Easily a top 5 all time game, played it at only 10 years old in 2002 and still incredible today, could've been a Wii launch title and graphics were unreal for an early 2000s game
@@mitchmediak in terms of sales especially yes, the series is underrated. It’s not nearly as popular as Mario, or The Legend of Zelda. It really deserves just as much love as those other two franchise.
The OG was and is in my Top 10 favorite games of all time, with the new Remaster more than ever. I did not like Echoes, specially the dark world and the constant dmg, it felt like playing on a timer all the time, very stressful, not my cup of tea and the third entry finished last in my book, mostly cause of the gimmicky motion control scheme. Still great games and they tried to implement new mechanics, I give them that.
I am a casual nintendo fan. Meaning I have another main playing system. When I saw fusion was coming to NSO I immediately signed up. Hopefully Nintendo understands why they are suddenly selling Metroid Prime and NSO SUBS.
Fusion is in my top 3, but the SA-X loses a lot of that scare factor on a second playthrough once you realise it’s all scripted. The EMMI’s of Dread are a better, more lasting implementation of the SA-X concept imo.
Super Metroid isn’t just the definitive Metroid game, it’s likely the most refined side-scrolling platformer ever made. Easy to access, difficult to familiarize, and even more difficult to master, it contains layers upon layers of nuance that game designers are still trying to approximate nearly 30 years later. Limited only by the technology of the time in which it was made, Super Metroid is about as close to a perfect game as you can get. I’m glad that’s still recognized.
I have the same love you have for that game, but I have to admit, the most recent one is more smooth in terms of control. Tho, it remains my favorite, for the ambiance, the musics, the subtle way to inteoduce scenario without a word... It's a game that inspire love, a deep love, the love that keep creating so many metroidvanias games, because no other than this one embodies this better.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 Yup. I think it’s difficult to compare 2d and 3d games. But Super and Dread are easy to compare. And Dread is so much better in every way (except for the music).
@@TheAlibabatree I dont know why but dread jus looks bland/sterile. Im a sucker for pixel art and even now when i fire up super it looks amazing/alive to me...Yes the combat etc is better in dread but the world (way more variety in super),cooler/more variety of enemies in super, the graphics ( to me AM2R looks better than Nintendos version Samus Returns), the bosses, the atmosphere, the MUSIC,THE BEG with Ridley, THE ENDING with Mother Brain come on....its a no brainer super is still top dog in every one of these areas. The music in dread was total trash compared to SUPER by far the worst metroid besides maybe fusion? lol
@@peterc504 I prefer pixel art as well. And like i said before, the music in Super is god tier. But those two things dont make it a better game. I personally didn’t grow up playing Super, or really any Metroid games, so i have no attachment to any of them. The movement in Super just doesn’t compare to Dread. And more importantly, the level design is quite simply obtuse. Im not young, so I’m well aware that’s how games were designed at the time, but that doesn’t make it good. But, I suppose its a matter of preference. Some people genuinely enjoy being stumped for hours, running around, backtracking, trying to figure out where to go… maybe its a generational thing.
Prime 2 is at the top of my list. It took everything from prime 1 and added onto it. It also still holds up graphically, unlike the older gen games. I understand Metroid started as a 2d game, but the 3d Prime games are a near masterpiece
@@zaneheaston8254 The Light and Dark beams were incredibly overpowered, so the ammo system was there to make sure that you don't just spam them all the time. And an ammo limit made it so the combat was never about spamming your beams but rather strategize around them and made you think more wisely with your weapons. It's not grindy to get either. Shooting enemies/storage caches gives you plenty of ammo, not to the point where you can just farm them to keep spamming, but also not too low so that it gets frustrating
The prime games suck to replay, though. The movement is slow and clunky, and you have to switch beams every two seconds to open beam doors. There’s also not many sequence breaks, and the general item order is very linear.
My Personal Top 5 list 1. Metroid Fusion 2. Metroid Dread 3. Super Metroid 4. Metroid Prime 2 5. Metroid Prime It’s insanely hard to rank a franchise that consists 80% of insanely well done games.
@@fury_saves_world they’re about equal in my eyes but i personally prefer super because prime’s item collection is very back and forth feeling and annoying.
@@fury_saves_world I also put Super above Prime, and even then it's not my favorite Metroid game. I love Prime a lot but it has some awful backtracking at times. Super doesn't feel that way, it's just the controls that haven't aged well but its level design is still peak.
