It's due to the camera. seasons 5 and 6 felt so fresh and classic at the same time - i have no idea how dan harmon pulled it off even after losing half his main cast. i don’t think i’ve seen any other show that managed to not just bounce back from a bad season, but give us some of the show’s best episodes.
@@pietrolofria2100imo the first 5 episodes of season 5 (the Troy episodes) were AMAZING and then immediately after that everything seemed to sink into existential depression
Season 4 isn't the dumpster fire it's made to be, but season 3 is possibly one of the greatest seasons of TV. Going from 3 to 4 is kinda rough, but Community at its worst is better than most shows at their best. Still can't watch Troy say goodbye, always have to skip it. My emotions.....MY EMOTIONS!!
***** Wow, you are maybe the dumbest person I have ever seen. There doesn't exist a show that has so many layers of comedy. Sorry you aren't intelligent enough to have caught most of them.
The narrator accounts for maybe 15% of the jokes....and it does not exist to "explain" jokes, it creates them, and often times enhances them. I strongly suggest you try watching it again.
They are totally different person in real life. Allison is extrovert + always crazy meanwhile Gillian is introvert + more serious in real life. But both have great comedic timing good casting.
Jeff: Pride I mean, look at him. There's literally an episode where his ego explodes Britta: Sloth She's a slacker, armchair activist, armchair psychologist, and so on Annie: Envy Annie was jealous of Troy in high school, of Shirley when they were both security, and of anyone who was with Jeff. Troy: Gluttony If he woke up as a donut he'd eat himself without even thinking about it. Abed: Greed Often puts material things such as pop culture before the feelings of others. Often values parasocial and materialistic relationships over social ones. Shirley: Wrath A sweet, christian, loving mother... "that's nice." with thinly veiled rage issues. "watch it boy!" Pierce: Lust Eartha Kitt. eww.
All that talking about Friends' guest stars reminds me that I'd love to see Tom Selleck on Community. Because, you know, he just stood there and watched Pierce's brother being killed by mechanical spiders.
Look, I love all of Community but I dont think Season 5 was the best season. There were some amazing episodes, but no season will touch the sheer comedy genius the first two seasons had.
David Schwartsman Pretty good list, I just can't believe you think season 1 was so low. It's genius, perfection, and epicness were held in it's subtlety.
Event Horizon Productions I thought that it was way too much like other shows: always a main character, and two plotlines that will end up being fixed in 20 minutes, even if it was still really funny. Season 2, 3 and 5 were more unique, full of great parodies and references.
David Schwartsman Really? Season 5 better than season 1 and 2.. hmm.. not to sure about that, I get what you are saying about season 1.. but really that feeling starts to go away by episode 13, I'm still not digging the new season. I feel like it has its hit and miss episodes. Not a season I look forward to rewatching on repeat. I've seen seasons 1,2,3 about 10 times lol... season 4 was average with the occasional good episode, but still enjoyable. Season 5 is just so scattered, doesn't really flow. Season 4 Season 5 Season 1 Season 2,3
Jon Pro Yeah, I'd change my list now: Season 3 Season 2 Season 5 Season 1 Season 4 And I really like Season 1, but the themed episodes just started at the very end of the season. Before, it was just a regular (yet hilarious) show.
Jeffs spreading through all over them in a best possible way.. I wonder what did they mean.. Seeing those little smiles and eyes starting to shine. ALL OVER US..
Gillian is right - Season 5 was some of the best material in the entire show (and I say that as a diehard fan of the first 3 seasons). The ACB episode, Pierce's funeral, the Hot Lava game, the bulletin board, Abed and Hickey, and Meowmeowbeenz all back to back? That's like a Greatest Hits album by itself. Hickey is a really well written character, and I also appreciate the return of Duncan. The only downside is the loss of Troy, but at least he had a great send-off. And I love the continuing character development - Jeff realizing he can't go back to being a lawyer and becoming a teacher instead, Britta gaining independence and self-esteem and slowly embracing her goofier side, Abed growing his friendship with Annie and learning to live without Troy, and Annie growing up, taking charge, and becoming a smart, driven, professional woman instead of a tantrum-throwing lovestruck teenager. In a very Parks & Rec kind of way, every time I watch through all of Community, the characters feel more real to me, and I just feel proud of them for how far they've come - especially each show's resident "teenager who slowly becomes an adult without losing the essence of their silliness" (Annie Edison and April Ludgate respectively). It's beautiful to see them go from trying so hard to pretend to be who they think they want to be, to becoming truly happy authentic version of themselves. I think that's the mark of a really well-written sitcom - it's not just a bunch of one-liners and running gags, but the characters are plausible and relatable real people, too, and they change over time. I especially relate to Britta's journey from a virtue-signaling activist desperate to make a difference, to accepting her place in the world, embracing her authentically weird and quirky self, and finding a group of friends who appreciate her for who she is. (I'm still working on that last step myself.) You can really see the contrast of having that depth of writing versus not having it with Season 4 of Community - it would have been a passable sitcom, even a good one, by itself, but with these characters, it feels shallow and fake. Season 5 is a spectacular return to form, and it takes them barely any time at all to get right back to their full depth and complexity. Also, weird small detail, but after recently watching all of the original run of the X-Files, the cameo by Robert Patrick was an unexpected delight.
It's interesting that these 2 women are the same age. Alison was actually 24 at the beginning when she was supposed to be 20; which for actors is decently close. It's interesting how the way they're dressed and made up in the show can make them look so different in age.
@John Thomas i feel like the overused part of it is why it is "fun", it is said too much that it is somewhat losing its meaning. It is like "fatdog", an insider joke that might not be funny but is a thing community fan can relate with. In the end, is it what watching these video do? To relate with community and just have more love for the show?
@John Thomas in a way, the R&M saying of "high iq" is somewhat to feel like you are in a group of high class who understand it while the pheasant dont? It is just nice to feel belonged
@John Thomas ADD-er unitedddd!!! Im ADD too and I hyper focus on looking for the meaning in Harmon's work which might as well be nothing but I want to find meaning in my meaningless world.
It'll never be the same again with Pierce gone forever, but hopefully Troy will come back at some point, though I know Donald Glover wanted to leave for, I think a music career. So... maybe in the very final episode of the series? Or movie. Surely he'll come back for something at some point. Though he has no obligation too.
