I've fallen in love with Sanwa.. After I've seen your PM8a review, I immediately ordered one for DC. I need a clamp meter as well for AC, so I'm thinking of getting this one. I see the tips are still gold. That is such an awesome touch!
Always glad to see the Taiwan build quality, especially in an AC specific device. As has already been said I would think they could include a back light and more audible beeper & better resistance function in this price range particularly when working with AC, but I cant really fault it for no DC function as it says right on the device AC CLAMP METER so you have to consider it a device with a specific purpose - though oddly by coincidence the first letters in the model munber are in fact "DC" - lol - but thats very likely for "DC Clamp". One thing, one of the most common uses for these clamp meters is HVAC which always includes motor and start up cap testing so that would have been a logical inclusion in this meters $85 MSRP, again it gets down to your specific purpose with this meter. What we could see of the input protection looked respectable and the Taiwan / Sanwa design and build quality always has that air of dependability when working with AC voltage and amperage.
good for general electrical troubleshooting but if this were my first clamp meter, I’ll probably have to buy another clamp meter with more features (DC voltage & current, capacitance measurement, etc). I think this meter is made only for specific customers, Maybe for entities/organization that has strict regulations and doesn't want to bother testing and documenting other unrequired parameters.

Yes, Sanwa does manufacture some of its test equipment in Japan. The others are in Sanwa factories that adhere to Sanwa production standards in Taiwan and China.
Sorry, I can´t get who should buy this clampmeter? Only AC and Amperage up to 600 A - that would be a professional electrician in a CAT IV enviroment ( power supply of a house) or heavy industrial enviroment. But without matching CAT-rating and not independent certified? Highly unlikely... For usage with electronics, car electric and inhouse electric installation I stick to the Uni-T UT210E clampmeter. Much more versatile (Amps and Volts DC and AC!), hence more useful and btw available for half the price of this SANWA.

Yes, SANWA knows how to make test instruments..You'll be very happy with this clamp. I use fairly often, and it's never let me down!

Odd that it can't even read DC Voltage as I can't imagine that would add anything to the cost.

purely for electrician i think, but the accuracy is great, represents how Sanwa quality is. 👍

Without loud piezo and a decent backlight a clamp should not be manufactured. Accuracy is good though.
