I agree, they pull all different music fans to their live shows, but when they get in they're they're all the same, oddly gyrating meat-mass. It's quite beautiful lol
That calmer section with the first solo (well, especially the solo) absolutely screams Allan Holdsworth (RIP). The most influential (Jazz) guitarist that no one's ever heard of. His footprint is all over modern Metal. If you wanna check out a band kinda like Meshuggah but also different, give Car Bomb a listen. They go really crazy with pitch shifts and tempo changes but it's a great thing to listen to while working out ^^
Yup they are the originators of “djent” their drummer Tomas Haake is one of the most respected drummers. They utilize 4/4 a lot but the way they manipulate it is whats so impressive. Check out bleed - meshuggah (drum cam)
Weird time signatures are kinda their thing, they might have not invented them but they sure utilize them like no-one else. Edit: Yes, they were ahead of their time, and basically invented the djent genre.
@@31TV_TX djent was created by bands trying to recreate what Meshuggah did and/or do. Meshuggah are much more extreme prog that djent.
It's actually written in 4/4 in 4, 8, or 16 bar sections. The riffs within these sections are irregular in length, so they phase over the 4/4 bars. Also they hate being referred to as djent. Most of these "djent" bands write syncopated or odd meter riffs, but fail to really recognize what is going on with the cycling that is the whole point of the music.
Thats what I thought but my hearing is kinda bad due to years of not wearing ear plugs while at band practice (I know it was dumb) so I wasn't quite sure.
Meshuggah blew my mind back in 95 when I first heard this. I was a punk and metal fan for years by then... but I had heard the future when I heard this.
I think you would enjoy the song "Corridor of Chameleons" by Meshuggah. Their Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere albums are probably the only ones you would enjoy from this band, but if you dig those albums it is worth giving their newer stuff a try.
Meshuggah's whole thing is odd timed polyrhythms & polymeters on 8 string guitars + Allan Holdsworth style guitar solos. The older stuff is like very groovy Metallica, then then just kept experimenting further with more abstract ways of being abysmally heavy
For something right up your alley : Botch - "Transitions from persona to object" live in the final show (061502). Or "To our Friends in the Great White North". Botch are f**king legends in the hardcore scene. Their album We are the Romans is a huge classic.
Meshuggah are a wide catalogue, I don't think you would dislike much of what they do. The odd drumming is a staple, as well as the guitar style and vocals. if you have to do a hard category they're "the grandfather's of Djent metal". Most folks circle back to Meshuggah, and I would not blame you, however they are a band I can say is often imitated, never truly replicated. And yes, ahead for sure. New Djent metal is this stuff now, in variation.
Meshuggah was formed in 1987 in northern Sweden. Their early stuff is heavily influenced by thrash metal but with their own sound. Really downtuned guitars and odd-time signatures (apparantly it's usually in 4/4 but played really weirdly). This is from Destroy, Erase, Improve from 1995 and was groundbreaking as hell, there's nothing that sounded alike (7:51 is probably the first "breakdown" in metal. You can hear breakdowns all over metal now and especially in genres like Deathcore). Meshuggah never lost their magic, rather they continued to develop their sound to something we've never heard before. You should listen to Dancers to a Discordant System. Incredible musicianship. And they nail their stuff live every show. One of the best live bands in the world probably.
There's no one like Meshuggah. I was gonna get at you if you didn't like them cuz they're insane. You should do New Millennium Cyanide Christ next or Bleed Drum Cam or make sure its the full length song of Bleed because the official music video isnt.

I dont think they're in the same genre really, maybe they overlap a little into the same genre but they are very different in a lot of ways. But that literally doesn't matter, my favorite genre is Punk Rock and there are TONS of punk bands I don't like. Just bc one thing is enjoyable to you doesn't make everything with similarities appealing. But I definitely liked the latest Spiritbox song if you didn't see that reaction. Awesome track. A lot of it is I don't care for her vocals, I don't think they're very good. I also imagine you wouldn't care for the stuff I like the most either though. 🤷♂️
Not really Meshuggah created Djent as their own sound but a bunch of other bands started using it which started the whole djent thing but Meshuggah are a more groove metal based band with harsh vocals while spiritbox is just djenty metalcore
That is actually a really great question! The CASUALTIES are a very important band for the Punk Rock genre. They act as a gateway band for the younger "aspiring" punkers. They have the look and a relatively deep catalogue of albums to dig into and are actually OG Punk Rockers that are a little easier accessed than some bands and they have a pretty good quality product, though a little predictable and generic (and that is not always bad and is actually needed). That all makes for a very nice package, a great band that acts as a sample of what you are getting into. Then as you get a little older and your musical pallet matures, you veer into other sub genres in punk. All that being said, I have very fond memories of the Casualties and still like a lot of their songs but don't find myself searching them out very often if I'm not using it as the aforementioned introduction into the best genre of music in my personal opinion! Hope that answered the question for you, lol, I am long winded often...
@@31TV_TX Honestly I couldn't have said it better myself. I think I was 15 when I started listening to them and it opened up a lot of exploration into more punk and hardcore. I've listened to a lot of the newer meshuggah, but admit that I've heard very little of the older stuff. This is my first time hearing this song. I liked it a lot. Having said that, I think it might be the worst meshuggah song I've ever heard. This is quite a bit similar to what Sepultura put out back when they did the Chaos AD album. Meshuggah is way different today from what they were back then. They are more technical, heavier, and the vocals far more intense. I once read that they are the ones who revolutionized 9 string guitars, though I don't know if that is true or not. The main thing to know about meshuggah, especially today is their drummer, Thomas haake. Many people regard him as the best drummer there is. Those weird time signatures and the polyrhythms that you will later on discover are his staple. Almost nobody can do some of the things that he does. He's been known to practice a single song for 6 months before he even gets his own time signatures and polyrhythms down.