Metroid Dread is seriously soooooo good. It probably has the best overall gameplay in the entire series. Honestly it would probably be my favorite in the entire series if the music wasn't so BLAND and uninspired :/
@@fury_saves_world Super has developer intended sequence breaking. In prime you must use the ever living shit out of glitches to sequence break anything. Besides the backtracking in Prime is tedious. Prime 2 masterfully solved that issue I have like played Prime 1 like 40 times in my life. All of these games countless of times. And let me tell you how absolutely tedious some backtracking is. Especially the space jump boots, X ray visor, plasma beam and gravity suit. I played Metroid games so many times infact that I forgot my first playthroughs, so these games are ranked on personal enjoyment based on combat, backtracking and replayability. Fusion is on top due to a bias, but as for Dread, Prime, Prime 2, Super it’s based on personal fun and replayability That being said. The remaster rocks, but then again prime rocks overall. Like I said it’s incredibly difficult to rate a series which consistently pumps out 88-97 games
I would've switched Samus Returns with Zero Mission, but it's incredible how high the bar is in this series where almost every mainline game is really good.
@@fury_saves_world That's literally what the dude is saying. Samus Returns is listed higher than ZW on this list. I personally did not like Samus Returns AT. ALL. Couldn't believe how good Dread turned out, considering it's from the same team.
@@travistotle o fuc, lul, my memory is trash but right on, then. Yeah fuck them running Gamma Metroids, deep and hard-AYO?🤨 But ya lmao I was shocked abt that too, they do like to re-use the shit out of bosses in both but Dread was just so much better. Ridley and Raven Beak were equally great final bosses though. Actually SR had great one-off bosses but they literally only had fuckin 4 of them. Also BRUH THE EXACT SAME MORPH BALL PUZZLE FOR EVERY EXPANSION FUCK THAT SHIT ONGG
I liked Fusion more than Super. Yes, it's a bit less exploration, more direction. But not a single section was boring (like Maridia in Super). Also controls are refined to perfection in Fusion.
Super metroid cant be finished without researching on youtube. i was stuck in an area because i never knew that the shine spark is mandatory in that one section after defeating the lava boss. its clunky as well. So yeah, fusion for me.
@@rhovenom04 "Can't be finished" is hardly true at all. The game has been out for 30 years, I suppose those who beat it 30 years ago needed to look up how to use the shine spark on youtube as well? Oh wait.. Also, the game teaches literally teaches you how to use that ability.
@@RolandsLeftHand Where? I played super metroid for the first time 2 years ago and there were no instructions IN GAME on how to use shinespark. Regardless if its there or not, the point is, fusion is more streamlined. Imagine the struggle of 90's kids playing the game with no guide or friends.
@@rhovenom04 watch the load screen for hints at hidden abilities. Also, if you can’t finish Super without a guide, sounds like a skill issue my dude. Super is goat and I fucking love fusion.
I played super metroid last year and the shinespark is teached by an alien bird that can do the same thing, I didn't see it on youtube. But is preety hard the first time.
My personal List from the games I’ve played: 10 Metroid: has anyone that I played this game in the past 20 years really enjoyed it? 9 Other M: A decent action game that makes a lot of stupid story decisions. 8 Zero Mission: why do some people like this game so much? It’s 10x better than the original and is an amazing remake but as a Metroid game it’s just so average 7 Samus Returns: 95% of the hate this game gets has nothing to do with the actual game. A great stepping stone for Dread and is very fun to play 6 Super Metroid: I’m sorry if this placement physically hurts you and I acknowledge that Super Metroid is a feat of level design genius but it’s just not that much fun and unintuitive 5 Corruption: Even the prime games at their worst are still amazing. The motion controls are tacky but the bosses and levels are fantastic 4 Fusion: weak level design and exploration is made up for by being atmospheric, hard, and very fun to play in an arcadey sort of way 3 Echoes: I’m convinced you have to play this game 2-3 times before the frustration goes away and you see it for the most bold and interesting game in the series 2 Dread: it’s just peak 2D Metroid and is nearly flawless 1 Prime: it’s perfect. Just go play the remaster right now
Yes, Super Metroid ranked so low physically hurts me lol, The main reasons i play these games are for the exploration/Atmosphere, And Super Metroid is by FAR the most atmospheric 2D Metroid title, Love the different biomes and absolutely PEAK music that accompanies them. Gameplay wise it's every bit the same as the likes of fusion, Only advantage Fusion has is ledge grabs, And that makes no difference to me personally. I seriously fail to see how it's not "Intuitive" Enough for you lol, If you could elaborate that'd be great cause I can't think of anything negative, It was incredibly intuitive for its time, Enough to where an entire subgenre of games spawned from it. Masterfully interconnected world with absolute top tier environmental storytelling, Lightning fast saves, Awesome power ups that can make for tons of interesting discoveries, Yeah exploration wise or gameplay wise I really can't think of anything "Unintuitive" About Super Metroid in comparison to the likes of Fusion. Maybe the Menu/Map system? But still that's not that bad by any means & DEF isn't enough to make the game unfun. Overall tho, Other than Super Metroid being so low, I actually think your ranking is SOLID AF, Prime is my favorite game of all time, So I absolutely agree with it being #1, I would have 1. Prime 10/10 2. Echoes 10/10 3. Super Metroid 10/10 4. Dread 9.5/10 5. Corruption 9/10 6. Fusion 8.5/10 7. Zero Mission 8.5/10 8. Samus Returns 8/10 9. Other M 7/10 10. Metroid 6.5/10 Also, Even tho it's not really comparable with the others, Metroid Prime: Pinball is surprisingly VERY fun lol, Just played it for the first time this year and for what it is, I think it's a solid 8/10. Very cool pinball experience.
