    The moment you play a remaster/remake and think
    “hey this look like I remember. No it definitely exactly looks like I remember.”
    Then when you go back to the OG and notice what a complete overhaul the remaster and remake did, you know that something was done right.
    That Prime Remaster is a technical marvel on switch, yet retains the originals soul and artstyle while updating and remaking all assets is just bonkers to me.
    And only for 40 bucks

      @@Kelphelp I just love that we live in an era where fans of the series, people who grew up playing them are developing the games.
      Prime Remaster is a love letter to the original Prime as much as Dread is a Love letter to Fusion specifically amoung other games. That devs even admit that they grew up with Metroid like with many Mercury Steam devs is bonkers. Nowadays the OGs like Sakamoto and Tanabe are Producers and Supervisors while fans are the developers. Metroid is in the right hands.
      After what “modern” Retro studios delivered I have no doubt in my mind that Prime 4 will be amazing

      Yeah, lol, it had been ages since I played Prime and when I initially watched the reveal trailer on the Direct I was thinking "Huh....looks somewhat cleaner, maybe nicer lighting", then I watched a comparison video and "Woah!....wow....Metroid Prime (the original) kind of looks like crap" then I remember that there was a time that it impressed me technically...and it came out over 20 years ago now....and I feel old.

    I was actually halfway through my thousandth playthrough of my original copy of the GC version on my Wii when this dropped. The visual overhaul is the best I've ever seen on any remaster...ever...and the game engine still holds up after all these years.
    I'm loving the new control schemes and have fallen in love with the dual sticks option. I had to use the 8Bitdo Ultimate and set the macros to remap the face buttons for the beam switching (felt more natural then holding X and using the D-pad) and the underside buttons for jumping & morph ball.

    So I haven't gone back to the Gamecube release of Metroid Prime since the trilogy version came out. With the remaster I gave all four different control schemes a chance. Dual stick is very natural but very annoying to swap over to beams (I know you can swap it around, but there's a few instances where swapping between visors is as necessary as the beams so I don't think it matters too much.) Hybrid with Gyro is fine, I'm just a curmudgeon who has yet to adapt to Gyro aiming.
    Pointer style is good, took adjusting from dual stick where shoot was the trigger but now it's for calibration instead. Like that both d-pad and right stick act like on the gamecube but trying to use the joy cons like the wii+nunchuck never felt as natural here as it did on Mario Galaxy.
    Finally classic, I have one of those Power-A wireless gamecube controllers and I was surprised, despite not playing the original version in over a decade I was surprised how much muscle memory kicked in and it just felt like I never quit at all...HOWEVER: that same muscle memory wouldn't budge from the changes made. Z not being the map and start not being the status screen I could overlook but that didn't stop me from instinctually hitting Z anyways, so you could imagine my frustration when I hit X to go into a tunnel...only to fire a missile OR WORSE hit Y to dispatch an enemy...only for ball time.
    My mind would budge from the original Gamecube controls even though it was just two buttons that were swapped. I had to stick with Dual Stick for a peace of mind.

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  Год назад +1

      For the button remappings I didn't mention but you can invert the button in classic so it feels EXACTLY like the Cube. The start unfortunately is map and not status so it's a big problem there
      Bro this is such a cool take on everything you've experienced both past and present in the control schemes! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts man!!

    What's crazy is they didn't HAVE to go this hard with it. They totally could have given us "Metroid Prime HD" like most of their other HD conversions, and so many of us still would have jumped on it. Instead we get a complete asset overhaul (that apparently required like five 3d modeling companies to make all the new assets for if you read the credits) with brand new high poly models, brand new terrain, brand new textures with gorgeous mapping, new fluid and particle effects, and a new lighting engine that includes HDR, scattering, atmospherics, everything. They _could_ have just given us an upscale, but instead they went out of their way to bring Prime fully up to current gen standards (or at least as close as a Switch can get), making it basically the best looking game on the console - and they did it all without compromising any of the art direction of the original. Absolutely fantastic.

    I hesitated buying this game for the 4th time, but after seeing this video i don't think i will.
    The remaster looks great in many regards, but i really don't like the new lighting system, the game now looks very washed out, the colors are desaturated, many shadows seem to be gone, some metallic surfaces like Samus' suit have lost their reflective properties, imo the darker visuals of the original looked better.
    Also, a bit nitpicky but the pulsating light on the cannon is a bit distracting for me.

    After the first waves of remasters I've become tired of the concept. I just think it's a waste of effort and a waste of money on the consumers part. Seeing Crash and Spyro in updated graphics was nice, but at the end of it all I didn't need it. I can just as well play the original. I also have a feeling that being swayed by nostalgia this easily is rather detrimental. For anyone who hasn't played MP1 on the Gamecube? An absolute recommend. But honestly, we all know that remasters are made for the people that have played the original.

    • @hisgrinningskull2122

      i think this kind of thing is nothing but a good thing…it’s great to have classics brought back for people to play easily without having to keep around old hardware or emulate them. especially makes sense to make old games as accessible as possible when they’re planning sequels for said games that haven’t been available for a long time and make it easy for newcomers to get into a series.
      the only thing i don’t like to see is developers spending time on remasters/remakes when they could be making something new entirely- though maybe this was a useful project for retro to be involved in since most of the original prime devs have left. having the new staff fully understand what made prime so great to begin with will hopefully help with prime 4

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  Год назад

      I'm not saying we don't need new IPs but there is Def a reason companies invest more in Remaster than new titles, since it's a guaranteed seller and very possible to get away with the bare minimum. It also gives another reason for newer titles to become more accessible as well so newer audiences can experience it. Crazy to think people born in 2002 can now experience that as adults if you think about it

    Glad it's great, still think I prefer the gamecube version. Like, the remaster looks great, but the reflections on the gamecube dude, phew, that shit is still timelessly atmospheric. I couldn't care less about the detail they added, for me they sacrificed the atmosphere you add that detail.

      I went to check some reflections (Chozo Ruins room) ND saw they took that off mostly because of the lighting. It's a shame but even then minor nitpick. But idk man I love RT but it isn't a one stop solution to making a game AAA. I prefer this experience without RT imho
