The world needs more horror movie hosts
For sure. ❤️
Screaming Yellow Theatre on WFLD Friday nights and Creature Features Saturday nights on WGN. It was great to be a kid.
Rich Koz comes so very close, but never duplicated.
Love that Sven !!!
Another Chicagoland icon from my childhood gone, up there with Bob Bell, Ray Rayner, Frazier Thomas R. I. P.
blup1s Oh my gosh what good memories !!!!!!!!
Love them all, but I was born in '72 and Sven was off the air by '73, grew up with "Son of". Glad I can still find clips of him!
Bill Jackson too. He taught me how to draw cartoons on the B.J. and Dirty Dragon Show.
Went to his memorial service here in San Diego. We worked together on Sunup San Diego where he made it fun to go to work. A great tribute to a warm, fun loving, family guy.
It's amazing what you can do with a budget of 75 cents / show! :)
Yea now thats entertainment, i would pay good money for a whole collection of the original shows.
They used to reuse tape a lot back then
They still use most of the sound clips to this day!
Watched Svengoolie as long as I could remember as a child in Chicago...... Strange of what we remember from too many years ago to count.
R.I.P. Jerry. Don't take a wrong turn into Berwyn
Berwyn?!
I lived in Wabash Indiana, and watched the original Svengoolie. Man, those were the days! His son is okay but, it's not the same. 😊
Here in LA we had Elvira's movie macabre... It was cool too
Gosh, I remember Svengoolie. Those were the days. Thanks for posting this video.
I still remember laughing at SCreaming Yellow theater's annual broadcast of Attack Of The Puppet People. R.I.P. Jerry G.
In Dayton, Ohio, we had Dr. Creep, (Barry Hobart, R.I.P.) SHOCK THEATER, WKEF TV22. Awesome memories.
I do remember watching this on WFLD CH 32 jerry G Bishop SVENGOOLIE the original living in Aurora love watching 32 back in the 70.s great UHF channel back then had good signal clear picture from where I was
Mark Bobzien God that seems so long ago. I was raised in Chicago but moved to Berwyn in 72. I got a kick out of him when he said Berwyn! Hahaha
I watched Svengoolie in Connecticut on Creature Features in the early 1970s. It was on WHNB, Channel 30 from New Britain. Loved it, and recorded a bunch of them on audio cassettes, which I still have. And I still love classic horror!
You could upload them!
It's absolutely amazing to see the extent of Ernie (Ghoulardi) Andersons influence...When Jerry was at KYW in Cleveland, 'Ghoulardi' was the #1 TV personality in that market. I am very certain that Svengoolie was created because of Jerry's exposure to 'Ghoulardi..
RIP Jerry ! And don't stop counting alligators !!
P.S. I still have my alligator counter card
stay sick & turn blue, brother.
GIMME THAT SHOE!! superhost
I remember his weekly guest coffin openers including Roller derby queen Joanie Weston and harmonica player Johnny Puleo.
Svengoolie is uptight, he's alright he's out of sight.
I love how Berwyn was a joke back then, but I remember it as a paradise.
junior high we stayed up for creature features and this guy. love it
Jerry G. was a fixture on San Diego TV for decades. I had no clue about Svengoolie until after he died.
watched as a kid! still, my favorite horror tv host.
holy shit talk about memories , thanks for the clip
And people wonder why I'm so demented.
It's true. Jerry G. and Ernie were friends , and even though Ron Sweed assumed the mantle of "The Ghoul" in Cleveland , later , when Jerry G. was given the chance to star on Chicago TV as a Horror Host , Ernie gave him his blessing to devise a Ghoulardi - like character.
We will miss you Jerry.
R.I.P. Sven
Awesome, bring back memories.
I remember accidentally walking in to svens first show where some little brat gave me a hard time. It was a bare bones stage. Just Jerry sitting on a coffin.
R.I.P. Jerry I will miss you you brought a lot of laughs when you were Svengoolie
Still looks good to me!!
September 15, 2013 is when this legend passed away, sadly. 3 years to the day.
It was a great loss for true entertainment :(
I watched this show since it's start and to this day. thanx, Sven!
People have no idea how ground breaking this was
very cool! i grew up with the richard koz version and he's awesome, but very cool to see the original guy. it almost seems like they based the character beetlejuice heavily on him
'Jerry G' Bishop was a top 40 DJ at KYW in Cleveland, during the mid-1960's. Across town at Channel 8 TV, was 'Ghoulardi', played by Ernie Anderson...It's obvious from watching this that when Jerry got this gig, he borrowed 'Ghoulardi'.....But, that's ok Jer, everybody did !
I grew up in nw Indiana and 32wfld came clear as a bell when my parents would go out on the weekend id talk the babysitter into letting me stay up to watch oh those were good times
Rest in Peace Jerry G.
In Pennsylvania, we had Uncle Ted. I recently discovered the current Svengoolie on MeTv. After researching the horror host hall of fame after Uncle Ted was inducted, I looked this guy up...then for shits and giggles, just now I looked him up on youtube. He seems like a cool cat. Wish I could have seen some of his shows, but then I wasn't born until a few years later.