I love the fact that I got into this series already as an adult, so there's no nostalgia attached when I say that the Metroid series is one of the best franchises to ever come out. I tried playing Super Metroid as a kid and it didn't land with me, I was really confused all the time, so I dropped it and never played another game in the franchise. Then, fast forward to, I don't know, 15 years later and as I was watching The Completionist's video on Super Metroid, I got the urge to try the game again just because of how passionate he was when talking about it. And then it clicked and I instantly enjoyed the game. Not only that, but I got on such a roll that after beating it I played Zero Mission, Fusion, Samus Returns (and the unnoficcial AM2R) and Metroid Prime, all back to back! I went from only knowing Samus from the original Smash on the N64 to becoming a huge fan of the franchise in less than a year, such is the power of this franchise!
@@FluffyMustache I sure did and it surely is, it instantly became not only my favorite 2D Metroid game, but my overall favorite Metroid game as well, it's nothing short of amazing!
My mom bought me this game 30 years ago (super metroid). It was sooooo expensive here in Brazil and we didnt have much money. I love it. I even bought recently a snes and and nice old tv just to play it. Real deal. Dread and prime 1 are also great
I’m one of the weirdos who thought the Prime series got better as it went along, so Corruption was my personal favorite. But I definitely agree with Dread and Super being so high on the list.
@@JustinPennito Same here! Prime 2 improved on Prime 1 by including an actual story (Prime’s story-let’s face it-was quite bare-boned). And Prime 3 improved on both 1 and 2 by including a more fleshed-out story AND interplanetary travel!
Unfortunaely for me I couldnt get into the prime games...I always felt samus should be fast agile etc. but in 1st person shes slow clunky and it just bothers me too much to care to play prime anymore...
I consider Prime 2 to be better than 1. It's more challenging, the world is more interconnected, the dark atmosphere is terrifying and feels like the best atmosphere a Metroid game has ever provided and the music is impeccable. The combat is also way better with much more interesting puzzle solving. Really underrated gem of a game
Metroid Prime (and now it's remaster) is the king to me, personally. Super Metroid is a close second, but the wonder that I experienced from Prime back and 2002, and am now re-experiencing again today is just untouchable.
I tend to agree. Not the Super part, that's much lower for me. And, being older, I can say that Prime is the only one that's come close to the original as far as that feeling of wonder
@@bencook130 I also rate Super lower and I actually quite enjoyed Other M, I finished it in one sitting and it is in my top 3. I haven't played every Metroid game though but some of them aged quite badly its so hard to go back and get the same feel from it.
1: Metroid Prime 2 Echoes 2: Metroid Prime 3: Metroid Dread 4 Metroid Prime 3 Corruption 5: Super Metroid Those are my absolute favorites in the series. I played Super later in life but was introduced to the GameCube version first. All it took was a demo gameplay at a toy r us and the rest is history lol. The Quadra-axis from Prime 2 is still my favorite boss fight. A 3 part boss fight with no shelter from the environment and so on was just chefs kiss
Ugh why the story mode gotta be so lame tho with a bunch of AWFUL jumping rooms in Celestial Archives and confusing ass portal warp puzzles also fck the Voldrums and Psycho Bits and Guardia s and repetitive bosses SLEEEENCH CURSE YOU and the the story is mid and the pacing is terrible and there's TOO...MANY...DAMN...ARTIFACTS
I looooooooooove the Metroid series!!! Personally, I rather like Prime 2 Echoes and Prime 3 Corruption-they are, IMO, quite underrated! And-again IMO-the things that make Other M different from the other Metroid games is what makes it neat! BTW, I hope that the other two Prime games get the Switch remaster treatment-wouldn’t it be awesome to have access to the entire trilogy on Switch? Also, I really want to see Zero Mission in the GBA lineup for NSO+EP!
I haven't played every metroid but I'm gonna rank the games I did play. Worst to best Metroid Metroid 2 return of samus Metroid zero mission Super metroid Metroid fusion Metroid dread (it might be the best game of all time IMO) I'll return after I've played the other games
1. Prime 2. Super 3. Dread 4. Prime 2: Echoes 5. Zero Mission 6. Fusion 7. Prime 3: Corruption 8. Samus Returns 9. Federation Force 10. Prime Hunters 11. Prime Pinball 12. Metroid 2 13. Metroid 1 100. other m
Metroid prime 2 echoes was the hardest game i ever beat, "I'm a SoulsLike fan BTW", but its difficult isn't about fight enemys or bosses, the hardest thing in this game is to know where should you go next, the most part of the time you will be lost, thats a common thing on metroid games but its get worse on Prime echoes because of the dark world, sometimes you need to cross the dark world through portals to reach an objective in the light world and the portals are tricky, some need special things to be activated or its only functional in one of the two worlds, its a very challenging game.
