    I beat both primes on GC back in the day and beat the trilogy multiple times on Wii. Just last night I decided to play a bit of both to compare and I gotta say, the Wii version is superior for me. The level of control with the motion controls is so much easier and fluid. And I’m not a fan of motion controls ordinarily. Retro really did a great job. Also, I have a nice 480p adapter for my GC component port and it looks very good. But to me, playing the trilogy on my Wii U does still look better/cleaner.

    Couple of extra points:
    1. If you set you're Wii to 4:3, you get rid of all the cropping and extending issues, but your view will be limited to 4:3 like the GC.
    2. The colour differences are the result of the Wii U terrible analog to digital converter which shifts the colours of Wii games when using HDMI.
    3. The differences you mentioned are actually the differences between the original NTSC release and the PAL version (the Trilogy is based on the GC PAL version). The PAL version brought a lot of changes, enhancements and difficult rebalancing to the game and it's the definitive experience in my book (I mean Flagghra's music finally loops correctly and you can power bomb beam troopers, a huge plus IMO!).
    For a more in-depth coverage of the changes, I recommend checking out Metroid 2002 or The Cutting Room Floor page on the Version Differences of Metroid Prime.

      @@phazonlord0098 I have a hard time believing that. Flaaghra's music weights 647Kb. Gamecube for me for very petty reasons. The Visor, the look of the aim reticle- off when exploring and on during combat/aim and the variations depending the which visor module is active ( i don't have problems aiming and floating green cross hair on Wii breaks immersion for me) On Gamecube the power cannon has animations for all the beams and not just color and shape changes. For example the Ice Beam freezes over, Wave Bream starts arcing electricity, that kind of thing.
    Its the little details that make me feel like I'm inside a power suit: arguably the most organic/lore friendly HUD I have ever seen in all of life of gaming. This is super ridiculous but when Prime 3 came out I was desperate for GameCube port or a mod for HUD. It feels videogame and not power suit.

The 2D static effects would've looked terrible with the new pointer controls. They could've redone the effects in 3D but it would've likely being time consuming. The best Trilogy version control scheme I've found is to put the aim sensitivity on the highest setting, so you don't have to move your wrists very far to start turning, and combat isn't affected since lock-on will center your target on the screen anyways. Also turning off Lock-on Free Aim is helpful, since it replicates the original lock-on functionality and you don't have to manually aim at weak points which can sometimes be hit-or-miss. I also like swapping A to jump and B to fire, since the Wii B button is trigger-shaped and that feels more shooter-like.

    For those who don't know about this. There is a PC port of this game called Prime Hack. It optimises the Prime Trilogy for the PC and makes it playable with a mouse and keyboard. It improves the visuals, adds quality of life improvements like instant beam and visor switching, widescreen or even ultra widescreen support and much more. Even the Prime 3 motion controlls for the grappling beam etc work perfectly.
    It is the definitive way to play those amazing games and I highly recommend that anyone who has a PC that can run Dolphin (which is preatty much every PC nowdays), plays it. The installation takes about 5 minutes, following the tutorials. The only thing the users have to get by themself is a iso of the Prime Trilogy.

    I played the exact same version of Metroid Prime for the GameCube that you have, and I still prefer the Trilogy(Primehack more specifically). The lore is an order that makes more sense, and the added bloom if anything makes the lighting more immersive. I also find the Trilogy controls to just be more comfortable. Aiming with a single stick feels clunky to me. When I've played other shooters for so many years, having to hold a button to strafe feels weird. Trilogy by contrast lets you strafe with the analog stick on the Nunchuck(effectively the left stick) and aim with the Wii Remote pointer(effectively the right stick). The addition of spring ball is also really helpfu(once you have bombs), making the platforming in Morph Ball less frustrating. Yeah I love the GameCube controller, but that control scheme hasn't held up in my opinion. Beyond that, Trilogy also works better with the newer Primehack emulator, which adds really good keyboard and mouse controls to the game. I also mapped out a really nice modern dual analog control scheme for Primehack. You can map it however you're comfortable, but you really spend enough time tweaking it, you can do amazing things with the controls. You could easily homebrew your Wii U's vWii/Wii Menu, install Cleanrip, then easily dump your Metroid Prime Trilogy disc. Cleanrip works on GameCube as well, but that's a bit off topic. Primehack can also help fix the cropped 16:9 image with higher FOV as well. Default is 60 FOV, but I'd recommend trying at least 80 to 90. Again, I still prefer the Trilogy, especially Primehack. Nicely enough, Primehack will give you the best of both worlds for Metroid Prime. Beyond the extra features (FOV, custom control profiles, remap, etc), it lets you re-enable the GameCube features, such as the Beam Effects, and disable Bloom for those who hate it. Primehack honestly overhauled the entire Prime Trilogy for me, and it's now how I play those games.