This is my type of show.
Thank You! Awesome!
Great Freakin' music out-tro.. love that band!
Wish I could get these too
Svengoolie aka, Rich Koz was a favorite of mine. Cheesey but funny. Just watched a video of him doing the weather casting on Fox 32 news Chicago. He was humorous on there as well. Ive lived in alot of towns in Illinios but never BERRRWYNN.
I love it.
If anybody interested i have vol.1&2 of Best of Svengoolie from the 70's,plus a couple of Son Of Svengoolie, email for info.
did not know about the original svengoolie.replaced by clevelands goulartie then by chuck and jon back to svengoolie.love the format never the less.total greatness thank you for all of it
BRILLIANT! THANK YOU!!!
I remember as a little girl, seeing him as the newsman, and then Svengoolie would come on, with him letting his hair down. It was unreal.
1960s Philadelphia children's afterschool TV host "Dickory Doc" was a union cameraman who was moonlighting as host for some extra pay. Frequently he would mutter exasperated nonsense words and phrases under his breath when interacting, between cartoons, with the puppets used on the show. This lasted until somebody's Italian grandmother watched an episode with her grandkids, and quickly detected that his utterances, in peasant Italian, were off-color.
ladys and glentermen the father of svengoolie!!!!!!!!
"no, how do you say that without moving your lips".....LOL! Love low budget tv....a thing of the past.
LOVE it! Gerry's original Svengoolie blows away all other versions! I still remember some of the movies featured on SYT.. They still stand the test of time - always will. We will always be friends on Facebook. Long live Gerry.
Sorry for adding on to this, but I can resist. He's DYN-O-MITE!
best host in world
RIP Sven.
I would love to see the Original episodes
Rest in Peace Jerry.
I DIDN'T KNOW SVENGOOLIE EXISTED IN 1970!
Berwin! He sounds like a vampire, from Transylvania. That's great! A hippie vampire!
R.I.P Jerry.
Im high af at 1:04 a.m. what the fuck did i stumble upon 😂😂
However, I try to never miss him!
Now I know where Rob Zombie got his look!
I grew up in the 70's and I had a pair of pants kind of like that. I think mine were green . My sneakers were red white and blue like the American flag.
Remember seeing campy movies like " The Brain That Wouldn't Die" on here.
I miss my childhood, The Innocence of my childhood Television 📺 The original Beetlejuice!
Ahhh Patueee!!
❤
@SMITHFRANK Last I saw he is the voice that announces the cases on Judge Judy! He's been in California for quite some time.
Never knew there was a original.
* He made Valentine Janicki famous! ☺
Q:"Why is Timothy Leary?" A:"He payed a buck a piece for em!"
Thanks. I always wondered what she was saying.
anybody in ct remember svengoolie from the early 70s the same schtik just pictures and voice overs called creatures features same guy?
😊
At first I thought he farted! Then I realized it was somebody else.
Death Grips - Spread Eagle Cross the Block sample in the background
Michael Hurley no...it was "Rumble" by Link Wray and the Raymen.
I got but 1 word for that classic clip: BERWYN?!?
Svengoolie(Rich Koz) just told me he's in san diego, although he has health problems right now, I hope he'll be ok
He ain't a sellout to me. Besides, he's announced for The Disney Channel and was announcer for the game show The Cross-Wits for I believe most of its run. Doesn't sound like he sold out to me. And if he's happy where he's at, then who are we to call him a sellout?
Just saw this, you can't say that about Chicago now day or nite. Just wondering why Rich doesn't have the Mayor by for a surprise visit. No makeup and he doesn't even have to call her by her real name but should say it 3 times before she comes out.
Svengoolie is uptight, hes alright hes outtasight....lol
Berwyn? I thought they said "more wind".
Just announced his death on WGN News. RIP
He reminds me of Rob Zombie.
Sorry, But IMHO Big Chuck And Houlihan later to become Big Chuck and Little John.
We also had Goulardi.
r.i.p. or berwyn
@SMITHFRANK He passed away.
According to Triumph the Comic Insult Dog. Bishop had to stop being Svengoolie when sadly he came down with an incurable case of self respect.
Does anybody where "Svengoolie" is today ?? ..(a.k.a.- Jerry G.Bishop )
who did the voice of the skull?
He ain't a sellout, man. And no one really asked if you like Judge Judy. We just simply said what he's doing now. We didn't ask anyone if they like the show or not. And besides, at least he's still doing announcing, is he not?
Dude, where did you here that? Jerry Bishop is alive and well. He's been the announcer for Judge Judy maybe since 1999.
Wow! Judge Judy? I did not know that!
Actually they’re different people named Jerry Bishop.
Did he have green hair and facial hair or was that the old lighting back then?
His hair was green. (He also wore the same green wig and facial hair when he made personal appearances.)
Why is Timothy Leary?
He's so much cooler than his son.lol
BERWYN???
Sounds different on Judge Judy
BERWYN????
Wherever hes headed just got less boring