12. Other M 11. Prime Hunters 10. Metroid II 9. Metroid 8. Prime 3 7. Prime 2 6. Fusion 5. Dread 4. Samus Returns 3. Zero Mission 2. Super Metroid 1. Prime
I don't care about plots or cutscenes or talking in video games whatsoever. That's what movies and books are for. And that's one of the biggest reasons that Metroid Prime is still my favorite game of all time afterallthese years. There's no way Super Metroid is better than Metroid Prime.
Both games have like no cutscenes though lol except the prologue and the escape of the ceres station/frigate orpheon. Prime actually has more in-game cutscenes compared to Super so that's a weird comparison to make 😂
My List: Echoes Prime 1 and Corruption are tied for 2nd place Dread Fusion Samus Returns (AND AM2R) Zero Mission Super Metroid Other M Hunters Pinball Federation Force NES Metroid 1 GBA Metroid 2
My personal ranking 12. Metroid II: Return of Samus 11. Metroid 10. Metroid Prime Hunters 9. Metroid Other M 8. Metroid: Samus Returns 7. Metroid Zero Mission 6. Metroid Fusion 5. Metroid Dread 4. Metroid Prime 3 Corruption 3. Metroid Prime 2 Echoes 2. Super Metroid 1. Metroid Prime
One of My Most Favorite Metroid Games of Nintendo Throughout the Years are: Metroid Other M Metroid Prime Hunters Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Metroid: Zero Mission Metroid: Samus Returns Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Metroid Fusion Metroid Dread Metroid Prime Super Metroid These are My Most Favorite Metroid Games of Nintendo Throughout the Years I Absolutely Love Playing from my Childhood
I remember playing Metroid Prime Hunters on DS back in middle school when the DS was first released. Me and all my friends would sit in the gym and just play multiplayer the whole time. Great memories!
5- Dread 4- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption(I think it's the 4th but to my personal taste is my 2nd, I truly love this game!!) 3- Super Metroid 2- Metroid Prime 1- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes(this one is fucki'n underrated so badly! It's the BEST Metroidvania ever!)
1. Prime 2 2. Dread 3. Prime 4. Zero Mission 5. AM2R 6. Super 7. Samus Returns 8. Prime 3 9. Fusion 10. Metroid 2 11. Prime Hunters 12. Prime Pinball 13. Metroid 14. Other M Haven't played: Fed Force. I feel like both Prime 1 and Super Metroid have some of their flaws glossed over due to their legacies. Both are great games, but they've each been improved on IMO.
My ranking: 1. Metroid Prime 2. Super Metroid 3. Echoes 4. Fusion 5. Corruption 6. Dread 7. Zero Mission 8. Samus Returns 9. Return of Samus 10. Metroid 11. Other M 12. Hunters 13. Federation Force I haven't played Pinball and I haven't completed Other M, so the ranking could change. It always does anyway.
Echoes and corruption definitely aren’t getting the love they deserve. He didn’t mention anything good about echoes just the ammo systems flaws .smh. This list is very debatable
Metroid fusion was a game I only played after getting it for free through the 3DS ambassador program, and boy did I love it in spite of how challenging it could be at times!
I understand all the mythology and legacy behind Super Metroid, but for me Metroid Prime is still the best the series has to offer. The new remake just puts the Prime franchise back into business, and I can’t wait to see the fourth entry
The series is not underrated. It is, however, often overlooked. Two different things. The series overall is rated very, very highly. The awareness of the game is however low. That doesn’t affect the fact that those people who are aware of the games almost all rave about them. Like me. They’re amazing.
Those last three could seriously go either way, depending on who you’re talking to. I also would’ve put 2 and the original higher myself but this is a legit solid list.
Honestly I'd say 7 Metroid games are very interchangeable - Super, Fusion, Dread, ZM, Prime 1, 2 and 3. Depending on anyone the top 7 can vary a lot. Hell add SR into it as well, a lot of people like it.
No, I would put Metroid II over I. You can crouch, aim downwards, the maps are less copy and paste repetitive and the different Metroid forms do amount to more unique types of fights versus the mere three bosses of the first game. Also, actual save points.
Prime 3 and Samus Returns should switch spots. Prime 2 and 3 improved on the first in terms of story and environmental design. I'd go as far as saying that Prime 3 has some of the best environmental designs in any Nintendo game. Bryyo and Elysia had a really nice aesthetic. I think Dread was really good and refined 2D Metroid a great deal, but I think its environments and OST are forgettable. I don't think it had as strong a sense of Dread as Fusion or Prime 2. The EMMIs only being a threat in specific areas removed some of the tension for me since you never had to worry about them popping up in regular areas, like you did the SA-X and Dark Samus. I also think that Dread didn't do enough with Raven Beak as a character. You meet him once at the beginning and don't see him again until the end when he gives you a plot dump, and then you kill him. I was hoping they'd make him a rival on par with Dark Samus or Ridley, but since they've killed him off after one title that seems to be off the table. Dread also didn't explain the fallout from Fusion very well. It was odd to see Samus still working for the Federation after the events of Fusion. At the very least, the game could have touched on how the Feds addressed the rogue groups within their ranks. There are some interesting story implications in Dread that they can continue with in future titles, though.
