell, these movies don't even really have a plot. It's more like literally just watching two people having conversations and falling in love.

One of my favorite films of all time. Been waiting for someone cool to react. So glad you took the plunge! loved seeing you fall in love with the film.
I saw this in the theater when it first came out. I was the same age as Jesse and Celine. For nine years, there was just the one film, and no one knew there would be more. Nine years later there was a surprise sequel and it made me so happy!!! No spolers: I think the sequel is even better than the first, and the final scene is one of the best movie moments of all time.
It's been such a joy to have Jesse and Celine be my age every time I got to check in on their lives. I'm so glad you've been touched by the love of this story. Thank you for sharing this, and I can't wait to watch Before Sunset with you! You should probably wait nine years for the full effect, lol!

I have watched these movies many times, and I can tell you that the first and second are fantastic. Men like romance as much as women do, after all this movie was directed and cowritten by Richard Linklater. Men just don't like to admit it because it's not considered masculine. Personally some of the most vivid memories and greatest regrets in my life are similar to your story of the man on the train. I worked with a woman I had fantastic chemistry with. We had witty exchanges and inside jokes and we constantly stole glances at each other. So much so that the "will they - wont they" was the talk at the water cooler. Alas, she was already married. To my shame I will admit that I considered it anyway. Then one day I met her husband by accident at random, we were introduced and he said he had heard of me because his wife (he put a little emphasis when he said "wife") had spoken of me often. He seemed like a nice guy and I could tell my interactions were inappropriate. I made two choices on the spot. One, never do that. Second, I was sitting on the fence about changing positions in the company and that tipped it. Later I moved away and never spoke to her again. I frequently think of her though. She is still married to the same man and has 3 kids now. Good for her. 🥲I loved the reaction I think you did a fantastic job. Keep it up.

It's hard when there's a genuine connection with someone like that. It's why I am kind of against the idea of we are supposed to be with one person forever. It's unrealistic. We can have connections and be attracted to many people!

@@kaiielle Although I think you're probably right about that. I don't know how that would work. Because it's rare for both parties to fall out of love simultaneously. Just getting the chance to watch this today. Life conspired against me. This is definitely a true reaction watch when it’s so dialogue heavy. It was nice to spend the time smiling along with you to the film. Great job editing. I think this film should appeal to everyone. We should all be able to relate either from experience or hope to a moment of instant chemistry. The characters feel real, the story timeless. I first saw this not knowing a follow-up existed and then when the third came out I was very intrigued to see what the story would be. I do recommend putting some space between each film. They are intended to capture certain moments in life and approaching them each separately for the first watch is probably the best way to do it. I look forward to the next reaction for sure. miss the 90's this movie showed human interaction at its most organic, which has been lost today! this generation has been too inundated with tech, and superficiality and less interaction but more of instant gratification. I was lucky to be in my late teens in the 90's. as I lived throughout Europe and taking odd jobs; it was such an amazing time of discovery and meeting new people that became amazing friends to this day. I just love the way the director let Jesse and Celine allow their relationship to grow in a short time, but its growth is so real and believable. one of my fave movies of the 90's.

Phenomenal film and your reaction is emotionally and intellectually great to see. I think it's the best reaction to this film I've seen. Reminds me how great films can be of so many types, and though I think it has some classic Linklater self indulgence, I warmed to both characters so much, and I almost wonder if this film would be an even more powerful one without the sequels. This movie just perfectly encapsulates the thrill and joy and uncertainty and exuberance of a new relationship in youth. Reminds me of my camp girl friend, and how we knew it was fleeting, and that added a certain bittersweet edge. I also watched this for the first time with a girl I reconnected with at my 10 year reunion, and that's another nice warm bit of nostalgia at this point.

And they made up the script as they went . Very much like this movie. And then they edited it together into a movie. Nominated for best picture. The mother won an oscar. This is a beautiful movie and I'm SO happy that you watched this one! Such a sweet, sweet film. Your face watching this was.....adorable! There's no other word for it! We all know how you feel! 🙂 Linklater has some great, great movies: his first one, "Slacker" defines 90s indie film, his second one "Dazed And Confused" is fantastic, like taking a time machine back to the 70s (it's a 70's "American Graffiti", another must-see, George Lucas' first - and best - blockbuster hit movie). I'm sure you've seen "The School Of Rock"! His NEW movie, "Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood" is a beautiful animated film about his own memories of the moon landing! It came out at the end of last year, really worth seeing! He has two other great animated films as well. SO HAPPY I SUBSCRIBED! You are a great reactor! Intelligent, insightful, articulate, sensitive, you have a great sense of humor, your face reveals how you're feeling about the movie.......I hope you're having fun because it's a blast to revist these great films with you! PS: I hope you cross the 80s edge and hit some classics from time to time, at least from the late 60s-70s, if not before. There are great movies that communicate and entertain across time from all eras, going back to the earliest silent era.....and it's a life-affirming thing when you find a movie that's a hundred years old (or older) and it's as fresh, relatable and entertaining as anything you've ever seen. I didn't really like this movie when it came out but after the second one, in context to that, this became one of my favorites. The second one I think is a far more superior movie, maybe because as much as I appreciated the dialogue in this one the characters seemed far too much up their own asses (pardon my French), whereas in the second one there's much more weight behind their interactions.

So your theory is that during the night in the park Celine decided to take off her undershirt from beneath her dress because it was so hot that morning?
    I love these films.

Did you know that it's possible to sleep in barely any clothes or fully naked without having sex with the person next to you? Shocker, I know. 😂 So yeah, I still hold true to what I said. They did not give any explicit confirmation on what they did that night in the park, and it leaves it up to the viewer to decide. 😊 Now if it's confirmed in the next film, then cool!

@@kaiielle Sorry, I was just trying to be cutesy in pointing out a detail you may have missed, and it came out too contentious? I agree that it's left unanswered, but I think it's heavily implied yes. But it's fine to not know, as the film's far more romance than the physical nuts and bolts.

@@grife3000 Sorry, I didn't recognize the cutesy-ness of your comment! (The struggles of the internet! And I receive a lot of nasty comments about my opinions so I thought that this was poking at that.) Thank you for clarifying what you meant. Yeah, it can definitely be seen as being implied. I do prefer the conversational focus on this film instead of the physical aspect, that's for sure!

@@grife3000 My two cents, for whatever it's worth. If I put myself in the position of the Jesse character I wouldn't have done it unless Céline truly insisted on it. Not because I wouldn't want to, but because in a park at night, after walking around all day in the heat doesn't scream special to me. More like rutting in the grass while smelly. And if I had a deep affectionate connection with her, and felt about her the way I think Jesse did, then I would want it to be something special and not tainted by rushing things because we were on the clock. I will gladly admit I tend to error on the side of practicality though.
