@@lunarsabbatical7906 unless timothy cheruiyot or jakob ingebrigtsen decide to push the pace, most world 1500m finals have gone out like that though. Remember the Olympic final in 2016? Centrowitz came through 400m in 66, 800m in 2:16 (70 second lap!) and then it finally started cooking during the next lap, and he hit 3:12 with 300m to go. World finals were notoriously “sit and kick” for many years and still are most of the time.

100% agree. 57 seconds per lap pace = 3:33.75, and he’s the only college runner that can do that. Running 62.5 each for the first two laps opened the door for everyone’s kick. Only 1.5 seconds separated first place from 10th place = EVERYONE was kicking the last 200.

If you just take times as a predictor then no need to race, imo

Colin and Nico need to adopt Jakob Ingebrigsten’s way of thinking, even though it involves more pain. If your VO2 Max is better than everyone else, run the whole race at record breaking pace. It will run the “kick” out of everyone else. They aren’t going to out-kick you if they are 15 meters behind and gasping for breath with 150 to go. If Colin had run the first and second laps at 57 each, instead of 62.5 he wouldn’t have been out-kicked the last 20 meters.

Just gonna throw it out there that it looks like Colin Sahlman is not wearing a super spike. Not that it means a lot, but given the little bit of performance gain from them, it could have maybe helped a little with that form breakdown from him in the final 50m. Just speculation of course, but a thought to consider as a runner who noticed a difference after switching to super spikes.