People always bring up how the EMMI's aren't a threat because you only encounter them in certain areas but praise SA-X and Dark Samus but fail to realize that them "popping up" is a scripted part of the game. Just admit your opinion is based on the voice of the Internet and you have no opinion of your own.
@@theclaudfather6436 We know the SA-X and Dark Samus are scripted. The point is that, on a first playthrough, the player doesn't know when these enemies will pop up. In Dread, however, this isn't the case. In Dread, you always know beforehand where the EMMIs can appear.
I was expecting Prime to be at the top... But to see Super Metroid take the #1 spot because of it being the staple that every other game in the series is built upon? And it's style being the inspiration for countless metroidvania titles outside of the franchise? You know what, yeah. The team thought hard about this, and this wasn't just a great take - It was a smart take. Good list.
Super Metroid doesn't control flawlessly, there are some things that were handled better in the GBA games. Like the quick selection of missiles, not having the run button, easier wall jumping (the wall jumping in the SNES game is a little unreliable) and not having to use five missiles to open a red door. But there are hacks that fixes these things, making the game even better.
From best to worst. First few places are mostly the same though. Metroid Prime 3 Metroid Prime 2 Metroid Dread Metroid Prime 1 Metroid Fusion Super Metroid Metroid Zero Mission Metroid Samus Returns Metroid Metroid Other M Metroid II: Return of Samus
All the Metroid games are good, except the one which will not be named, the real answer is whichever you prefer to play. For me, that's Super Metroid, for a lot of others that will be Prime, Zero Mission, Prime Echoes, Dread.
Whoop de doo, another retro top 10 list where the SotNs, the FF Tactics, the Super Metroids and OoTs take the no. 1 yet again. I'm glad Mario rankings exist. Those actually change up a bit from list to list.
The only right order 13. Metroid Prime: Pinball (I mean its a pinball game) 12. Metroid Prime: Hunters (MP was fun but overall ass mechanics) 11. Metroid (Classic but hard to play) 10. Metroid II: Return Of Samus (Slightly better than classic NES) 9. Metroid: Other M (Solid game with good mechanics but ass story) 8. Metroid Zero Mission (Great and a flawless remake but too short) 7. Metroid: Samus Returns (Amazing and a great remake) 6. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Amazing with a flawless story but you can cheese it with hyper mode) 5. Metroid Fusion (Amazing and iconic) 4. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Flawless story and gameplay just amazing) 3. Metroid Dread (Perfection) 2. Super Metroid (The best 2D Metroid and just a perfect game) 1. Metroid Prime (The best Metroid game of all time is iconic, amazing, flawless, perfect just holy shit what a game)
prime 1 is good at atmosphere, but it’s not really what i like about metroid in metroid, i play the games for the combat, the speedrunning capabilities, the bosses, and the sequence breaking. prime 1 only has some of these to an extent, and with the bosses and combat, they’re not really done well at all now granted, the sequels are relatively similar in terms of structure and feel, but because those don’t try to just be 3D super metroid, they don’t suffer as much from it this is why i could never put the game in my top 5, it’s really good at what it tries to do, but it only tries to do the aspects of metroid that i don’t care as much about
Metroid Prime was my first game in the Metroid series. i was blown away by the graphics and the detail of the world. exploration felt intuitive and the combat was fun but still difficult. probably one of my top 3 favorite games i've ever played.
Now both of them are in Activision's hands and Microsoft's too but Microsoft is trying to get the acquisition completed but Sony is trying to sabotage it which I don't like as I'm a PlayStation person here.
Honest the only changes I'd make, are: 3rd: Super Metroid 2nd: Metroid Dread 1st: Metroid Prime For one reason. As great as Super Metroid is, and it is fucking fantastic, at times it borders on obnoxious when it comes to progressing/exploring. But that might just be me. Otherwise, pretty spot on list.
Metroid Dread is not only the best Metroid game but may be the best Nintendo game ever made. You having it 3rd should be illegal. 2D makes it a much better game.
Perfect list! considering in what era the game was released (sickly ahead of it's time) and how it aged, super metroid might be the best game ever made. A link to the past is the only compeditor... a tough one though.
Those two are at the top of my list, but I would include another game as well: Ocarina of Time. Those 3 games, in my opinion, are the closest to perfect games there ever can be.
