- In response to a request from a viewer, here's my take on how to do a Purdie Shuffle. It's one of those "must know" grooves and while it's quite simple to grasp it can take some time to get it sounding good. I'm still working on it.
You can hear the Purdie Shuffle played on Steely Dan's Home At Last played by the man himself as well as the Dan's Babylon Sisters. Another great example is Jeff Porcaro's version on Toto's Rosanna.

One of the best breakdowns regarding this I've seen.
Thanks Todd, I really appreciate it. Let me know how it goes 😁
Finally a count I understand. Now I can really work on it . Thank you for taking the time to teach .
Brilliant. I'm glad you found it helpful 😁
Thanks Joe! Excellent. I like the way you teach.
Thanks so much, let me know how you get on 😁
Great stuff Joe, just what the doctor ordered as the saying goes, if your ever in Cornwall Eden project area I’ll definitely buy you a Beer 🍻 thanks for the lesson 👍😁
Glad you like it. I hope it gave some useful insights. I'll look forward to that beer 😁
@@Joethedrummer having played through I’ve noticed that I’ve previously been including the ghost note straight after the back beat on three by omitting that I feel it’s starting to get there, thanks again 😁🍻👍
Ah. I seem to have forgotten to mention that I omitted that part of it in purpose. It's often good to work on simpler versions of things and then add more details once the simpler thing sort of beds in a bit. I am going to do a follow up or two where I address this and other additional options. If you're eager to go forward already, the next step would be to work on the Hihat plus bass options the same but to play only the backbeat ghostnote and not the others. The. Bring in the one preceding the backbeat again... (But don't tell anyone or it will spoil the surprise 😂)
@@Joethedrummer Dont worry I promise not to 🤣 , im also try to get a good seesaw action going on the hats where the 1234 fall on the shoulder of the stick and the (a) on the tip keep having to slow it down im terrible for trying to learn to fast looking forward to part 2 😃👍
@@mixinkperranporth I'm going to wildly guess that maybe play all tip of stick until you're really happy with the pattern like that and then add the seesaw. I will address that and open hihats too. Hopefully will do something with it next week. Meanwhile, check out the Paradiddle groove exercises recently posted which has mechanical stuff that will enhance this too 😁
