It always strikes me when watching Community that the production cost must've been really high in relation to the number of viewers. Maybe I'm wrong, but in some episodes they seemed to put so much effort in to stuff that only served as a small joke. That's one of the reason i respect the show so much. There are so many other shows out there that just feel cheap and cliché, with minimal effort just to rake in the cash.
@@ADNAN0MNM they didnt go over budget, alot of episode were also cheap so they could spend more on others. but this information is what i read from other people so i dont know the facts.
@@dicedoom7162 From what I've gathered from interviews they were constantly telling Dan Harmon he was over budget, but they would always come in under by the end of the season. On the recent reunion episode of "The Darkest Timeline," One of them mentions that a producer said that they would lie to Dan about being over budget (presumably so he wouldn't get too overly ambitious with his episode ideas)
Just wanna thank the stop-animation team. This would've been so extensive, and it was a fantastic, dark and deep episode mixed with magic. Geniusly written.
Casual, normal behind the scenes thing about the conception and process of the episode and then they cut to Yvette's interview and she's dressed like Father Guido Sarducci. I absolutely died laughing at that. Only Community.
This very episode was my introduction to Community (that and Regional Holiday Music). People like to beat the word 'Smart' to death when describing this show, and they're right to do so, but Community (and even, to an extent, Joel Mchale's The Soup) just works so well for me because it veers from the obvious and stays entrenched in the strange and specific compared to all the boilerplate crap that infests the other networks
Well, the 2 paintball episodes they did after For a few paintballs more were kinda lame imo, probably because they were in the 2 worst seasons of the show (4 and 6)
@@007speedcuber I really enjoyed season 6’s paintball episode, it fit the tone of the season overall. Season 4’s paintball bit was less enjoyable, admittedly.
Art has many interpretations. I like the one where he's a Teddy bear because he wants to come across as a strong bear but is in fact sweet and in need of comfort. Both interpretations can be true
This is the same team that animated Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa which is one of the most poignantly beautiful, deep and highly detailed stop motion animated films of all time
@RubenDelight That's really nothing when you consider how much money goes into other shows. Charlie sheen was making 1.8 MILLION $ per EPISODE when they were filming. That's ONE person in a show with a full cast and crew
@BelieveTheCraze I couldnt. But for me, the measure of love for the show does not lie in buying all the merchandise related to it.However, I wish I could have gotten the DVD. I really wanted it, you know?
If you ever come back to this comment; I got the Blu ray complete on eBay for like 30? Keep an eye out. DVDs still go too! It's Vietnam now, baby! Viet-nam!
And they didnt have to have laika prudoction quality. They could have just made them actually like those animated cristmas movies(they had a little less quality then this eppisode to them)

That''s one of the reasons why the show got cancelled so many times. It was way too expensive to justify the rating.

@@dicedoom7162 true
i thought this when i watched it 5 years ago. now that its popular, it has paid off.

I love all these experimental episodes. These could happen ONLY on Community.
Or the Simpsons

Just watched this yesterday. I'm definitely in love with this show.

this video literally blew me away. what a great take on a great episode of a great show.
Holy shit, the effort they put into this episode was mind blowing 😱😱😱
So much work went into this.
They should have auctioned off the puppets or something and use the money for more paintball episodes.

this episode was truly a work of art, one of the first community episodes that made me cry
All these extras make me want to get the dvd, this is an amazing featurette.
It's an instant holiday classic
Wtf no pierce is symbolized as a teddy bear because he deserves much more love than he deserves. - From Dan Harmon himself.
reading that and knowing everything that happened backstage later makes me sad
Honestly I adored Pierce far more as this teddy bear. Every other time he’s just so mean

He deserves more than he deserves? Did they not have grammar 7 years ago?

You're welcome. You're welcome for everything. In the world
Younger Dan Harmon seems so much healthier and alive, these past 10 years weren't good for him.
He does seem way more animated.
alcoholism & failed relations do be like dat sumtime 🙁🙁🙁
So much work, and money spent on one episode... but totally worth it!

STAR BURNS MADE MORAL OREL!?
Yea, I actually knew him from Moral Orel before Community
So, just to do the math here, 55 puppets at ten grand a piece is $550,000. Just for the puppets. Wow.
Part two pleeeeeaaaasssseeee!!!
"Peirce" is spelled wrong on the sheet at 9:30 LOL
Does anybody know the name of the song at the beginning of the video? It was also featured at the end of the episode.
That show is awesome!
Video evidence of the show going over budget
like the dean's greendale commercial
I'm sorry 8-10 THOUSAND DOLLARS PER PUPPET? THATS SO MUCH MONEY