For me 1 to 5 are: Super, Prime, Echoes, Dread, Zero Mission. Echoes is my personal favorite but Super and Prime gain points for being so dang groundbreaking. Dread is near perfect but loses points for some really poor writing choices imo. Zero Mission remains a beautiful and accessible 2D-art title even as it begins to show its age.
Really good list. Never understood all the hate for Other M. It plays really well and has a pretty good story. Especially the connection between her and Adam..
nailed the top 3 tbh, although i would be tempted to put prime 2 echoes in the number 3 spot. Prime 2 imo could be better that prime 1 its soo damn good, but i do understand why people love prime 1 more. It's just a simpler version of prime, and it uses all of the classic biomes from super metroid which are hard to argue with, same with why ocarina of time is so great. it's alot easier for people to get a grasp of and feel a stronger connection to using the four elements. Snow, fire, forest and desert, then phazon mines, as opposed to echoes light and dark worlds across the temple grounds, bog and sky temple. But i love the power ups and bosses in prime 2 and the mechanics with the light and dark beams. great to have the screw attack back and wall jumps, and dark samus is a great villain. also the maps are across a much larger scale and i love the morphball canons across the map.
I dont think anything will ever top super metroid...I still remember playing it as a teen and thinking wow this is the pinnacle of gaming...And yep I was right. Literally only game that ever game me goosebumps from beg to the very end...
@@starchild4627The only way I can see MP4 topping Super is if the game turns out to be the Ocarina of Time of the Metroid series (in terms of the impact and innovation)
My list would be pretty different and no doubt some would take issue with it. 1. Zero Mission 2. Corruption 3. Fusion 4. Prime 5. Echoes 6. Dread 7. Super 7. Samus Returns 8. Other M 9. Metroid 10. Hunters 11. Metroid 2 Super is great don't get me wrong but personally I never liked how floaty Samus feels, and things like the wall jump and overall movement feel a little clunky. It's still the best sprite based Metroid though easily, game is gorgeous Dread is in a weird spot for me. Game feels...incomplete but not like Pokemon did. Everything works but the ending is really abrupt, there's strange blank areas on the map and doors that go nowhere. Supposedly the development of the game was troubled and they had more in store but ran out of time and it certainly feels that way at times. Movement feels phenomenal in Dread but I really don't like the speed booster and invisibility being mapped to pressing down on the joystick. Speed booster especially feels really awkward and I wish it was automatic like ZM/Fusion. I liked the story but I honestly didn't like Samus' characterization that much. Sure she was cool but she didn't feel like Fusion Samus at all which was jarring since Dread is a direct sequel
When I first started playing Metroid, I first assumed that Samus was a male. But after beating the first Metroid game, the bounty hunter is actually a strong female. And that's why I enjoy the Metroid series so much.

The fact that Metroid Prime 1 was released in 2002 just baffles me, it still plays soo well in 2023! My favorite game of all time
I’m playing it now as well and it holds up unbelievably well. Still better than many games made today.
Easily a top 5 all time game, played it at only 10 years old in 2002 and still incredible today, could've been a Wii launch title and graphics were unreal for an early 2000s game

Echoes is my favorite Metroid game :)
Metroid fusion will always be my favourite mainly because of the scary moments such as SA-X
I am a casual nintendo fan. Meaning I have another main playing system. When I saw fusion was coming to NSO I immediately signed up.
Hopefully Nintendo understands why they are suddenly selling Metroid Prime and NSO SUBS.
Can’t wait for fusion to release on NSO!!
Yeah me too
Fusion is in my top 3, but the SA-X loses a lot of that scare factor on a second playthrough once you realise it’s all scripted. The EMMI’s of Dread are a better, more lasting implementation of the SA-X concept imo.
In the beginning recap cutscene in Dread, the look of SA-X was definitely more menacing to me
Super Metroid isn’t just the definitive Metroid game, it’s likely the most refined side-scrolling platformer ever made.
While agreeing to all of this, I couldn’t help but chuckle when hearing “still controls flawlessly today”…
I bought a snes and and nice old tv just to play it on the real deal
I have the same love you have for that game, but I have to admit, the most recent one is more smooth in terms of control. Tho, it remains my favorite, for the ambiance, the musics, the subtle way to inteoduce scenario without a word... It's a game that inspire love, a deep love, the love that keep creating so many metroidvanias games, because no other than this one embodies this better.
Based@@toninhopavan2
Not the most refined ever made, but definitely the one that held the title for the longest time.
Picking the top 3 is fairly easy. The hard part is putting them in order from 1-3 - there's so much room for debate. They are all incredible games.
Agreed.
Dread, without question anymore. Super has aged the worst.
Except for putting an ammo consumption for the Dark & Light Beams, that was so unnecessary
STILL waiting for Prime 4. You know, the one they announced 6 YEARS AGO!
@@KemoKidd don't worry. It'll arrive along with hollow knight silk song and elder scrolls VI next February 30th
The prime games suck to replay, though. The movement is slow and clunky, and you have to switch beams every two seconds to open beam doors. There’s also not many sequence breaks, and the general item order is very linear.
