I am heartily sorry Lord for the sins of my life and I’m sorry for the things I’ve done that’s caused hurt to others and to myself. I truly detest ALL of the sins of my life 🙏🏻
Father, thank you for this message about offering our confession for a deceased family member or friend or someone in particular. Also thank you for the explanation about Purgatory, it gave me a sense of relief and peace.
How right he is! You can also receive The Body and Blood of Christ, and celebrate or assist at the Eucharist for those who cannot, you can be annointed for healing for those who cannot be annointed, You can be sealed with the Holy spirit for those who cannot receive that sacrament You can offer an act of contrition on behalf of another sinner. After all, we are o be imitators of our Savior, who to the very end offered the sacrifice of perfect obedience on behalf of the whole human race which is was incapable of that perfection in obedience.
Thank you Father, for opening up Gods Holy spirit, within me. opening up in a new way, Confession for the Dead? never knew of it. Will use it now, even though I can only confess my sins here at home. No Priests available to hear confessions of the Elderly or Housebound. So I trust in Jesus and His Divine Mercy. May God Continue to Bless and Guide you
I just found you Father on You Tube and I’m hooked on your teachings! Thank you for this wonderful teaching about the Sacraments of Eucharist and confession!! I am going to do that next time I go……..✝️👍🏻💗
I’ve never heard of offering my Confession for the Souls in Purgatory. I’m going to do that the next time I go to Confession, hopefully next week. And also I’m going to meditate on facing the truth about my life, with the help of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, father. I got a lot out of your homily…a lot to think on indeed. You’re truly a blessing.
Whenever You Pray for forgiveness Remember what The forgiveness of God is . The foreknowledge of The Almighty before Time began of All The Good and bad by Us Mankind. YOUR SIN is FORGIVEN YOU God Loves You . It is no other than The devil who would split Your mind about That Child .
My late wife was not a cradle Catholic, but a convert. She had a great devotion to the holy souls in purgatory. As well as Saint Anthony and Saint padre Pio. I'm missing her. And I feel terrible that I wasn't there when she died.
I’m sorry to hear about your wife. How long has it been? What was her name? I’d love to include her in my prayers. Peace be with you and I hope you have a blessed day.
I will pray for you both. I can’t imagine what you are going through. Know that God is thinking of you and loves you. I can’t think of better devotions for a person to have.
Thank you Fr. Thady. You are just wonderful and so helpful with leading us to Jesus. Praise God for you and your Holy Priesthood and Ministry. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire you in all you do. Such an inspiration to all of us. Thank you so much, I have learned so much from your weekly talks. May God continue to bless, protect you, take good care of you and keep you safe always. Bernie.
Thank you Father. You are wonderful and a true gift of God. I am offering my confession for my dear so missed dad Goncalo and my ant Henriqueta as well as my grandparents God bless us all
When I was in my twenties, being curious, I read a lot of parapsychology books exploring life after death. According to those, people go through a tunnel of light and stay in a room for sone time, to heal from all wounds and frustrations of life before going to heaven and sing songs of praises to God and songs for those in Purgatory as music has a healing effect when in Heaven as well
Please pray for my intentions here in the Philippines. Also for my 99 year old mother under my care. I myself am old, aged 70, this December. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you for this Fr. I have never heard this before. I so wish I could go to confession for the dead with you, as I don't think our priests in SA would understand doing this?
He’s talking about going to Confession like normal but then offering it to God as an intercession for others. You could simply do that while praying your penance.
Thank you Father, I have been thinking of this very question, since I lost my wife to Motor Nuerone Disease, 5 months ago. We both loved our Lord and Saviour. but did not attend church. I must do this and seek out a nearby Catholic church.
Thank you Father. Never knew that there is another dimension to praying for those in Purgatory. I wonder how many Catholics actually do pray for those, who passed away. Protestants think that people go straight to Heaven and to them there’s no Purgatory.
Pray for me father. My beloved wife Reanna died yesterday morning at the age of 40. It was very sudden. And she was alone. I'm finding it hard to eat and sleep.
Dear Michael. I will pray for you tonight. It is a month since u posted this. I believe concidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous ! Share ALL your pain with Jesus and ask our lady of sorrows to comfort you. Pray the rosary in bed to sleep like a babe + Lyssa
Could one offer any Confession for a deceased relative? Thank you for another inspiring and informative video. I am learning so much about my RC faith. I am a convert so have a lot to learn.
The night she died , not knowing she was already gone, I was praying that the Lord would not take me before I could finish my duties here on Earth. I only will die with God's permission. Then I get a call from the coroner's office saying that she's dead. It's been a difficult day and I haven't really been able to absorb what has just happened to me.
Dear Fr Doyle, I am married to an Irishman from Kilkenny . Is there any chance you are related to the Doyle’s of Woodsgift. His mother grew up in Woodsgift, her name is Anne Doyle. Thank you and God bless you, Sharon Butler
Then May God Almighty in The Purity of His Goodness make Quick Work of ALL souls in purgatory. I have no desire to recourse of labor in Prayer to get them out . Not my problem to begin with .
