Makes me wonder if my bone stock 1ZZ corolla would do any better with a bigger exhaust… When I got mine the muffler was broke at the flange (extra loud), local shop welded in a matching piece just to gap where the flanges were, still doing fine. But that pipe on yours looked like my 650cc motorcycle, crazy! Tip for the tip touching (tongue twister lol), cut a little strip off of a silicone hot pad, then affix it to the plastic above the tip. I did this when I put a hitch on my Pontiac G6, the exhaust pipe would rattle against the metal (known issue for that hitch). Hot pad material put in between, no more noise. All the way past the muffler it won’t get hot enough to melt a hot pad designed for oven temperatures. Now to watch some more of your videos!
I think it'll free up some power with the 1zz too, although not as much as with the 2zz. I've seen forum posts of 1zzs making around 140whp with intake, race header, and free flowing exhaust. Not huge numbers for sure as the 1zz doesn't make great power naturally aspirated, but it's enough of a bump to feel a difference. I've never thought of using a silicone hot pad, I might have to look into that! Thanks for the comment and support!
I have a full custom mandrel bend 2.25' exhaust on my 1zz, paired with a dc header and hps intake. Its night and day difference. never dynoed before and after but I can now definitely merge into a highway without any problems.
@@WillChang For me, it was mostly cost - performance was a bonus. My catalytic converter had died and it was cheaper to get a Magnaflow catalytic converter plus exhaust, than having local Toyota dealership replace.
I've searched around before, definitely a difficult part to find. I've been looking more at turbocharging the 1zz instead of supercharging but if I were to find one I would definitely pick it up!
Keep it going with the xrs videos y have one my self and am modifying it a lot too you give me a lot of ideas too i can give you some advice too! I have my xrs crashed i have now a 1zz the same color and i am swapping the trans soon to manual so!!
Awesome! I've been looking to manual swap my '07 Corolla at some point too! Feel free to DM me on instagram @willhchang, best place to reach me besides youtube comments
My corolla ce had the same thing going on with the exhaust. I got a bolt on axel back exhaust but when I went under the car to unbolt it I noticed there were no bolts and it was welded. And then I cut it off and cut off the mounting flange on the new exhaust but then I noticed the pipe was smaller diameter than it was supposed to be and it was 2 inch piping all the way up to the resonator so I just had to clamp the stock muffler back on again and my next project is to go under there and make all the piping the correct diameter so I can install the new exhaust. Seems this is semi common practice with questionable muffler shops
Interesting, probably common practice among the cheapest exhaust repair shops, I mean they're cheap for a reason. Are you planning on clamping or welding the new correct size pipe on? Shouldn't be an issue either way just curious!
My brother has a welder so I'm gonna try my hand at it but I'm gonna get some scrap pipes to practice on and if I can't get the hang of it I'll just clamp it
Hey man just wanted to say you inspired me to mod my own toyota corolla from your toyota modding videos! I wanna get into cars and start doing these mods myself you have any reccomendation for a Manuel project car?
Glad you could find inspiration in my videos! For a manual project car, what do you want to get out of it? Straight line speed, track/autocross, stance or something that looks cool, etc. Lots of good options out there but I couldn't really give you recommendations without knowing what you want!
Hey I got a bad catalytic converter in my 03 Corolla LE and I'm wondering can I just cut the cat out and get a exhaust shop to weld piping where it was and maybe make an 02 sensor hole in the new piping ? Or should I just get a universal cat and get the shop to throw that on ?
An exhaust shop can replace your cat with a test pipe, however this will cause the check engine light to remain on (Code P0420) and technically is illegal. A universal cat would work fine as well, and shouldn't cause a check engine light as long as it's efficient enough
I prefer the Magnaflow from a performance point, the TRD is just an axle back and it isn't free flowing like the Magnaflow is. However the TRD muffler still has a special place in my heart due to the rarity factor!
Depends where you live. Here in Colorado, I passed emissions testing with an aftermarket intake but some places (especially California) can be quite strict, and will fail a visual inspection if it's not CARB legal. I'd check your local area to see if you can pass with aftermarket parts or not
@@WillChang Improving air flow with bolt-ons makes such a big difference on the 2ZZ. It's so bottled up from the factory for some reason. I sure miss mine!
that mid pipe looks like a cheap "oem" replacement you can buy on amazon then add a terrible local muffler shop hack job to the mix. Also wish mf would make this in 2.5'' instead. An xrs with simple bolt ons prefers 2.5''-3''. I managed to get 182whp on my old m-xrs with trd intake, custom full 2.5'' exhaust and ported exhaust manifold.
I’m with you on wishing magnaflow made it in 2.5” instead of 2.25”! Definitely glad I took this old midpipe out, quality was clearly not a concern to whoever installed it
@@WillChang I contacted magnaflow about this back when they 1st came out and they said 2.25' was the optimal hp/tq size. Sure maybe on a 100% stock car, but if someone is doing exhaust they're probably doing air ntake and a few other mods. Real world dyno by actual people saw more gains with 2.5 even on a stock car (myself included) and depending on supporting mods up to 3' on a normally aspirated 2zz words best. I got my first 2zz car back in 2003
I want to get my hand on a Toyota Corolla. XR is very popular car Japanese me the motor I like the motor, the red and black interface gauges the loud exhaust, Toyota Corolla.

If I put modified intake take the original one out should pass inspection right?

Why can’t I hear your lift kick ?
I have a MWR reflash that engages lift at 5800rpm, sometimes a bit hard to hear on camera but I promise it's working great!
Lift is loudest with a 3 inch intake, needs to be reflashed though. Lift is loud even at 5800, probably just as loud as injen at 6700.