My Personal Top 5 list
1. Metroid Fusion
2. Metroid Dread
3. Super Metroid
4. Metroid Prime 2
5. Metroid Prime
It’s insanely hard to rank a franchise that consists 80% of insanely well done games.
Uhh Super above Prime haha cute but no
@@fury_saves_world
they’re about equal in my eyes but i personally prefer super because prime’s item collection is very back and forth feeling and annoying.
Prime 2 masterfully solved that issue
I have like played Prime 1 like 40 times in my life.
Fusion is on top due to a bias, but as for Dread, Prime, Prime 2, Super it’s based on personal fun and replayability
That being said. The remaster rocks, but then again prime rocks overall. Like I said it’s incredibly difficult to rate a series which consistently pumps out 88-97 games
I would've switched Samus Returns with Zero Mission, but it's incredible how high the bar is in this series where almost every mainline game is really good.
Ew ZM is superior
@@fury_saves_world based
@@fury_saves_world That's literally what the dude is saying. Samus Returns is listed higher than ZW on this list.
I personally did not like Samus Returns AT. ALL. Couldn't believe how good Dread turned out, considering it's from the same team.
@@travistotle o fuc, lul, my memory is trash but right on, then. Yeah fuck them running Gamma Metroids, deep and hard-AYO?🤨
But ya lmao I was shocked abt that too, they do like to re-use the shit out of bosses in both but Dread was just so much better.
Yes, I agree, and even higher, Zero Mission is really good (I even like it more than Fusion)
My personal List from the games I’ve played:
10 Metroid: has anyone that I played this game in the past 20 years really enjoyed it?
9 Other M: A decent action game that makes a lot of stupid story decisions.
8 Zero Mission: why do some people like this game so much? It’s 10x better than the original and is an amazing remake but as a Metroid game it’s just so average
7 Samus Returns: 95% of the hate this game gets has nothing to do with the actual game. A great stepping stone for Dread and is very fun to play
6 Super Metroid: I’m sorry if this placement physically hurts you and I acknowledge that Super Metroid is a feat of level design genius but it’s just not that much fun and unintuitive
5 Corruption: Even the prime games at their worst are still amazing. The motion controls are tacky but the bosses and levels are fantastic
4 Fusion: weak level design and exploration is made up for by being atmospheric, hard, and very fun to play in an arcadey sort of way
3 Echoes: I’m convinced you have to play this game 2-3 times before the frustration goes away and you see it for the most bold and interesting game in the series
2 Dread: it’s just peak 2D Metroid and is nearly flawless
1 Prime: it’s perfect. Just go play the remaster right now
I put Other M over the original, its hard to played it today.
Its only Metroid prime 2 i haven’t played yet
Solid list
I honestly found Super Metroid really confusing without a guide, but I didn't have any issues in Dread.
Overall tho, Other than Super Metroid being so low, I actually think your ranking is SOLID AF, Prime is my favorite game of all time, So I absolutely agree with it being #1, I would have
1. Prime 10/10
2. Echoes 10/10
3. Super Metroid 10/10
4. Dread 9.5/10
5. Corruption 9/10
6. Fusion 8.5/10
7. Zero Mission 8.5/10
8. Samus Returns 8/10
9. Other M 7/10
10. Metroid 6.5/10
Also, Even tho it's not really comparable with the others, Metroid Prime: Pinball is surprisingly VERY fun lol, Just played it for the first time this year and for what it is, I think it's a solid 8/10.
Have you played Dread? It is seriously a masterpiece
I'm the same way, I think they got better too, with each sequel.
Prime 2 and 3 had more creative environments. Corruption should at least be above the Samus Returns remake.
While I think Prime 1 is the best of the Prime series, I have more fun playing Prime 3. I replayed that game so many times.
Ah the original metroid, quite the shock when you had beaten the game and it was revealed you had played as Jennifer Lawrence the whole time.

Metroid prime 2 echoes was the hardest game i ever beat, "I'm a SoulsLike fan BTW", but its difficult isn't about fight enemys or bosses, the hardest thing in this game is to know where should you go next, the most part of the time you will be lost, thats a common thing on metroid games but its get worse on Prime echoes because of the dark world, sometimes you need to cross the dark world through portals to reach an objective in the light world and the portals are tricky, some need special things to be activated or its only functional in one of the two worlds, its a very challenging game.

one of the biggest reasons that Metroid Prime is still my favorite game of all time afterallthese years. There's no way Super Metroid is better than Metroid Prime.
Both games have like no cutscenes though lol except the prologue and the escape of the ceres station/frigate orpheon. Prime actually has more in-game cutscenes compared to Super so that's a weird comparison to make 😂

- Metroid Prime
- Super Metroid
- Prime 3
- Metroid Dread
- Samus Returns
- Metroid Fusion
- Metroid Zero Mission
- Prime 2: Echoes
Those last three could seriously go either way, depending on who you’re talking to. I also would’ve put 2 and the original higher myself but this is a legit solid list.