We sre called to love the Lord and obey His commands. Getting baptized on behalf of the dead is a Later Day Saints teaching. 1Cor 15:27 mentions it but not sure it is allowed.
Matthew 8:22 & Luke 9:60 .. You can do the opposite of what Yahushua (Jesus) told us or do as he told us. And he clearly told us not to have anything to do with the dead. However, I digress .. your salvation is between you and Yahushua. May peace be upon you.
Father, Great motivation you have for the sacrament of confession. Your opening comments concerning the “baptism for the dead” leave me with more questions. Was that practice not rejected by the council of Carthage in 397? And as to the purpose of the mass; does not the Church teach that it is both a sacrifice and a sacrament and our main purpose for attending is to offer ourselves along with the priest’s (in persona Christi) sacrifice to the Father? Offering our confession for the soul in purgatory is a new one for me, can you provide direction to Church teaching as to instruction in doing this? Thank you, DD
There is a common perception that getting baptised on behalf of the dead was forbidden by the Council of Carthage or the Council of Hippo. It was not forbidden at either Council. What was forbidden with giving Holy Communion to corpses or baptising corpses. "The Eucharist shall not be given to dead bodies, nor baptism conferred upon them " Hippo "It also seemed good that the Eucharist should not be given to dead bodies. For it is written 'Take, eat', but the bodies of the dead can neither take nor eat. Neither let the ignorance of the presbyters baptise those who are dead." Carthage. I haven't time to answer your other questions. but if you study the teaching of the New Catechism on Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession, you will find the answers there.
I enjoy watching and listening to you, but this particular title grabbed my attention! It is unusual to see. Praying for the dead or going to "Confession for the dead" is not a Biblical or Catholic concept that I'm aware of. On the other hand, praying for the repose of the souls of the Faithful or praying for those who have died in Christ, most certainly is a Catholic or Biblical concept. There's a distinction. I hope I'm understanding and not misunderstanding the point of your talk. Luke's gospel talks about the parable of Lazarus and the rich nobleman. The time to repent and come to Christ is while we are still alive. Unfortunately, there is no remedy for the lost once they die. That is my understanding of the truth of the Gospels concerning the dead. Promising false hope or dreams is like dabbling in mysticism, and Tarot cards. It should be avoided.
There is absolutely NO Catholic teaching to get baptized "on behalf of the dead." We can pray for them and offer Masses, good works, & penances for the dead, but not be baptized for them. If we're in a state of grace and just going to Confession for venial sins, I suppose we could possibly (???) offer some of the merits of our Confession for the dead, although I have NEVER heard or read this idea anywhere else. It is a doubtful practice. God bless you and your loved ones.
Father, Christ tells us that He completed the work that the Father asked Him to do on Earth in His 3-year ministry. (John 17:4-5) *In Christ 3 -year ministry, He did talk about Hell, many times, but He never mentioned Purgatory once* *Do you think Christ made a mistake, or the Father did not want to share with His Children the fact that there is a real place called Purgatory* *Do you think that the Apostles made a serious lapse in judgment not telling humanity of the existence of Purgatory? Peter, John, Paul, Matthew, Mark, Luke, James, wrote Gospels or Epistles Letters and they never once hinted, alluded to, suggested, etc. about the existence of Purgatory* *The fact of the matter is that the Catholic Church invented (created out of thin air, without any Scriptural support) Purgatory in 1264AD, 12 hundred years after Christ death on the Cross* *None of the Faithful could read then, or had any education to speak of, and no one had the ability to question the facts presented around the decision, because the clergy ruled with an iron hand, especially in Europe* *This was a time when the Catholic Church was burning people, who disagreed with them at the stake* Purgatory is a man created Doctrine without Scriptural Support and it does not tie to the teachings of Christ. *It is also quite apparent that the Catholic Church doesn't think that the death of Christ on the Cross was sufficient enough for the Salvation of Mankind* *Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins (Romans 5:8). Isaiah 53:5 declares, “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Jesus suffered for our sins so that we could be delivered from suffering. To say that we must also suffer for our sins is to say that Jesus’ suffering was insufficient. To say that we must atone for our sins by cleansing in Purgatory is to deny the sufficiency of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus (1 John 2:2). The idea that those who are saved by grace through faith have to suffer for their sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation* The Church thinks that the individual must complete works or do things to appease God in order to earn your way into Heaven. (I'm aware of James 2:14) *Confession for the Dead, is just another superstition of the Catholic Church, to be added to the scrap pile of Superstitions of the Church, like Holy Water, beads etc. It does not have any Scriptural support, nor is it practiced in any other country than Ireland*
I am heartily sorry Lord for the sins of my life and I’m sorry for the things I’ve done that’s caused hurt to others and to myself. I truly detest ALL of the sins of my life 🙏🏻
Thank you from my heart for remembering us in Mass. God bless you dearly. Amen.