    I just picked this Wii trilogy up yesterday since I no longer have a gamecube. It is frustrating that this game isn't compatibible with the Gamcube or Wii Classic controller if you aren't a fan of using the Wii remotes. When I played it for the first time last night those wii controls were a HUGE pain in the ass to get used to. I ended up making some configurations on the controls and after a while of playing I started to really dig the feel of it. My only complaint is when it comes to switching the visors and beams, that's where the Gamecube controller is better.

    • @Kelphelp

      R = Missle
      X = Jump
      B = Morph Ball

    I never got a chance to play Metroid Prime on the wii until recently. In saying that, I never played Prime 3 either and always wanted to. I got a wii a couple months ago and finally got the trilogy and was super stoked to play it. And when I finally did…man! I was not having a good time. Lol I wasn’t used to manually turning by aiming, and may arm would get tired and it felt super sensitive and…I was just too inexperienced with the wii.
    Gave up on it for a couple months and decided to retry it. This time with fidgeting with the sensitivity of the wiimote, moving the sensor bar further away, all sorts of stuff. It got better, but it still wasn’t working for me. Then…I found the solution. All I had to do was put the game sensitivity to “advanced” and holy god! I can play the game. Currently going through it and I’m having a blast.

      @@custybox1569 Ha, you remind me of when I thought that the Gamecube was more powerful than the Wii because of the games on the Gamecube having better graphics. But no, apparently the Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube, and apparently the switch is more powerful than them both. It's the developers that are getting more and more incompetent every year that make it seem like older systems are more powerful.

    Those sound effect differences are not from prime 3, theyre from the PAL version of the original prime.
    Also the trilogy version doest not have the charge beam effects like your gun freezing over when charging the ice beam, or the eletricity sparking unconrollably when using the wave beam.
    Other than those two things, good video 👍

    Idk if its because I have it on hard mode BUT I was watching a tutorial to get the electric Super beam
    the guy was using the wii and it only took him 3 missiles to get to the top
    I needed a super missile (5 misiles) or 6 individual missiles to get to the top
    the tutorial guy had about 50 missiles left while I had 10-20 missiles by the time we got to the top. I also had to go back to my spaceship to replenish my ammunition.
    for this reason I think the GameCube is harder. You recieve less items.
    I once saw a large missile ammunition (not seen on the game cube) the large ammunitions are worth 10 missiles. they also have small and medium worht 3-5 missiles.
    the game cube only has missile ammo (worth 5 missiles)
    maybe I am wrong but I have yet to see the other missiles.

      Another one has fallen victim to the differences between the original NTSC version and PAL version (which the Trilogy version is based of) of Metroid Prime. The PAL version significantly alters a lot of stuff from the NTSC version and one of them it's a more balanced difficulty than the NTSC version. Easier enemies on the NTSC version have more health in the PAL version (Baby Sheegoths and Drones) and harder enemies are more balanced (Meta Ridley last form is a lot more fair in the PAL version, with more health pickups drops and opportunities to stun him).

    the Wii version is devoid of some graphic effects, in the Wii version, water does not react to the movements of the character or the ball, the Wii version is devoid of some character reflections, the figure is not reflected in the ice or in the metal studs .Wersja Wii jest słaba.

    If I had to choose to play on GameCube or Wii, I'm gonna go with GameCube. While the free-aim is really great, it is more comfortable to play with a traditional controller. Plus, the GameCube versions have some skips that I either don't know how to do or are patched in the Wii versions. But, in my opinion, there is a better way to play. Prime Hack is really great. I have been playing through them on my Steam Deck using dual analog with gyro, and it's been an amazing experience. Best of both worlds.

    In regards to the colors looking off on Wii, that's 100% the fault of the Wii U. Wii U ouputs Wii games with a washed out look, almost like there's a mostly transparent white layer on top of the rest of the image. I've done some comparison tests and that's why I stick to a real Wii via component for gameplay captures these days. Wii U just does a bad job of displaying Wii games (and GCN games via mods).