Last 4 you mean. Fusion is fantastic in it's own right.
Super and Prime are blinding people with nostalgia. Dread is #1, Prime #2 and Super #3
Please continue to number each entry like here love when you guys do that!!!
Good list.
Metroid Other M was a fun and underrated game in my opinion, But the story is a mess.
3:40 you smokin’ crack, boi.
That is just your opinion!
I am a metroid fan since super but my fav. Is prime 2 100 %
Metroid Prime 3
Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Dread
Metroid Prime 1
Metroid Fusion
Super Metroid
Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Samus Returns

Metroid II: Return of Samus
All the Metroid games are good, except the one which will not be named, the real answer is whichever you prefer to play. For me, that's Super Metroid, for a lot of others that will be Prime, Zero Mission, Prime Echoes, Dread.
Whoop de doo, another retro top 10 list where the SotNs, the FF Tactics, the Super Metroids and OoTs take the no. 1 yet again. I'm glad Mario rankings exist. Those actually change up a bit from list to list.

prime 1 only has some of these to an extent, and with the bosses and combat, they’re not really done well at all
now granted, the sequels are relatively similar in terms of structure and feel, but because those don’t try to just be 3D super metroid, they don’t suffer as much from it
this is why i could never put the game in my top 5, it’s really good at what it tries to do, but it only tries to do the aspects of metroid that i don’t care as much about
My personal top 5. 1. Metroid Prime. 2. Super Metroid. 3. Metroid Zero Mission. 4. Metroid Dread. 5. Metroid Prime 2
Samus Returns marked the franchise’s return, Super Metroid may be superb, but I found Metroid Prime to be a prime example of good game design.
I like playing Metroid Prime with the old school controls. At first it can be odd, but they whole game was built with those controls in mind
Metroid Prime was my first game in the Metroid series. i was blown away by the graphics and the detail of the world. exploration felt intuitive and the combat was fun but still difficult. probably one of my top 3 favorite games i've ever played.
Spyro VS Crash! Battle of Sony's Two Mascots!
Now both of them are in Activision's hands and Microsoft's too but Microsoft is trying to get the acquisition completed but Sony is trying to sabotage it which I don't like as I'm a PlayStation person here.
Honest the only changes I'd make, are:
3rd: Super Metroid
2nd: Metroid Dread
1st: Metroid Prime
For one reason. As great as Super Metroid is, and it is fucking fantastic, at times it borders on obnoxious when it comes to progressing/exploring. But that might just be me. Otherwise, pretty spot on list.
I would place Echoes over Prime 1 personally. I kinda prefer it to the original. Now all I need is for it to also be remade like prime 1.
No Nintendo franchise will ever have scarier monsters than Metroid.

Metroid Dread is not only the best Metroid game but may be the best Nintendo game ever made. You having it 3rd should be illegal. 2D makes it a much better game.
Me personally I would swap prime with super but I agree with this list overall and I completely understand super metroid being 1st
Even today, 25 years after playing Super Metroid (SNES), I remember this game as one of the best video games I ever played. Very intense atmosphere.
That’s a huge spoiler in the end 🤣
I like more the top 10 they made long ago, in My opinion:
5 Prime 2
4 Dread
3 Prime 3
2 Super
1 Prime
Super Metroid GOAT
Really good list. Never understood all the hate for Other M. It plays really well and has a pretty good story. Especially the connection between her and Adam..
This is actually a really good list 👍
Metroid Prime 1 was so ahead of it's time.
I personally have echoes over prime 1 and fusion over super but still all really awesome!
Even after that Metroid dread is still arguably the best Metroid game by a landslide
nailed the top 3 tbh, although i would be tempted to put prime 2 echoes in the number 3 spot.
Metroid Prime 4 will prob top it
@@starchild4627The only way I can see MP4 topping Super is if the game turns out to be the Ocarina of Time of the Metroid series (in terms of the impact and innovation)
My list would be pretty different and no doubt some would take issue with it.
1. Zero Mission
2. Corruption
3. Fusion
4. Prime
5. Echoes
6. Dread
7. Super
7. Samus Returns
8. Other M
9. Metroid
10. Hunters
11. Metroid 2
Super is great don't get me wrong but personally I never liked how floaty Samus feels, and things like the wall jump and overall movement feel a little clunky. It's still the best sprite based Metroid though easily, game is gorgeous
Dread is in a weird spot for me.
Great list! I think I might agree with it 100%. It would have been worth mentioning the new "Remaster" of Metroid Prime, though.
I’m so thankful we got the Prime Remastered, now I just new Super Metroid remastered with Dread’s controls.
I cant wait for my curiosity at how bad this ranking will be to destroy my recommends feed for a week.
My top 3 is: Super Metroid - Metroid Dread - Metroid Fusion
Actually a really good list! Coming from an old time fan of the franchise
